It's an Allen Woody night tonight.
GOV'T MULE

Since I saw this post, I have been watching Gov't Mule videos for 2 days now.....cool stuff. The more I see, the more I want to see of this band.

takes almost 2 mins to get the song going, but I think this is really nice. love the drummer too...

Gov't Mule rocks. HARD.

Anywho...a bit tipsy here...but tonight...
Alamo and his drummer...we'll call him "Tom Henley", for he sings quite well...
played the following on the Jukebox.

1. The Band "Up On Cripple Creek"
2. The Allman Brothers "Blue Skies"
3. ZZ Top "Tush"
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd "All I Can Do Is Write About It"

Speaking of Duane:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Th3ycKQV_4k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This song never ceases to blow me away. It takes me back to the summer of '71. My first summer break at ND. I was with a few high school classmates (I think I might even have been driving) on a short road trip to check on their "weed patch" hidden in the Ocala National Forest. We played this over and over and over again. I believe that some smoldering herbage was involved.

The "farm" turned out to be three remaining sad, scrawny, sickly, sorry-ass plants they'd germinated from the seeds cleaned from a "lid."

There wasn't a dry eye among us --- we were laughing our asses off and heading home to more Layla!

Now that's a story!

Love that tune. The outro with Duane is one of my favorite slide leads ever.

Not my favorite Waits song at all, but one that most would be familiar with.

I always get this damned song stuck in my head.
So catchy.

For me tonight it's Tom Waits.

Damn you both Dalute and 'Mo!

Now I'm probly gonna spend a good chunk of my day rooting through Dead and Waits tunes.

The forecast calls for rain so I guess that it might not be a bad thing ...

I'll fade to grey (not quite ready for black, but one never knows) with this gem:

You liking the Dead is probably the most predictable thing ever, lol. If you're ever in Duluth, give me a message. I may go to the cities this fall for a UMD vs UMTC men's hockey game.

On that note, I present my all-time favorite Dead combination of songs written by others:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QTPndsG_KA4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It was, is and will remain my top head bobbing, body bouncing, foot stomping, sorry-ass air guitar playing and hippie whirligig "dancing" recording.

I'd always liked it, but when my wife filed for divorce the juxtaposition of the two songs took on a new level of meaning for me.

Mini Mansions are heavily influenced by The Beatles and Beach Boys. They even got Brian Wilson to join them in this song. They also had Alex Turner (Artic Monkeys lead singer) sing in another. Clearly they have connections, likely because their bassist is from Queens of the Stone Age.

It's a great album, New Wave + The Beatles' psychedelic sound.

And then of course new Tame Impala is here:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EyEB2AEqHxc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I saw Mini Mansions and Tame Impala last weekend in Columbus and will see them both in two weeks in Cincinnati. If their tour makes it near you, go to it.

I've got Townes Van Zandt's "Live and Obscure" album on.
I've named a guitar after him, so I think quite highly of his work.

A couple of my favorite selections:
