Of the potential scenarios I see this one as the least likely to occur. Not going on the mission or going and coming back to school for at least a couple years are both far more likely.

I agree. I am just throwing it out there because the potential is there.

Aren't all the BYU players like 25 years old for exactly this reason? I feel like someone who is "Mormon enough" to go on his mission is also probably #RKG enough to care about graduating.

He would have to have a crazy productive 1 year to jump immediately in the NFL. NFL doesn't usually take 1 year production very high in the draft. That being said, if he was that productive then cool because that means were strongly in the title mix when you look at the rest of the future talent on the roster

Yea, if he was essentially good enough to be one and done. Then our team probably benefited greatly from the situation.

Just so everybody knows USC is perceived to have a pretty sizeable lead at this point. However, he's never visited ND at that leaves us a pretty good shot to make a move on his OV.

Agree and that's why I don't see it happening, but would love to be proved wrong. A very good season by us and another bad one by USC would help.

I could be completely off on this, but I'm starting to get the impression he's opening up to delaying his mission. If he were being firm about with coaches, wouldn't we see some of the offers tail off?

I'd be happy with a finish of this guy and that Canadian DT, Galimore.

TJ on Porter

Gustin will OV for the Michigan weekend, I believe with family. That's a crucial visit for ND, obviously, given that he wasn't able to visit this summer as originally planned and hoped. He won't be an easy pull away from SC, Utah, UW and the West Coast generally, but he's always been interested in ND and thinks there could be a good fit based on what he knows, sight unseen of course.

Coach Elliott is recruiting him (lead) initially as an OLB who could play some Sam and rush the passer, whether up or down as a RushDE. The latter position probably is where he best projects in time, with development, but he has a great size/movement skills/athleticism profile to get a good look up as an OLB. He and Coach Elliott have a great relationship, so we should have a shot.

With his size, I would love for him to be a rush DE. He would be quick and powerful coming off the edge. Also, I cannot really tell from his film, but just based on his size and stature, I am not sure he would be great in coverage responsibilities. That is more of a gut feeling, nothing to back it up with though.

Kid is a pure rush defensive end. Tell him whatever he wants to hear to get him to ND

Like Sanders, Porter was a SPARQ contest finalist at the Opening. Like Troy Niklas, there are many position possibilities for Gustin.

I've been a big fan of Porter Gustin (and Osa Masina for that matter) but I don't expect to land either. I hadn't seen Gustin listed as a 5 star anywhere.

Isn't Gustin slated to take a 2 year mission like Chris Badger?

Yes, but TJ at II has mentioned that its still an ongoing conversation. It wouldn't surprise me if he realizes he has a fast track to the NFL if he stays.

I may be out of the loop on this, but I thought U$C was a player here. Is that not true? I guess since he is from the West Coast, he will not need to take an official there.

They are still a player and the perceived leader but might not be by as much as some previously thought per Barton Simmons. He's already been there and spent a lot of time with the coaches. He'll be taking all 5 visits and I would assume that they get 1 of the other 2 OV's. As of now it seems he's focusing on setting up visits to those schools he hasn't seen.
