“@ByronHawkStar99: Sometimes you have to do what's best for you so no more package deal”

This along with a recent visit to FSU and not attending Friday Night Lights = Bad for Florida

He did mention trying to add Gallimore to "the package deal". I could handle him following through with Gallimore if it happens at ND :)

Per Rivals, its basically down to UF and FSU for Byron. Oregon running number 3 but at this point he's unsure if he'll even visit Oregon. Clemson and LSU hanging in there.

I love the story.

But, in terms of getting him to ND, could this actually hurt whatever chances there may be? If this kid has that much impact on his life, would he prefer to stay closer to home?

Considering the proximity to home is a huge issue for him, I'm not surprised that FSU and UF are at the top. But how is ND not even mentioned? Based on what he has said, they should be the top out of state school on the list. A month later, and I still don't understand what the "experts" see in his "interest" with Oregon. Not that it really matters, doesn't look like he's leaving the state (FUCK!!!!)

In an interview at the Opening with Tom Loy, Cowart stated that he would take an official for the Stanford game(October 4th). He also stated in the interview that his decision would be in December, after his high school season. The 28th is a Sunday, and a day after the Syracuse game. Why the change in timeline? Will Cowart be taking any officials prior to his 28th commitment date? And why does Rivals have him by the nose(the fact that they have him rated as their number 1 player)?

Scout: his coach says he is announcing the 28th and it will be UF or Oregon. There are mentions of possible visits to other schools after committing.

Am I hoping/reading into this too much thinking ND has a chance since he is announcing on NBC? I really wanted Cowart...seemed like a RKG with a great southern football ability. Was hoping he would come to ND for a game at least.

If this recruitment decision is down to Florida and Oregon, Cowart will choose Florida because of their defensive line coach Brad Lawing(Clowney's coach at South Carolina). I have never understood this fascination with Oregon. Oregon plays basketball on grass, score fifty points and give up forty, and this style of offensive play would not appeal to a defensive lineman with NFL aspirations. This staged early commitment has purpose. Cowart's commitment would then bring other prominent players to the Florida program.

What is the advantage of committing to UF now? Saving a spot? It's quite possible they have no head coach at the end of the season and they are playing only 11 games.

Oregon is Nike U and he loves the afilliation. He believes it will benefit him greatly after football. Definitely UF.

Saving a spot? Cowart could wait until national signing day, and commit to any college that offered. And, they would gladly accept(bump someone, and create a spot, if they had too). Cowart understands that his commitment has implications, and could create a hey look me over NFL defense under Brad Lawing, and that an early verbal to Florida will bring other prominent players in the 2014 recruiting class.

I get that and I did not mean to imply saving a spot as in someone else would take it. Poor word choice on my part. It's highly possible he will commit to Florida with far less certainty who his head coach will be. It's well known Muschamp is on as much of a hot seat as any coach at a big time program. Having UK take them to 3OT made it that much hotter. I guess he could be committing to the school as that is where he wants to go but why still take visits. Again, I will never understand this. He is likely the #1 recruit in the nation. He can go anywhere. Why commit and still take visits if he is gonna be a lynchpin in a recruiting class?
