I'll second that. Because he's still wrestling, 41-1 on the season, he's not adding the necessary weight that he'll eventually have. 6'6 220 at the moment. He's going to be a beast at the next level and I think we have a really good chance as well.

Didn't know he wrestled. Give me wrestlers all day long. They consistently turn out to have better hand work, foot work, work better in tight spaces and have quick reaction times.

I'll be down at the state championships this weekend. He earned the #2 seed in the state, and I will try to tape some of his matches and post them. He's a freak athlete, and literally mauls kids when he wrestles. Saw him over the last 2 years, and his body continues grow, so I think his ceiling is really high. Freshman year wrestled at 195, last year 220, and this year 220. However he has grown each year, and this year he is a full 220 and I assume once the season is over will get to 240ish quickly.

Any idea if he plans to wrestle his Senior year? I wouldn't think so but thought I'd ask.

Per Josh Hemboldt at Rivals, some thought he was close to committing to OSU a few months back. Since he didn't, Josh thinks its a OSU/ND battle with MSU as the dark horse.

I don't know the weight classes in Ill. Is the next step HW? He could move up to HW and handle those kids without too much of a problem as long as he doesn't let them get on top.

Leverage, balance, footwork and explosion. Give me a leaned out heavyweight wrestler with those attributes any day of the week. And I love the grit, dedication and hard work necessary to be a high level wrestler as well. Putting weight on him will be a bunt in a college program. Hope this works out, I really like this kid.

Per Wiltfong he's visiting for the Junior Day on the 21st, the BGI date was incorrect. When he visited King's school in December OSU was the team to beat. FWIW, I don't think that OSU gets all of King, Robertson, Bosa, Sammons, and Cooper. So hopefully we can make an impression on some of the others.

I can't imagine he'd give up the wrestling his senior year. He could be a two time state champ.

Yes, it would be HW with a 285lb weight limit if I'm not mistaken.

That would be an insane haul. I think Bosa may be a lock for them, but I wonder how many DEs they would take beyond him and Cooper. It would be amazing if we could somehow grab 2 of those remaining guys.

From looking at the elevenwarriors site, it seems like most people are expecting pOSU to take at least 4 DE's this year, possibly five.

Yes 285 is the limit in Illinois. Not sure if he will wrestle or not next year. Illinois has produced some fantastic 285lbs over the last couple of years, currently the number 1 ranked kid in the country. His advantage at wrestling is that he is just stronger and more athletic then the kids he wrestles. That being said I don't think he wins it all this weekend, because he isn't as technical as some other kids he will see. I will talk to him and tell him the IE guys would love for him to come to ND!

With four boys wrestling over a span of about 13 years, I saw a lot of muscle guys get beat time and again by kids who were technically superior.

Tell him we're also rooting for him.

It was quick, but looks like he could add a whole lot to his frame, and yeah, I love a football player that wrestles, too.

Well, if he doesn't play football for the Irish, maybe he can wrestle heavy for the Hawkeyes.

I take back what I said about him being a probable DT for us. Since he is constantly shifting weights down, he'll probably be best suited to stay in the 260-280 range at DE.

How good are we sitting with this guy right now? I'd imagine very well?

Is he that good? If so, damn.

(I don't know how good wrestling is in Illinois)

You win a state title in Illinois, and have that athleticism... yeah, you can be molded into a top notch NCAA wrestler by the best coaches.

siap

do we have an idea of his decision timeline??

No, I haven't seen much mentioned on timeline. However, he doesn't seem like a kid that is going to drag it out. He's already set on playing in the midwest so he'll be getting to all his schools prior to the OV timeframe. I would bet that he commits prior to football season.

We sit firmly in his top group. Bringing in his friend as a PWO seems to have helped. I didn't realize that they took multiple recruiting trips together last year including one to ND.

In my honest opinion Illinois high school wrestling could be considered the best in the country. No slight to Jersey Penn Cali or Ohio. We have the #1 high school team in the country and 3 or 4 in the top 25. With that being said his weight class was wide open this year, but to his credit he dominated it this weekend. He is so long and athletic it really seemed unfair at times this weekend. They will broadcast the 3a championships on Comcast Chicago march 1st. I hope to get him but this one seems like it's going to be a long one, so buckle those seat belts! :)

Is there a possibility that Notre Dame's lack of a wrestling team hurts their chances here?

I think that's a tough argument to make, although Illinois wrestling is very good.

My unbiased opinion says Pennsylvania. My biased opinion says Ohio. haha

HS wrestling all throughout the midwest is very good. There was a time when HS wrestling in Ohio and Pennsylvania were heads and tails above the others, but in the last 15 years or so, the gap has narrowed considerably. Regardless, HS wrestling is alive and well.

Hope we land King.

Heads and tails? You'd think with that great advantage that some team east of the Mississippi would have won an NCAA championship in the 50 years span prior to 2010.

The Gophers won a few. 47/50 is still decent.

Yeah and those 3 trophies are only about a half block east of the Mississippi.

To be fair though there are around 20 more trophies less than an hour from said river over that period of time too.
