I hadnt noticed how many recruits we've taken from Penn St, that's pretty crazy.

Was Ishaq actually committed to Penn State? I knew he was strongly considering them and that he was about to go visit them prior to Diaco camping out in Brooklyn, but I didn't think he had committed.

Agreed, I could be mistaken but I dont recall him ever actually being committed to them.

My error. He was considered by many to be a lean towards Penn State, but Diaco and his 4 am trip changed that.

Got it, sounds about right. Thanks for clearing that up, just wanted to make sure my memory hasn't become too faulty.

As much as we talk about the difficulty the staff faces in recruiting Florida at times, it's crazy to see that Kelly has signed more prospects from only two other states.

good stuff

the only thing I don't like (besides 2012 falling apart) is that we have zero 5 star guys the last 2 years.

Yeah that is concerning but it also has some to do with the fact that a lot of 5 star players do not qualify for ND. I'm not saying all of them of course and we likely missed out or got out recruited for some of them but we don't have the same easy recruiting for all of those guys that most of the rest of the country has. And another thing is that a lot of 5 star players come from the south where football is life and a lot of those players want to play in warm weather or more specifically the SEC. Sucks but it is true. ND is not what it used to be though I think the degree value still holds something for the more academic-minded kids. It's hard as hell to recruit players to play in the Midwest where it is very, very cold for a good portion of the year. Then you have players that can go to any school they want and why wouldn't they want to play for Nick Saban or a Florida team? It sucks to not get that many 5 star players but it's not really that surprising and doesn't necessarily mean the coaches are not doing their jobs.

Gotta think some of that's strategy, given that half of the five stars (and a good number of the high fours as well) didn't make it to their sophomore year. We've generally gone after better fit/higher percentage kids the last couple of classes instead of reaching for stars.

Really impressed that Florida is our third heaviest-recruited state (get that Tony Alford a raise). Also odd that so few of our 18 Ohioans have been meaningful contributors (half a season of Jarret Grace. Maybe Malik Zaire. And...)

Did we really just go an entire recruiting year with only one decommit? (Excluding McKinney)

Wasn't Quenton Nelson a 5* from last year's class?

The star system doesn't really matter to me anymore. I'd love to see a report made as to how many 5* kids pan out in college compared to a 3 or 4* kid.

I heard he was in their student directory.

This is talked about frequently. The answer is-- more.

Kelly vs Meyer

Kelly vs Meyer

Considering Meyer's tendancy to poaching ND coaches - Warinner, Hinton, Coombs, and Alford - has that given Ohio State any recruiting advantage?

Recruiting Front: Meyer vs. Kelly | Eleven Warriors

Looking through both teams' rosters, there are several familiar names who had both the Buckeyes and the Irish in their top group of college destinations. Today we look at a few of the more noteworthy recruitments.

Looking Ahead: Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly Battle Over Class of 2016 and 2017 Prospects | Eleven Warriors

On Thursday we touched on some current Ohio State and Notre Dame players that Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly were both pursuing. Today we look at some of the more notable names for the 2016 and 2017 classes

Brian Kelly is No Stranger to Dealing With Ohio State on the Recruiting Trail

Ohio State and Notre Dame have recruiting battles every single year, and many of those battles take place in the Buckeye State.
