KMOOSE - c'mon man! 219 yrd & 3 TD's on the ground. If they would have gotten that production vs scUM they would have hung 60. I feel you I want more running when running is called for, but . . . 6-0

Live by the Golson - Die by the Golson - I love that ab2cmiller

Still undefeated with youth!

Our d was exposed and tough to remember such poor tackling. This is nothing but focus and tells me we were looking past this game.

We need to buckle down and put together a perfect gameplan for fsu.

Golson has got to grow up for good! This bulllshit of regressing back to day 1 is getting old and makes me want to move on next year with Zaire. Be a man and lead this team dammit!

Folston made a statement and we our grateful for it! I will be honest and say I had him as third best...boy was I wrong! He was a beast today!

Fuller gets us stats, Robinson and koyack gets us W's

We got to have a n answer for the hurry up offense...

Hill is not ready to play this much...we desperately need a upperclassman pass rusher!

Rochelle is the best 3 technique in decades!

Our O line minus Stanley needs to grow a pair or take a seat! This puss mode must end now!

Swaying still looks stupid...

Yup... His carelessness with the ball is getting old with me. Act as if you give a shit about being on the field.

What a silly thing to say. One can be careless with the ball and be working really hard at the same time. And, by the way, what's his record as a starter?

He's so much better than he was 2 years ago. He needs to get better at ball protection. That's certain. But questioning his heart or desire is just nonsensical.

I gotta go with the "Live by Golson, Die by Golson" line.

This season is on his shoulders. Kelly isnt replacing him with Malik.

What have you seen in his game that shows that he's made strides to correct this problem? I anxiously await your response because he's regressing. Stats show that...

Hard to tell on fumbles because I don't have those stats right in front of me but on INTs

in 2012 he had
318 attempts and 6 picks or 1 pick every 53 attempts.
this year
178 attempts and 3 picks or 1 pick every 59 attempts.

So he is throwing INTs a little less often. So what stats are you using to show that he has regressed, unless you are going by fumbles (but I don't see you posting any stats so I can't tell for sure).

Does he need to improve how he holds the ball when he runs, yes though one fumble today was when he was getting ready to throw the ball so that is on the o-line just as much as on him.

Ball security has been an issue and it has been frustrating. It needs to get cleaned up, but it is silly to suggest those issues are a result of him not caring enough. Whatever that means. The guy has done way, way more good than harm this year. We went from a guy that turned the ball over too much over 4 years and didn't do enough to make up for it to a guy who has turned the ball over too much over 3 weeks but has done more than enough to make up for it. And this is the guy you're worrying about?

Thanks, pkt for some stats in the previous post.

Also...Golson is being asked to do waaaaaaaaay more than in 2012. His job in 2012 was to not screw up the game for the defense. This year he's being asked to win games. That comes with increased risk.

No one is satisfied with the turnovers in the last 3 games. But he has 13 TDs and 3 INTs. In 2012, he had 12 TDs and 6 INTs. His completion percentage is more than 5 points better and he's averaging 280 yards passing a game.

How is that regressing? I anxiously await your response. :)

NOTE: We're 6-0.

What does this even mean

All these stroke alert games result in W's when golson finally looks past fuller and distributes the ball to the open man and we score late in the fourth.

When he stares down fiuller only we punt a lot...

-Ugly win but it is still a win
-I thought the D-line played pretty well just the rest of the defense didn't.
-Kelly needs to be in Golson's face all week long about ball security.
-Folston showed why he needs to touch the ball more.
-Fuller is a stat machine. Still had a drop or 2.
-The WR sweeps worked really well.
-O-line made a few nice blocks (Going to be interesting next week)
-Bad prepared defense. 1st game no positive in game changes.
-Another game This team should have owned and couldn't.

Interceptions are going to happen, what scares me is his fumbling issues. Part of what makes Golson dynamic is his running/scrambling ability. If he loses that the offense will struggle.

Here's my post game observation. Fvck ESPN. Check out the score they show on their little scoreboard (in the video) during this piece. Haters or just incompetent?

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish - Recap - October 11, 2014 - ESPN

They were speaking about the win, the other graphic had the accurate score, and the stats were correct. You don't think maybe there was just an intern who didn't shift the graphic from the UGA/Mizzou game?

I really think the anti-ESPN narrative here is a bit over the top.

LOL, I don't remember it ever being 34-0?

It was nice to leave with a win when we lost the turnover battle and gave up over 500 yards. One thing that gives me comfort in our sloppy wins: Kelly finds a way to make it work. We just had a defensive slugfest against Stanford that ended 17-14, then we welcome North Carolina and can't keep them off the scoreboard so we just outscore them 50-43.

I at least have faith that Kelly recognizes what must be done during games and adapts accordingly. Now, if we could just put together one game where we are locked in and avoid turnovers and Golson sustains drives with throws on time and accurate.

I think that's a really good point. We've won in varied ways depending on the opponent.

I think it is on some stuff. But I do think that ESPN has a habit of trying to downplay ND every chance they get. Look at the text underneath the video:

Notre Dame put up 50 points and still needed a late onside-kick recovery to hold off North Carolina.

There were 47 seconds left, after the kick. And North Carolina would only have tied the game, had they managed to score in that time. I'm not saying that it would have been impossible for North Carolina to have scored, but this game was over when ND went up by 14 points, with 2:19 left.

Another narrative that ESPN is pushing, is that "Notre Dame needed another 4th quarter comeback to win, just like against Stanford". ND was losing at the start of the 4th quarter yesterday.......... by ONE point. So being down by 1 going into the 4th, and winning the game, is the same as having to score a TD in the final 3:01?

Something has to be done bout golson handling of the ball. I get it he's the playmaker but on most of his fumbles he have one hand on the freaking ball. I want his hands on the ball like a fullback breaking through but knowing he's going to get ran dwn before he score.

We were behind. The game was very much in doubt. I said at that time on the game chat that I thought we'd win by 10, but it was certainly not a given. And we did need a recovery to preserve the win.

I think people take comments from Mark May and Desmond Howard and use them to justify a perceived institutional bias. Then they look for everything they can to back that working hypothesis. Confirmation bias reigns. Much of the rest of the country does the same based on Lou Holtz' comments.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I just see it that way. ESPN, just like every other media outlet, sells drama. That gets people to watch games.

I'm in the minority with you. ESPN is not out to get ND. They are building more drama as next week approaches. People who don't care about ND one way or the other are more likely to click on a story that says ND had to hold off UNC late then they are that says ND wins a shootout. And, hate to break it to anyone but ND did need to recover the onside kick.

While you may have considered the game over with 2 mins to go, there was still a realistic chance UNC could have tied it. Baylor scored 3 TDs in the final 11 mins. ASU won on a hail mary the week before. Crazy shit happens.

ESPN and voters can hate on ND all they want-ND is still 6-0. However, the Irish still have yet to play a real contender or top 10 team. Yes, they had a schedule at the beginning of the year that was frightening. It doesn't send shivers up anyone's spine now. The Florida State game is the game that matters. The team MUST step up if they want to be seen as a real top 5/10 team. Problem is, Florida State needs the win just as bad.

Looking for improvement and I expect it'll happen. Despite the T-shirts, ND plays to their competition IMO. As others have said, I'm looking for an Oklahoma game next week.

Exactly! The game was very much in doubt. So, if North Carolina was not in the driver's seat, then where was the "comeback"?
