@AnnaHScout: DB @PjLocke4 talks Irish offer, including what Kerry Cooks told him after reviewing film of 15 safeties yesterday ($) Scout.com: Prentice McKinney Profile

-Started hearing from Notre Dame after Michigan State offered.

-Says academics will be the deciding factor in his college decision.

-Did a lot of research on ND after he received the offer. Realizes that he will be set for life with a Notre Dame degree. Wants to major in Engineering.

-Looking to set up a Spring visit.

-Cooks told him that the staff is looking for a safety that can cover a slot receiver and can play anywhere on the field. IMO, looks like their trying to find a Troy Polamalu.

I mean engineering sounds cool to people, everyone wants to design and build cool technology, but 4am in the the library- not nearly as much. Engineering has low retention rates for all student, and with athletes...wow. I couldn't imagine working until 4am then getting up at 6 and trying to cover a Troy Niklas type. (Well, I couldn't even imagine covering Troy under any conditions, but I digress). Not impossible, but amazingly difficult.

This. I would love to see the actual stats on how many scholarship college football players receive an engineering degree every year. A generous guess would be 1 per team. It's probably lower than that. You have to be a machine to spend ~40 hours a week in the football facility and another 40 in your books. I know that in software engineering I could sometime spend between many hours on assignments that wasn't worth that much points. I would imagine that you need to make a lot of sacrifices to succeed in both.

It is 100% impossible today to major in Engineering at ND and be on the football team. Impossible.

As a recent ND grad with a bunch of engineer friends, I agree with this. There's a lot of collaboration with other engineering students involved, and that takes place at basically the same time as any football activities.

Stanford offered

I feel the urge to post the obligatory "He Gone" in italics or something of that persuasion.
But I shall not.

I don't see how these kids could handle engineering and football.
Pretty badass if it can be done though.
