Well it is a Catholic University so maybe that's where people get the perception.

Thats about the number I expected. And yes, I know we welcome all faiths and denominations. That combination is what makes us such a unique university.

Just to clarify, ND is aware that a decent chunk of those kids aren't even nominally Catholic, but just check the box to help with admissions. Its not a big factor, but ND does treat a kids Catholicism as a positive for admissions purposes.

So if someone were applying to ND for admission, would being Catholic be an advantage or disadvantage? If it came down to two "identical" applicants for the final spot, would the non-Catholic have the edge in the name of diversity or does the Catholic have the advantage?

To be fair, they do have better Christians.

No student I've talked to that wasn't Catholic ever felt put upon by any means when they were at ND. It's a very inclusive atmosphere for a school that places such a premium on its beliefs. I try to take a very objective look at ND in all things and have many complaints, with a lot of those being very unpopular. However, the Inclusive Atmosphere at Notre Dame is a tremendous achievement. One really has to buy into the whole experience though to get the most out of the place (as with most anywhere we'll ever go), and therefore it's not for everybody.

Scout: GREAT interview video with him. If you have Scout go watch it. He is straightforward, humble and cerebral. Stated several times him and Cece Jefferson are a package deal. Also he has been talking to Gallimore and Ivey about become a package deal with them. Oregon does lead and he needs to get his mom there for final approval. UF second. Legitimately likes Maryland and will be at the ND/Stanford game. Visiting Bama soon too. He wants to see how BVG prepares for and attacks Stanford. Every answer about any school has purpose.

LOVE this kid, somehow ND needs to land him.

I have never seen a kid conduct himself in an interview like he did yesterday. I actually listen to his whole interview and I was like damn this kid is gonna be successful know matter what he does.

I agree completely. I never skip any parts or tune out at all with his interviews.

I spent a significant amount of time on campus at Gonzaga (both of my younger siblings went there) and Georgetown. I'd wager that ND is a lot more Catholic in character than any of those schools.

One female Hoya I met in DC had no idea that Georgetown was a Catholic institution, and was only vaguely aware of the "je-SOOT".

And the implication being that Notre Dame is less catholic than its Jesuit and Augustinian counterparts?

I bet if you asked people on the street, they couldnt tell you those schools were even Catholic. What I mean is that we have such a reputation as the most famous Catholic university, yet about 1/5 of our students arent.

I agree with your last statement, but nothing in that summary gives me a good feeling about it happening at this point unfortunately.

Not quite. I was surprised (pleasantly, in one case) with how forward the women at Georgetown were.

Of course they are. Most of the men around them are 60 and 70 year old senators, congressmen and lobbyist, so when they see someone younger they pounce!

Part of Sampson's Summer notes on the defense, was that the staff believes they have an honest shot with Cowart.
