Spent the weekend fishing the Green Drake hatch on Penns Creek in Central PA. Had some of the best nights of my life. The spot we fished was about a 3 mile hike in and we were there until around 12:30-1AM each night, so the pictures we got were pretty poor. Here are some of the better ones..

Rod rack for the weekend:

Typical Penns brown:

Big brown (18 inches):

If you look really close and zoom in you can see its a cow, but definitely looks like a doe at first glance.

*Yes, I zoomed in what might have been some freaky inter-species erotica.....

Rivers have been blown out here for weeks, but I did make it out to CO recently. Got this pig rainbow.

In other news, picked up my duck stamp this morning. Who's ready to plunk some ducks?

What are you using for a duck gun?

I'll duck hunt maybe 1x a year-combined with goose hunting. Fun stuff-but friggin cold. I was at a show in PA this year and bought this for cold weather hunting:

2nd week in September-bowhunting in Nebraska for a week. If I don't tag, it'll be back to Nebraska for guns. Have yet to kill a big wallhanger, but it's one of my quests. Already prepping my urban properties for close-to-home bowhunting.

I also booked a red stag hunt in New Zealand with this outfit for April 2015. Very stoked. Plan on taking a stag, a goat, and a turkey, and maybe if the stars align, a fallow deer buck.

Jeebus Fbolt, a freeking NZ stag hunt?!?!

That's boss.

@Shake - I typically hunt ducks from my boat (you can shoot from a non moving boat in MI) and hunt geese from a ground blind.

I shoot my trusty Baikal 12g still for ducks. I was hoping to shoot a new gun this year, but alas... I did not win the auction.

I did hunt in South Dakota with one of the guys that won a gun. He was trying shooting turkeys cold with no sight in time and no choke. I harassed the guy endlessly. Eventually he did get some birds down, but only after he borrowed a choke and missed several times. Kept trying to get him to give me the gun....

I was hunting with a gun I won at a NTWF banquet. A Charles Daly 3.5". Surprisingly, that gun was a beast-Took one at 60 yards. I was impressed-although it needs a kick-eze pad.

NWTF banquets are bad memories for me. I entered a couple guns raffles at the one this past year but alas, didn't win any. Some alcohol entered my fiance and she ended up bringing home a 4 month old beagle puppy......

Got my hands on 20 private acres that no one has hunted in decades for this fall. I'm hearing that it has a couple albino whitetail on it :wbanana:. I'll be heading out in a couple week to scout and check out the property. Hunting public land near St. Louis is a pain in the ass. Anti-hunting folk will literally walk under your stand and bang around pots and pans to prevent you from hunting. I'm so happy have the private land now.

Just brutal. There has to be some recourse for that kind of harassment. Some legal, some maybe not so legal.

20 acres? I'd love to have that close to home. Food plots galore. Good luck and keep me informed.

Decided to up my arrow weight this year. Was at 385 grains and am trying to get up to 440-450 for the red stag hunt. Switching to 125 heads and putting reflective wraps on the tail. Need new strings for my PSE too.

That's a heavy arrow! Do you pay attention to your weight ratios front to back? It find it makes a huge difference on the flight of the arrow.

If you're looking at new strings, check out these guys. ProLine Custom Bowstrings Crossbow Replacement Strings You can typically get a great deal from them from Archery Talk. I ordered some blue, gold, and green strings from them last year and I love them.

And for the harassment, I believe there actually are laws in place for it but it's very hard to prove these types of situations. Typically the harassment cases that get worked are people sabotaging food plots and were caught on camera.

I do pay attention to FOC, trying to get the arrow to fly correctly is crucial. If I'm correct, I'll have a FOC of 11%, which should be good.

I buy a lot of my high end stuff off AT. My PSE DNA SP was a brand new cast-off after bow season this past winter. 2 owners, something like $600. Could not pass on it-especially being a PSE fan bow and having an older PSE TS X-Force from 2008.

I have bought strings on AT before but would rather support locals. There is a guy not to far away who does a good job and if I have rotation issues, I can easily go back to him.

Good luck with the PETA crowd.

That FOC will be nice. You can get some great deals from AT. I'm looking to upgrade my bow after this season and will be hoping a lefty Elite Energy 35 pops up for sale.

I dig my Mathews Z7.

Great bow. I have no need to upgrade. QAD drop away and my Spot Hawg sight (7 deadly pins) has that baby dead on from 20-80yds.

Shooting hunter XTs.

I would recommend the toxic broadhead. Anyone seen their video? It's ridiculous. Wound channel is the best.

Unfortunately I cannot draw out for a damn elk.

I hear you on the elk draw. Since KY is closest, I apply but am never chosen-at least to date.

I have used Rage in the past. Last year I went with Toxic and QAD Exodus with plans to use the same this year.

LH bow deals seem to be pretty good on AT if I recall correctly.

I just bought my first house and bow since last deer season. Never hunted myself, but planning to start. I got 20 acres in Southern Illinois and cannot wait. Need to get my new sights set in the next few weeks

@FBolt - so jealous man. That New Zealand hunt is a dream.

@Peoria - I'd climb down, chase down and beat the piss out of someone that did that to me.

I hope it turns out as well as it plays out in my mind.

-and yes, I'd be looking to beat some anti's up. However, that never accomplishes anything (except instant gratification). Maybe pots and pans outside their home in the evening or early morning?

Or follow them to their favorite restaruants as they consume animal products obtained from mistreated animals without any fair game involved. My biggest peeve with the PETA crowd is their hypocrisy. Plenty of them use dairy products from mistreated/hormone filled cattle, some even eat meat. So it's ok when they don't have the blood on their hands, but it's wrong when we harvest wild animals in fair chase?

It makes no sense and cowardly of them. At least we are humanely harvesting our bounty and don't let someone else do the dirty work.

as they sit around with their leather purses/shoes. Agreed. I can never be called a hypocrite because I don't stand for anything. Except me. lol

Congrats, and welcome to what will become a lifelong obsession! There is nothing more fun than archery IMO. What kind of bow did you get?

I got a bear. The basic starter kit. Fully adjustable from 15-70 lbs draw. I upgraded the rest to a fall away and the sight. I cannot remember the brands right now and I am in NYC for work, but I will let you know Thursday or Friday when I return

Couple cool pics to share:

1) last year my mother in law heard a very strange blood curdling noise early in the morning, this is what she found outside:

2) found this at my mom's house, a pic of my dad and grandpa from the glory days on Lake Michigan. I'm definitely framing this, easily my favorite picture ever:
