I don't really have a problem with the current Top 10, but I just see some mind boggling things about where some teams are ranked. I think AZ and MSU should be switched and I think Duke should be ranked a few spots higher.

I don't really have an issue with them being five spots apart. Both have played pretty much the same level of competition and Nebraska does have the win against the team that beat Duke. I don't think the Duke win over Ga Tech is being viewed as a quality win... nor should it. If there was truly B1G bias... tOSU would be ranked much higher than where they are.

GT is ranked in the Top 25 by the committee 12 weeks into the season. That most certainly is a quality win for Duke by committee standards. And OSU hasn't played anyone besides MSU (for whatever that's worth). No one would argue that.

Well, I disagree then. Reason why? The Aggies are ranked #24. By Tide beat them 59-0. That's not a quality win at all. And Ga Tech is not a quality win either. But then again, I am not on the committee.

The committee isn't supposed to consider MoV or MoD. What they're supposed to see is A&M having three losses (all three to teams currently in the top 10) and a win over a team that was in the top 4 just this past week.

This late in the season, you're going to get 3- and maybe even 4-loss teams ranked in the top 25 based on SOS and signature wins. A&M is benefiting from that right now (as is Bama for beating them). There's nothing wrong with that. You're also going to see teams with less losses but with easier SOS get in the top 25. And that's ok too. Something has to give the deeper into the season it gets.

All I'm saying is the committee evaluates these teams and ranks them accordingly. But so far, every week, there has been at least one really odd ranking. And it's aggravating because while it matters little now, it very well could matter a lot in the final rankings.

I can agree with that. It does appear that week over week the committee has not been consistent. That's one reason why I think we see the eight team format sooner than later.

these rankings are inconsistent. what i don't get is if ND doesn't have a quality win, then why is beating ND considered a quality win?

People keep saying this. Is it true? If it is, that's frankly kind of ridiculous.

We hear on and on about how much they're watching all the games, which means they're analyzing the play on the field. Why the hell wouldn't they be considering margin of victory? A blowout often says a lot about both teams - and if they're watching a game they can see when someone's running up the score late just to win points with the voters vs. when the game is legitimately over before halftime.
Or are we meant to believe that, in A&M's case, a loss by 59 to Alabama is the same as a loss by 3 to Miss. State?

Yes. College Football Playoff

I think it's ridiculous too, for the record.

Take the power away from the committee by winning (We didn't do that). I think by the end of the year everything shakes out. I was shocked TCU is ahead of Baylor, but still a lot of football to be played. What bowl are we looking at now?? Orange?? Chick Filet??

Do you guys actually believe the committee is using those crap AP rankings to formulate their rankings?

If you base your arguments off of AP and USA Today rankings, you should not be criticizing the committee. Now bring into the argument strength of schedule and quality wins, bad losses then now it gets real. Either way I am fine with their rankings anyways because the only ones that matter are the final rankings. These are purely for people to bitch and moan about.

Because some teams stop playing for health reasons and let other teams score meaningless points. Nobody cares about what 2nd stringers do against 2nd and 3rd stringers. It is meaningless to a certain extent and often times skewed.

I would not consider margin of victory but rather watch the actual game and decide for myself if the game was close or they team was simply overmatched. I think if the committee watches the actual game, it is more meaningful that looking at some crap numbers because often times they do not tell you the whole story.

Like ASU and their miracle win against USC where they basically had to have the stars align to pull out the win. They should really have 2 losses and be lower on the totem poll.

Then again, their lonely loss and the mere win over USC was with their backup quarterback as well. You also have to take into account that aspect as well.

