Ok, not real impressed with his film... a lot of screens, swing passes or dumps to the flat. Throws a decent slant and shorter down field throws. A lot of the "highlights" are runs after the catch or toss by the backs and WRs. Decent arm, good wheels and great runs after the catch by his backs and great down field blocking.

Have to keep in mind he's switching to QB from WR so he's not going to have the laser-guided rocket arm yet. I think the Whitfield article did a good job of breaking down how raw he is and the potential he has. If we needed a day 1 starter, we'd be screwed. Luckily, we could have him work with our QB coach full-time for a few years before he'd ever need to see meaningful snaps.

Think about how Tannehill switched positions. He was insanely raw, but you couldn't deny the ability. That's who Stidham reminds me of.

Edit: I'm also probably a little too high on this kid just because I hate TTU, and I want to stop reading about Barnett on Twitter.

His release reminds me of a lot of Rees (in a good way). Although the release point is a bit low, it's quick. So I see a bigger armed Tommy Rees with some wheels.

So he's got an arm and wheels. Tell me again how he reminds you of Tommy? Does he check out of every play at the LOS?

Agree on the frame comparison completely, especially when you consider Barnett is 8 months older than Stidham. BB is very thin for an 18.5 year old playing football 24/7.

So now he is not only being recruited outwardly by 24/7, he's playing for them? Well that explains it.

More importantly, in his profile picture posted above he doesn't strike me as the type of dude you're going to see with the sides of his head shaved and the top combed over in a wave while rocking a belly shirt.

Also, it's a Texas recruit. The staff has done a lot better recruiting Texas than Cali recently...

I took it as him being a jokester, but I was wondering what the heck he was doing too!

so you are saying the kid is basically Matt Saracen?

Barnett would likely have got to campus and seen Blankenship's cool flow and quit the team instantly anyways

Recent tweet, I don't know how old the info is or if someone contacted him after rumored ND interest.

I'm saying his release is very, very similar. Compact, quick release on the bright side, somewhat low release on the downside, overall pretty good, especially for a spread offense. He also mostly stands tall in the pocket when passing, and only slides into the pocket when he has to. Doesn't seem to take off or roll out of the pocket much like Tommy, other than when there's a clear opening or he's running the option. When he does run he has some good foot speed.

Lol. Just two hours after "he's all Texas Tech" tweet we get this. I think Hollywood said that recruits that tweet about getting other offers are never 100% committed. I tend to agree with that.

I posted the tweet about He's all TT but it definitely wasn't a tweet from Jarrett and I didn't know if it was recent information (after ND rumored interest) or if it was older information that was simply being retweeted like some web sites like to recycle information.

Nice. I know when it was tweeted, I'm not an idiot. I just don't know if they are tweeting out old information (who knows it could be from a week ago) or if it's new information.

I remember searching on Twitter for Ty Isaac info and half of the new tweets were links to articles that were a week old.

But thanks for the tip chief.

So I don't know the whole Blake Barnett story.

But, Notre Dame is doing the same thing here as Oregon right? So if this kid commits to Notre Dame and put TTU in a bad spot for their 2015 QB it's ok right? This kid didn't do anything wrong right? But Blake did?

Like I said above I don't know the Barnett situation.

Can't a fan not like a kid for leaving HIS team anymore?

Also, who knows if ND is doing the same thing. Personally, I have no problem letting a committed kid no you are interested. I have a problem negative recruiting committed kids, or committed kids not being upfront about having other interest. Does it mean the kid is a terrible human being? No.

Lucky posted this in the Barnett thread

Per Tj responding to a post about accepting other kids decommitting to ND why wouldn't we feel the same about Barnett leaving for Oregon. Great stuff here and obviously makes me wonder how F'ing pissed BK is at this kid.

Regarding the bottom line, perhaps it isn't much different. I get that. Nature of the beast these days, sadly.

But you will appreciate, sjb, that the real difference lies in the how and when of the process, and it's dynamics, rather than the mere bottom line of what, or even why. Recruiting a QB today is VASTLY different than recruiting numbers at any other position, and that's for both the school and the kid/family. When you enter into a joint agreement, explicitly understood by both sides, not to continue recruiting as a QB commitment is made and accepted, there are all sorts of tangible consequences for both sides if that agreement is broken. Especially if broken in the manner and at a critical time such as this one.

There isn't a coach or staff or program in America that wouldn't agree with this concept of the inherent uniqueness of QB recruiting today, given how things work here. Saban was rightly pissed at Town, and BK is right to be pissed at Barnett and family. LBs or others -- it's simply next man in. QBs -- not nearly. And especially problematic, again, in the when (during a quiet period now, right ahead of our crucial camp/visit period) and, even moreso, in the how it went down.

It's time to move on, and we're doing so. But in this case, uniquely, it's a problem and not easy to overcome. Somehow, though, we will.

Yep. Say this kid does flip. He basically put TTU up the creek without a paddle for 2015 QB's.

IF he told them that he was 100% committed and was not looking around.

Some school tell you to go ahead an committ and try to get you to feel like part of the family.

Its not that he de-committed. Its the whole process of how he de-committed and a member of 247 had a role in it then gloated about it on Twitter.

According to the Travis Waller's HC, he said Notre Dame informed him that they were honoring Barnett's commitment which is why they stopped offering QB's. In a matter of 48 hours he went from rock solid to not even considering so yeah, BK isn't too thrilled.

Just to be clear about my opinion...

I think the nCAA should have rule that officially cuts-off communication from other coaches once a kid commits. A kid should have to decommit before otehr schools can talk to him.

HOWEVER, things as they are... I think schools are fine reaching out to express interest in kids, but should not actively recruit them once they are committed (unless they make it clear to their school that they are still looking). Similarly, if a kid tellss the school he is 100% committed, he SHOULD stop talking to other schools unless he tells them he is doing so.

I think this what is bad about the bb situation. I think people feel like Oregon didn't do a lot of recruiting. But justin hopkins was going to town on the 'crootin front. It matters not what rules are out there for schools if you simply have a j-hop out there doing the work for you.
