To the last part, in regards to the game, this is terrible news IMO. Honestly, of recent memory, what teams haven't played above their pay grade the week after an interim is named coach? The AD's are smart about who they appoint, and it's the coaches that boost morale since when you lose your coach the year is about to go in the dumpster. I expect them to ball out.
I would be worried about them rallying around this, but your coach being an alcoholic isnt that noble of a cause.
And you clearly don't see my point. I'm not talking about ability/disability to stop. I'm saying when you know if you do it it's going to cost you (which Sark was told), I imagine the thought process is different than when the person thinks the next time is 'no big deal' because they've done what they're about to do 100s of times. You're not warned when you next get in the vehicle that this will be that time. If people who did drink and drive knew that, they probably wouldn't have drove that night. Sark decided to drive knowing he'd get it this time. And he couldn't stop, which is what's surprising to me. This is all about the difference of knowing your consequence is imminent, and thinking you can get away with it like any other time. I don't know how I can make my distinction more clear.
Obviously this proves how strong alcohol addiction can be. I'm just surprised by it.
Koon isn't talking about him drinking or not drinking. He's talking about drinking and keeping his job.Koon - you're not seeing the point that several others are making that nullifies your point.

The distinctive feature of Sark's case being it was a known issue in a very high-profile public position.High functioning alcoholics all have great jobs.... until they don't because they are drunks who can't stop drinking.
Looking like another bad hire for Haden
@InsideUSC: #USC center Max Tuerk sidelined rest of season with knee injury. DL Claude Pelon was on mobility scooter today, doubtful for Notre Dame

A high-functioning alcoholic (HFA) is an alcoholic who is able to maintain their outside life such as jobs, academics, relationships, etc. – all while drinking alcoholically.[1]
Many HFAs are not viewed by society as alcoholics because they do not fit the common alcoholic stereotype. Unlike the stereotypical alcoholic, HFAs have either succeeded or over-achieved through their lifetimes. This can lead to denial of alcoholism by the HFA, co-workers, family members, and friends. Functional alcoholics account for 19.5 percent of total U.S. alcoholics, with 50 percent being smokers and 33 percent having a multigenerational family history of alcoholism.[3]
To function is to be capable of carrying out a specific action or activity, to operate or to work. High-functioning alcoholics, then, are those people who are able to convincingly go through their prescribed roles and carry out their duties – yet who continues to drink alcohol. They are able to maintain relationships with family, friends and colleagues, keep up with their job and home. In essence, they lead a double life: they are outwardly the successful, capable husband, wife, sibling, child or other relative, friend, or coworker, while inside they are alcoholics.
None of that applies to a public figure. The defining characteristic of a Highly Functioning Alcoholic IS......
SOOOOOO... Yes HFA's are ABLE to perform their duties. Also ...
Another defining characteristic of an HFA is that they basically lead a double life:
The fact it was a known issue is less relevant because HFAs are ABLE to to their duties.... until they are not. What point that occurs at and whether they get help is separate to their acknowledgment that they are in fact an alcoholic.

Was peebody a starter?
WR #7 also went out and didn't return
USC Trojans @USC_Athletics
USC C Max Tuerk (knee) is out for the season. DE Claude Pelon (knee) is doubtful for ND, while WR Steven Mitchell (ankle) is questionable.

Honestly what the hell are you talking about? Nobody said shit about Sark not being an alcoholic. Of course he is. The ONLY point we've been making is that his alcoholism doesn't exempt him from the consequences of his actions, particularly when 1) his problems were known when he took his position, 2) he's a public figure whose actions reflect on the program and the University.Goddamn this pisses me off. The ease with which you can just claim something as retarded as this is amazing.
It can apply to anyone. HFAs TEND to be very successful and motivated people and do have very public lives.
Oh, and since it's THE week....FUSC!
I hope Sark gets help and has a successful recovery. I think it's safe to assume that Sark will never coach at southern cal again. I know Trojan fans want Chip Kelly, but anyone speculating about who will likely be their next coach? Just curious what others may be thinking.

No shit. The whole discussion between koon and I was his inability to understand the definition of an addiction and how an addict can still not only be offered a job, but take the job and perform it despite being an addict yet knowingly take the job despite being an addict. Koon can't understand how an alcoholic has an addiction and how one could hold a job while being an alcoholic. So the discussion was not about him accepting his punishment. That is a forgone conclusion when you cannot do your job. That was it. And that applies to anyone public figures included.
I hope he gets all the help he needs, but I'm happy that his rock bottom coincided with ND week.