A lot has already been said that I agree with, so let me add:

I hate to be that guy, but I've been saying since week 1 rankings that the committee is fucked up. I personally agree where ND is ranked (and I'll get to that). But you cannot make a legit argument for Oregon over UNDEFEATED, DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS FSU. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Also, can someone explain this: Bama moved up last week while on a bye. Bama stayed out of the top 4 after beating a ranked LSU team on the road. WTF is this committee doing? Was that a "make up call" by them? And please don't get me started on Mich St. My God, have they royally fudged that up from the beginning. Seriously, I pray every night that ND gets matched up with MSU in a bowl game. They are TERRIBLE. CFB analysts have been saying all year that the B1G is a terrible conference and they'd be lucky to have one rep in the final four...Can someone explain how they have THREE teams in the top 16 with their resumes? Un-fucking-believable. MSU has been blown out TWICE this year. They have ONE win over a ranked team...Nebraska...give me a break.

As promised, back to ND. Look guys, you need to stop comparing just losses. I've been saying this since the beginning...the committee weighs wins more heavily. ND does not have a single win over a team that is ranked anywhere close to the Top 25. Hell, if it wasn't for Duke's weak schedule, they may even be ahead of ND with a win over GT. A three-loss LSU being ahead of two-loss ND is hard to swallow, but look at their schedule. They have TWO wins over ranked teams. Lets face it, ND has not done anything to prove they belong ahead of any of those teams.

I'm sorry, but that logic fails immediately. You can't just look at wins, because it's a 12 game season. Every. Game. Matters. Wins, losses. They are all equal. You cannot simply dismiss those losses. Look at LSU's. They got spanked by Mississippi State at home, absolutely embarrassed by 2-loss Auburn and shunned by Alabama at home. 2/3 of those "big" losses were at home, 2 of those losses were embarrassments.

ND lost to 2 teams that are firmly in the playoff conversation, both close. Simply put, when the initial rankings came out, the playoff committee stacked all the 1-loss teams together, and then the 2-losses and so-on. They completely went against their own logic this week by putting a 3-loss team over a 2-loss team. Simply put, can't do that and uphold a veil of integrity. Can't have this kind of incompetency in the selection committee. It's not just ND either, which is the main issue. How is it that a team falls short against a higher ranked team on the road, drops 8 spots, while a team with 2 losses already falls short AT HOME, and drops 2 spots? Logic please!

No need to call out Bama fans ACamp. Hate a football team if you like... but people are people. I don't care for certain teams - FSU, USC, Ohio State - but I don't call their fans a miserable group of people. It appears the miserable one is.... you.

I like ND and cheered for them when I was a kid and there were only 2-3 games on a week. The Irish were always one. Still cheer for the Irish when they play. Happen to be a Bama fan first as that is where my kid is. Just think calling other fans miserable - whether you like the team or not - is a little absurd. That's all.

I have these same thoughts about FSU. The ridiculous victim-complex, paranoid conspiracy theories, and arrogance of the entire Tallahassee area coupled with TPD pretty blatantly obstructing justice for FSU makes them just makes completely intolerable. Jimbo Fisher just makes absolutely sick.

Jimbo is a piece of garbage. FSU has been so lucky over the last two years that I can't wait for them to get their karmic justice.

I'm rooting for the Big 12 schools. One will probably make it in. If not, then I'll root for Mississippi State. Alabama has a terrible fanbase, FSU has a bunch of criminals who don't get comeuppance, and Ohio State is Ohio State. I like Oregon more than most people here as well.

Bama, FSU, and Ohio St all making the playoffs is worse case scenario. I don't even care who the fourth team is but I would root for them like their ND cause I can't stand those other programs.

TTT is imo an asset to this board. Provides good insight and a good outsiders view that sometimes we as ND fans miss. I dont always agree with him, or any other poster, but like what he brings to the board. As far as the CFP go I would be cool with Oregon or a Big 12 team winning. None of the teams in contention as particularly compelling to me, but I really just dont want to see a FSU or an SEC team win.

I personally think Baylor is better than TCU and wouldn't mind them getting into the playoffs. I think Baylor and Oregon could blow the doors off some of these teams currently at the top.
