Five dead, including gunman, in Tennessee military facilities shootings | Reuters

Five people were killed on Thursday including a suspected gunman who opened fire at two military-related facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee in an attack local officials described as an act of terrorism.

"We are treating this as an act of domestic terrorism," said Bill Killian, a U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee.

Witnesses and local media reports said the gunman, driving an open-top Ford Mustang, fired at two locations including a military recruiting center and a U.S. Navy Reserve center about six miles (10 km) apart. Witnesses said they heard scores of shots.

Horrible, I just don't get the point of firing randomly at innocent people. I hope they find out what the guys grievance was.

It wasn't random. The shooter targeted two military related facilities, an enlistment office and a Navy/Marine Reserve Center.

4 Marines dead in shooting attack at Tennessee Navy facility | Fox News

Four Marines were killed Thursday at a Chattanooga, Tenn., Navy training center, in what authorities called a possible "act of domestic terrorism" that consisted of two attacks carried out by a lone gunman at military facilities just seven miles apart, officials said.

The unidentified gunman shot up a recruiting center before driving to the Navy Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center and killing four Marines before he was shot, authorities said.

Definitely seems like domestic terrorism. 24 year old guy originally from Kuwait. FBI all over his house. Two women taken into custody from home.

I must have missed all of the state houses that were flying the star and crescent flags.

Your cause went well beyond statehouses, did it not? The star and crescent flag is sold on Amazon and Ebay. Schools are named after Malcolm X. Maybe that should stop?

Don't count on it, though. It all comes down to who, whom.

Nope. Those were business decisions Amazon and eBay made, no credible person ever called for a "ban" of any flag.

Also, prayers out to the Marines and their families. RIP.

Which cause is that? Citizens can own the confederate flag. Amazon and eBay are businesses who decided to stop selling a product. That's not the same as flying a flag on a government building.

I'm going to bow out of the thread now. Peace to the families of the victims.

You never miss an opportunity to empty your bladder. Your compassion for the victims and their families is duly noted.

Shooter was a U.S.citizen.

So what? The SC shooter was, too.

I would have thought some things go without saying. Politics was not off-limits on the Charleston thread- I guess it depends which politics they are?

Get over it, it is a stupid flag that ironically will be protested by white supremacist and KKK in SC this weekend. Glad your symbol aligns with that of hate groups. Fuckin embarrassing. You should protest with them since you feel so adamant about the issue.

I am not a fan of this unadulterated bullshit right here. You truly are a deplorable poster. And by deplorable I mean "shockingly bad" and "deserving strong condemnation"

Each of your posts is more inflammatory than the last. You have no cogent arguments and your intent is clearly skewed to illiciting emotional responses in obviously sensitive subjects. Tone it down or you will be getting a break.

RIP to my Marine brothers.

And no, we had no intel on him. This is the exact kind of attack we have all feared and it won't stop. ISIL has been targeting lone wolves in the states and will continue to do so. That is their only way to attack in the states. Unfortunately, can't stop what you can't see.

Always be cognizant. Always have your head on a swivel.

That's what I always find scary about stuff like this. There is no way anyone could have had intel on this kid. He was a completely off the radar person. I was listening to some interviews on the way home yesterday and they talked to one of his high school friends, his wrestling coach and his MMA coach.

They spoke about how he was popular in high school, joked about his religion and was respectful to everyone. His parents were very non-violent, evidenced by them coming to one of his MMA events and pulling him out of it. Apparently it's against his faith to strike another in the face (which I had never heard) and they were appalled that he practiced MMA and hid it from them. The wrestling coach also was shocked that he would be a terrorist because his assistant coach, who worked with the kid daily for several years, was Jewish. They seemingly were great friends and the kid saw him as a mentor.

How did it turn so badly and so quickly?

That's the million dollar question. You just never know what is truly in someone's heart. We scoured databases and couldn't find a single mention of him. Do not be surprised though if it comes out that he had contact with ISIS via the internet. Not saying to expect it just don't be surprised. So many of these extremist websites and while we, as a nation, can have so many sources (you wouldn't believe how much we shell out), you can't track everyone. It really is scary.

I wish I could share the things that I come across. And I wish more people in power would simply be honest about things. This nuke deal? Ha.

Whether you find his ideas objectionable or not, could we avoid the ad hominem stuff?

Its not an ad hominem as he wasnt making an argument just typing out his verbal diarrhea. His posts are are beligerent, inflammatory, with little aim to have a reasonable duscussion. I have no problem calling a spade a spade. Most of his posts are disruptive and bring little to the discussions. Especially with ones above, considering that we have active/ retired military posters.

Its actually a pattern in several threads if you have been paying attention.
