Personally I say move Butler to FS. He does not look fluid in man to man coverage (though I think he looked pretty good in zone when we played it). I think he has a much higher ceiling at FS then he does at CB based off of the defense that we currently play.

Yeah, I think Watkins and incoming Crawford could do as well as Butler did in coverage at CB. I like him but he wasn't very good. So moving Butler makes sense on paper IMO.

I don't buy the "Bilal to safety" shit at all. But that's just me, no info. I think it's more probable you'd move Turner back there for depth than Bilal.

Me too on Bilal. Looking back at the quote that gave people this impression, i thnk the coach's quote was a little more ambiguous than it first appeared. I could only see him at safety if we whiff on McKinney and a third S.

I think you need at least 3-4 cbs in the Spring, that's the only issue. As far as spring reps too, you could train Butler at Safety, and use Farley as a CB. He's servici me there, doesn't need too much help at safety, and could use the one on on training before he gets move back in the Spring.

Yeah, I guess I personally prefer Butler to move to safety rather than Farley. I'm hard on Farley, but he played well this year and is another one I prefer closer to the ball rather than in deep coverage.

I know he's been there so it's less of a learning curve for Farley to move, but best case scenario IMO is Butler to safety and Farley to be the 3/4/5 corner if possible.

Per TV, Stanford would take all 3 S's if they are admitted which isn't good for ND as they are the leader for all 3 (Reid, Buncom, and Edwards,). With Reid specifically his mother is a traveling nurse who is in San Fran quite often and his brother plays for the 49er's so Stanford has a location that is very beneficial here. They are looking for a high academic institution so we'll have our shot with his OV coming up but as of now our best bet might be Edwards not qualifying.

All I ask for is two freaking safties with laser beams attached to their forehead. Is that too much to ask for?

Really though, this is really turning out to be a bummer and has the potential to be a major issue again. Can't believe it has gotten to this point.

I think they should both be safeties next year. I just think that if you move Butler for the Spring, you'll probably have to play Farley at some corner, which will probably be beneficial.

Per Irish247, we are actually only trailing Stanford here at this time. We need him to get out of his Stanford OV without committing to give ourselves a shot.

What a mess. I don't even know where I am when it comes to the safeties.

First we have the McKinney debacle where everyone thinks he gone, but then he states he's top 10 in his class, makes good grades and is all set for ND.

Next we have Edwards, who I really liked as a safety, go to Stanford, Buncom, who I liked as a safety, most likely going to Stanford, and Justin Reid, who I liked as a safety, most likely going to Stanford. What is it with losing DB's to f*cking Stanford!?

Don't forget one of the only safeties we we are in with is a Stanford "decommit"

Sounds like he is in fact on track to make a visit this weekend.

How do you like our chances?

Eh, I'm not sure. I do believe we trail Stanford right now and I don't know if he's a take for LSU. But safety is a need, and if we can communicate that I think we've got a really solid shot. I'd put our odds currently at around 30% and they'll either climb drastically or flatline after the visit.

I'll take 30%. Didn't even know he was contemplating a visit.

Per Loy, we've made it clear to Reid that he is a priority. He's aspiring to play as a true freshman and thats something that is playing into his decision on where he goes to school. We explained to him that we're wanting to play out of the Nickel a lot and we need the players to be able to do that. Really enjoyed his time with Cooks earlier in the week and he believes his parents did as well. A lot is riding on his OV this weekend.

IMO, its a fairly big positive that he came away from his Stanford visit without committing. Lets just hope we can hit a homerun with him this weekend. Also, it seems as though the priority is Reid, Meadors, Farrar in that order.

Thanks Lucci. And reason to think he doesn't make his visit, or is it locked in?

He's the only visitor I know of this weekend, should get a lot of attention.

Christ, shut it down. This one's in the bag.

Admittedly, I haven't read how his visit to Stanford went so I'm not nearly that confident. I'd say cautiously optimistic is where I'm at. He still has a LSU visit to take next weekend but by most accounts he isn't currently a take for them.

He called OK, LSU, and Stanford his top 3 yesterday with ND in the 4th slot as he said that he's still trying to figure them out. This is from an interview with an Oklahoma 247 writer.

Any chance thay LSU take was dependent at all upon LSU getting donte jackson? 5 star athlete that just now vommitted to LSU.

That is actually the best possible news for us, if he visits. If we had made our best pitch, and we were still trailing, it might be over. Sounds like we still are a little bit unknown, and one thing ND can do well is sell itself (there is a lot that is easy to sell).

This kid seems impressive and knowing the family history with his brother from LSU this kid could end up a superstar

I don't know, I haven't looked into all that much. I'm more worried about Stanford than LSU. He's been there 3 times, academics are big factor, and his brother is in San Fran.

I guess you would just have to vomit when making a decision like that

And Buncom is announcing for Stanford when? If it's NSD that sucks. Hoping Buncom gets in before Reid and makes Reid realize the PT difference between Stanford and ND.
