Forget every other WR in the country, this is the guy who embarrassed all of the heavyweights in SoCal... He will end up a 5 star because he is one. Keep your fingers crossed that he wants something different that the usual SC path. Hope ESB has a good rookie campaign, that wouldn't hurt.

I saw Centennial play 3 times last year, this kid is legit. The games I went to, Centennial platooned 2 qb's and it didnt matter who was throwing the ball, this kid was all over the field - and Centennial plays against top schools in CA (and Bishop Gorman). Sometimes a highlight video misrepresents a player but whats in this thread video is spot on.

as an aside:

1 of the games I went to was against Junipero Serra HS, they had a DL kid (Oluwole Betiku #47) that looked like a man amongst boys. (played with a cast)

http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/2016-recruiting-profiles/229682-16-ca-de-oluwole-betiku-offer.html

Centenniel beat Serra in that game, 68-66 (or close to it).

Wow, that's a big deal. According to Wiltfong, he's targeting the weekend of April 25-26 for a visit. Wiltfong believes he is very open to leaving the west coast for college.

Edit: USC was his favorite school growing up, so we shall see, we shall see. I'll take a trade of Hayes for McKinley, though.

That was me standing in front of you in the concession line waiting on some popcorn! That wasn't the best game I saw this year but it was the craziest.

WOW x 1000! It's hard to argue with a Wiltfong CB I like his track record.

BUT

The SoCal Fox Sports 2014 HS All Star show I saw had a former SC WR / host interviewing him and McKinley was making obvious his love of SC.

What the hell, I'm riding with Wiltfong!

I appreciate any WR that has blocking in their highlight video. And they're are some nasty ones too.

In search of a five-star wide receiver in the 2016 class

- Javon McKinley, Corona (Calif.) Centennial – We were hopeful to see McKinley last weekend at The Opening L.A. but injury held McKinley out. He's big at 6-2, 190 pounds and he's productive with 1,900 yards receiving as a junior. Is he elite athletically? In a great year for receivers in California, some college staffs have McKinley as the best of the bunch.

Why do people always say things like this? There's no such thing as a trade in CFB recruiting - you either land a kid or you miss. We will probably miss on both players and even if we did land one of McKinley or Hayes it would not make me feel any different about losing the other.

Per Wiltfong he says that people inside the Gug are looking at a WR combo of Corley and McKinley.

That will get him on the filed as fast as anything.

I like this kid and hope we pull this one in. Would love to get a commit during his visit.

If i didn't know better, I would say his competition is weak.

That is obviously not the case - he just makes it look easy out there. Effortlessly runs past defenders, runs smooth routes, and is pretty evasive after the catch.

This is why 4 and 5 star ratings man nothing to me.

If Javon McKinnley isn't a 5 star football player, nobody deserves to be one ever.

Here are the stat lines against 7 schools last year. Pay attention to who those schools are.

7 rec - 103 yds..............Bishop Gorman / #1 or #2 nationally

3 rec - 118 yds..............Long Beach Poly - (Biggie Marshall and Jack Jones) Top 30 nationally.

14 rec...240yds...4TD....Serra - ND offered 4 current players - Top 50 nationally

6 rec...187yd...1TD.......Mater Dei - offered S / LB Curtis Robinson - Top 40 nationally

11 rec...282yd...3TD.....Bishop Amat - ND offered 2 current players - Top 50 nationally

13 rec...151yd...1TD....John Bosco.........Will offer S DJ Morgan.....Top 10 nationally

5 rec...153yd...3TD.....De La Salle ......... ND offered DE Asiasi....#1 or #2 nationally

What else does someone have to do? Considering competition, that might be the most impressive stat line of any athlete in any sport I have ever seen. That's not hyperbole. In fact, those numbers actually make a good argument for a 6 star.

The last four games listed were the California state playoffs btw.

5 star ratings mean nothing until Javon McKinnley is one.

Exactly...and not just any players. The first play in the highlight film shows him running back a KO against national #1 De La Salle and the next few plays have him clowning Bishop Amat and their All American CB/WR duo of Tyler Vaughns and Trevon Sidney.

I agree, not much else he can do at this point. With that said, there is a lot of talk about him getting that 5 star bump from over the weekend. Since he didn't participate it sounds like it will be pushed back for now. It seems pretty crazy that there are 25ish better WR's out there according to 247.

5-Star is elite talent and potential, McKinley doesn't posses elite talent at this stage.

McKinley potential is somewhat in the air. He doesn't have good hips, so that will hurt his routing running at the next level. He has great hands and plays the ball in the air. But, he doesnt have elite speed, athleticism or size.

If you are aruging on the player himself, then Austin Mack would be head and shoulders above McKinley. If those two would go to camps, then they would jump in the ratings. But, ratings are solely based on if you go to certain camps for the most part.

Don't think thats a shot at McKinley, because I would for Notre Dame to lock him down. He is very productive, but NFL teams aren't knocking down the door for Rashard Higgins who led the NCAA in receiving yards last year.

Devils advocate here, Rashard Higgins is a sophomore so he's not eligible to be drafted right now, it would make sense thats why NFl teams aren't beating down his door. Secondly, huge difference in talent comparison. Higgins is at CSU and is playing mediocre to bad teams every week when compared to guys like Amari Cooper. As pointed out above McKinley is playing an insanely tough schedule. Significantly tougher than kids like Austin Mack.

This is the equivalent of LeBron scoring 40 a game at the national AAU Championships as a junior. I'm not sure he did... he might have(???)

One other thing to note is: The only reason all 7 of those teams aren't in the Top 25 is they play each other and beat up on themselves. (Ewww, did I just pull a SEC-W there?)

You can't grasp how good football is here in the LA metro area until you see it live.

I agree on the schedule, but Centennial also has better talent surrounding McKinley if you are playing devils advocate.

It still doesn't change the fact that he has neight elite speed, athleticism and size. Thats what you are looking for in a 5-star player.

McKinley and Mack are very comparable players. Both do things well. McKinley has great hands but sloppy routes. Mack has great routes but not great hands. Both are physical wr's but arent going to blow you away with their size.

Watch Nate Craig-Myers Hudl: Nate Craig - Hudl

There is a significant difference in speed/athleticism/size. That is why he is a 5-star and McKinley is a 4-star.

Trent Irwin was the most comparable 5-star to McKinley. McKinley can get there, but the main reason Irwin was a 5-star is his routes were second to none in the 2015 class. McKinleys routes need a lot of work and that comes back to him not having the greatest hips/hip movement.

Austin Mack NEEDS to go to camps for evaluators like yourself to figure out how he matches up against like talent. EVERY time McKinnley takes the field with that schedule, he IS at camp. Mack will never see what McKinnley sees just in practice until he enrolls in college... forget McKinnley's schedule and the 4/5 star guys lined up across from him who he was racking up 100 / 200 yard games against.

I'm a basketball guy. If Jahlil Okafor goes for 25 and 15 in Omaha Nebraska, I pay attention to him on the AAU circuit. When he does it at Whitney Young in the Chicago Public League, I don't wait for AAU, I don't need it. I give him all the stars available.

Lol, you don't have to sell me on McKinley. He is the WR that I want ND to land the most in the 2016 class.

You were making a point of why he isnt a 5 or 6 star recruit.

I tried to explain to you that he doesn't have an elite skill set or traits. You think he is a 5-6 star player, thats great. You are out there and can watch his games live each week, but the evaluators from 247/Rivals/Scout/ESPN are not. They get to watch his film that he provides them and base it off that or a camp setting.
