ND will have to rain 3s and play a virtually perfect game to beat Kentucky. There's no way we can compete with that much size inside offensively or defensively. But all it takes is an off game by Kentucky and a good game by us. Kentucky's not invincible, they played a decent amount of close games against mediocre SEC teams.

So proud of our team tonight! Great win! Gonna be a very very tough game against Kentucky on Saturday. Anything can happen. ..., and honestly if anyone can beat the Wildcats this year it would be Notre Dame.

I don't think that ND beats Kentucky. They have 6 guys at least 6'8". I think we have one in our rotation. That is a mismatch even if two of their starters have off games.

ND can bomb from the outside but Kentucky plays pretty good defense and they will absolutely rule the paint. ND will not get many offensive or defensive rebounds and I think that will be the difference in the game.

Just checked, they had back to back OT wins once, and beat just about everyone else by ~20ish...including Kansas who they beat by thirty... Lol

Probably true, but I've been saying for years that all I want from ND basketball is making the Sweet 16 more often than not and the occasional Elite 8 with a chance for a miracle. This season is a resounding success no matter what happens against Kentucky, and again, they're not invincible, they've almost lost to teams much worse than ND. So I'll be hoping for that miracle.

My God Kentucky is ENORMOUS.

ETA: I know nothing about basketball but I just read that the Kentucky starting five would be the tallest in the NBA!

Tall and slow. UK is intimidating and a hard matchup for everyone.. but I really like us in this 1. If this one keeps going this way. (WVU)

haha true, but their schedule wasn't all that bad. The OT games were against Ole Miss and Texas A&M (maybe they were just on strike because they didn't get their weekly paycheck), but they also only won by 7 against Florida, and only won by 2 against LSU. They obliterated Kansas, but Duke obliterated us by 30 too. I'm not expecting a win, but as far as miracles would go, this wouldn't be as ridiculous as some would have you believe.

Agree completely. This has been a Cinderella season of sorts for the team and I am ecstatic with the season they have had so far. It's been blast watching the in the tournament. I was in Vegas last week for a work conference, and getting drunk playing hookie watching the Irish with roaring and screaming gamblers all around me. That was a religious experience that I won't soon forget.

We have 2 in our top 7. Auguste is 6'10 and Beachem is 6'8. Torres is 6'7 and Geben and Burgette are 6'9. We have some size but nothing like Kentucky.

Just don't fall behind real early like WVU did...keep it close (i.e. within 10) and we will have a shot late.

My only disappoint with tonight was how quite the crowd was. It went both ways. Very little noise from either fan base. There was much more energy at the 2nd game

What portion of the fans were UK fans? I read on Twitter from a UK reporter than while UK fans were the largest group they were not a majority of all the fans (i.e. not as numerically dominant as many of us expected).

I didn't notice a ton until their game started and they got loud. There definitely weren't as many as I thought there would be. WVU had the 2nd most probably followed by ND.

There's gonna be a lot of blue in the stands in Cleveland, but let's hope we can pack the seats and make it look presentable.

Honestly, ND is gonna be pretty darn good in 2016 as well. They lose Pat and Grant, but get back Jackson, Vasturia, Auguste, Bonzie and guys like Beachem, Geben, etc. There's quite a bit of size in next year's squad and with Puh-fuglear on campus, they could have a pretty dynamic backcourt. I don't think it'll be another Elite 8 team (though very possible), but they're definitely a tourney-bound one.

There are enough ND fans in/around Cleveland, Columbus, Western PA, etc...plus people coming from South Bend...there should be a large ND contingent. If we could be 40% of the fans of the teams playing (because lots of people at these games aren't fans of either team) that would be a success.

Someone over at NDNation collected quotes from a Wichita St. fan board before, during and after the game:

Direct quotes from Shockernet.net:

Pre-game comments:
"ND won the ACC tourney, but I they played the #319(!) non-con SOS based on RPIForecast. Their single non-con loss was to Providence on a neutral by 1. ND was overrated all year."

"Not sure either Vasturia or Connaghton can really guard Baker or Cotton though."

"We just took Kenpom #12/NCAA RPI #3 out behind the woodshed yesterday for an old-fashioned whoop-ass. We have Kenpom #10/NCAA RPI #16 up next. We sit at #9/#17 (respectively). Totally a recipe for a blowout... "

Early in the game:

"Who is this team??"

"Whew! Not throwing in the towel. Still pumped from Sunday, but this is getting ugly."

"I like our shot selection though... but ouch."

"We are going to have to work to keep them under 100."

Early 2nd Half:

"They're within reach. We aren't going to shoot this bad in half 2. "

"Bad news. ND is good for sure. Good news. We got them where we want them now. We will win. Nuff said."

"Hey WORLD. Guess who came back. Guess who's ahead."

During NDs Explosive 2nd Half run:

"Goddammit! Guard the fucking arc!"

"ND hitting everything again. Looks like it's their run for a little bit here."

"Not to sound like a douche hat (aka CBB), but I'm starting to lose my warm and fuzzy..."

"Game of runs. Theirs need to stop. Ours needs to start."

"That has to be the Timeout of the Year for HCMB... "

"They are us! Tough as hell. "

"Gotta be shitting me with a 3 with one second on the clock. "

"Getting schooled at our game. Tough and smart."

Late 2nd Half:
"I can't even be upset. These ND guys are unbelievably talented. "
"Oh hell no. Me either. This is a heck of a team we are playing."

"Give credit to ND's D. They're playing the best D against the Shox I've seen this year. "

"Can't even complain about the officiating."

"Now we're just getting curb stomped."

"ND is shooting like 85% in the 2nd half. They're unconscious. No amount of defense can stop this. When the other team doesn't miss, you lose. Simple as that. "

"ND is scary good. Beating Duke twice and UNC twice is no small feat. I pray they shoot like this against Kentucky..."

"Tremendous play by ND. Best defense I've seen them play all year, combined with poor shooting on our part. And man their offense is fun when it clicks like this."

"Sometimes the only reaction is to shake your opponent's hand and congratulate them.

"When you get to this stage of the season, any team that nails its' A game is going to win and make their opponent look bad. Compared to ND, we look bad. "

"There's no shame in losing to ND. This is a far better team than I knew "

"Notre Dame would have beaten Kentucky tonight. Not even a question. "

"Man, how many times have they drilled a shot at the buzzer now, in the face of great defense?"

" ND looked like a real badass tonight. I'm alright with that if they do it vs UK as well.... no pressure "

"Congrats to ND. They played tremendous. Fun team and deserves the win. "

"The better team won. ND shoots 50 percent for the year and shot a little above that again. It's hard to beat teams that are so damn accurate."

"I'm pretty sure they could've beaten the Cavs tonight. "

"Between 16:41 and 4:36, Notre Dame went 15-17. 88%. Went from a one point deficit to a 19 point lead, and the game was over. That's ridiculous unguarded."

"All you can do is tip your cap at that point because the 85 Bears can't stop a team when they flip a switch like that. "

"ND played really well for about 30 minutes tonight. In fact, nearly perfect. If they play nearly perfect for 30-35 minutes every game the rest of the tournament, they won't lose. "

"Now I understand how ND defeated NC and Duke."

"I really think that ND beats us 7-8 times out of 10. Maybe more. Just a ridiculously well-oiled machine. The cliche fits them perfectly.

"That is the first team we've played in 4-5 years that I would pick to beat us over 70% of the time. I can't even think of the last team I would say that about off the top of my head. "

"Congrats to Notre Dame. They were outstanding tonight. I'll be rooting for the Irish the rest of the way."

Great fan base there.
