What's the point of that? Do kids really eat that up? I'd rather you convince me the school will actually better my life, not tell me some fairy tale, futuristic biography. Maybe it's because I'm not 18, but I just think that whole thing is stupid and waste of time.
More than eat it up... they expect it. Recruiting is a copycat process. Look at every kid 'choosing a hat' and saying, "I'll be taking my talents to _____". If a program isn't doing something to creatively differentiate itself from the rest it's probably viewed as apathy.
Yeeesh that is the most cheesiest/cringeworthy thing I have seen in a while.
That's not even close. In the early 80's, St Louis U sent me an STL Post-Dispatch newspaper with the Headline, "_______ sends the Billikins to Sweet 16". Pretty cool but I found out later from some guys I knew from the camp circuit that I wasn't exactly the only one.
The most outstanding thing I ever saw was Jim Valvano hired Gary Bender and Billy Packer to re-announce the '83 Championship final play with my best friends name in place of Derrick Wittenburg's during his recruitment.
If Kelly wants to make print outs of a 3 year grad plan, talk about ROI, grad %, #1 school business school in the country, winning a title, and being an AA at TEU, I'd encourage it.
They are. And there are some creative fluff pieces going out in those pots of gold. It's just the nature of the beast.
I used to hand write letters to recruits for hours and hours a day so it just wasn't another form letter my targets were receiving.
I think this effort by UCLA is more par for the course than anything outside the box though I doubt it matters to Clark that the spelling was just a wee bit off.
