This is whats wrong with college football. This turd ruined (atleast) 2 programs in Louisville and Arkansas. Constantly flirted with other jobs. Clandestine meetings with other programs. Banging co-eds (don't see anything wrong with this, but he was married). And this is just the stuff that we know about.

Yet people still give him the time of day and head coaching jobs. WTF.

The real problem here is that he hired her for a position that she may or may not have been qualified for while he was banging her over people that were probably more qualified.

The thing with Urban is he was once on the coaching staff under Lou, and he has been credited with saying that ND was his dream job. A lot changed though as Urban moved up the ranks, and he reportedly consulted someone about the ND job, a certain Boob Davie, that stated "You cannot win at Notre Dame anymore." So, given that information there was a lot of hope that Urban would take over after he had some success at Utah, and even Florida, but it ultimately didn't pan out. We've done alright with BK though, and I doubt Urban could do better given the circumstances with this program.

Oh... I agree. Notre Dame got the right guy between those two.

Wasn't Urban also talked about at Notre Dame? Interviewing and offering and hiring are a whole lot different but still. Now, everyone does forget that it was Petrino that put Louisville on the football map and not Charlie Strong. Strong came in and elevated the program but if not for Petrino, Louisville don't even get Strong. Not saying he is worthy of rehire but I can also see why Louisville did it.

Interesting thing here is when Petrino was hired the first time by Tom Jurich Charlie Strong was his 2nd choice. Petrino put UL football on the map, Kragthorpe took it off the map and Strong put it back on the map. And Strong even made sure kids graduated.

Saban quit on Miami and no one is bashing him. And its been said that the Falcons players quit on Petrino. I personally don't like him, but who else is Louisville going to get to keep them relevant? It's odd for sure, but don't see it as selling their soul as others are.

Live in Atlanta and that is pure nonsense that Falcon players quit on Petrino. That is so far from the truth that it's nauseating. He was an unmitigated disaster in Atlanta. Saban didn't quit during the season. He finished the season out.

From a fine academic institution too. Kudos to Charlie. He should have no problems at Texas then.

Nothing against Charlie, and I can't stand Petrino for his personal indiscretions, but Strong would have never made it to Louisville without Petrino. Guys a dirtbag but he should get the credit for building that program. Maybe he should give Howard S. some of that credit in all honesty. Kragthorpe - for all purposes seemed like a good person - but he couldn't be a HC. Good coordinator. When Strong got there the Cards weren't broke. They just needed a better HC than Kragthorpe was.

Trust me (Louisville native with UL ties) they were broke when Kragthorpe left. Charlie brought with him his strong (no pun intended) Florida HS pipeline and it's those kids that have brought the program back. I think half the roster comes from Florida now. There would have been no Bridgewater without Charlie. BTW the real savior of Louisville football was undeniably Tom Jurich. Without him that program may be nothing more than Memphis.

This. Jurich is a boss.

Petrino did a lot for UofL, but Schnellenberger and John L. Smith did a lot too. Kragthorpe did awful, and Strong picked them back up. Petrino made them better, but he inherited a pretty good gig from Smith.

But Jurich was the man-- if JS leaves ND, Jurich would definitely be a guy to reach out to.

Also, on a side note about Petrino-- Louisville and Arkansas both absolutely tanked upon his leaving. I think one could probably extrapolate a lot of good from that...but some bad as well. Interesting though.

I would rather play a Strong coached UL opposed to a Petrino coached UL.

I don't support the idea of gray shirting kids due to numbers issues, especially not kids that have been committed for a long time.

But if you're going to ask a kid to do it... Give him more than 48 hours to explore options. I understand cutting ties with a recruit, and mayyyyybbbbeeeee gauging a kid's interest on delaying his enrollment. But this was straight dirty.

No sympathy for Petrino here. Saw this earlier, but didn't read the whole thing. Hopefully he is happy with one of those other offers he was extended.

Can he play safety?

That story is all over the place here. Dutch Fork is a good program. They played on the road at Allen (TX) and lost 58-53 so their kids can play. This was so stupid to do, but right in Petrino's wheelhouse. Louisville won't be getting any kids from SC for a while.

Petrino must be drunk! This is another reason why recruiting is a messed up process!
