according to loy, Big news. Hearing #NotreDame is expected to offer this elite 2015 QB and will be a major player here.

He is looking around despite being committed and he has always been high on ND. He could receive an offer as early as today.

Really good athlete who is transitioning to QB from WR. He was a 1,000 yard WR as a sophomore with 10+ TDs.

Has and Elite 11 invite and will be at The Opening

OVERALL TRAITS
Size-Strength-Mobility
Tall and wiry. Has yet to grow into his frame. Very flexible player. Shows significant physical development upside. He's a really good athlete overall. Can be utilized as a designated runner or an improviser when things break down. Possesses very good speed for the position.
Mental-Makeup
Highly competitive. Has a nice feel for the game. Shows the ability to pull a rabbit out of hat and keep his poise when things break down. Has a nice presence within the pocket. Shows the ability to track targets and move through progressions. However, at times he will leave the pocket too soon and rely on his feet and athleticism.
Accuracy
Flashes excellent accuracy to all three levels of the field, but not always consistent. Needs to hit the strikezone in a manner that allows for targets to consistently transition upfield with ease. There are moments as a passer on the move where he shows rare accuracy when off balance or across his body. He can make the difficult look easy and fit the ball into tight spots.
Release/Arm Strength
His release is one of his best physical attributes. He has a smooth, fluid and effortless stroke. Ball comes out quickly. You can't coach his delivery. Arm has zip and RPMs with the strength to drive the ball downfield or make throws outside of the numbers. Can make some throws when on the move that are very difficult.
Bottom Line
Stidham reminds us of Derek Carr as a passer and Marcus Mariota as a runner. He is only going to get bigger and better with more experience. He's the type of player that can fit into any scheme and add the dimension of a constant running threat. He is extremely attractive because there is a high ceiling for development.
Junior Eval
STRENGTHS: Nice measurables and impressive athleticism for a skill prospect. Possesses good height and a muscular, well-built frame. Shows surge off the line to create separation as a receiver. Not afraid to go over the middle and catch in traffic. Has good hands and can extend and catch on the run. Possesses raw arm strength as a passer and flashes some underneath zip. ... AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Needs to improve speed and develop overall playing strength for the next level as a skill prospect. Lacks suddenness and change-of-direction burst to create big plays after the catch. Not a natural pass catcher and tends to fight the ball at times. Still developing as a route runner. Lacks experience as a QB. ... BOTTOM LINE: Stidham is a versatile athlete who will benefit from improved playing strength and speed and refined throwing mechanics if recruited to play QB.

Dude is LEGIT. I'll have to watch his film again, but I don't remember a significant drop off between him and Barnett. He also received rave reviews at every camp he attended to my knowledge.

Yeah, he's a fantastic prospect. He and Brady White are two guys it would be great to make a play at. Everyone else left seems a step below.

I was actually looking at the DT QB rankings yesterday and thought to myself who of these guys would we want. He was definitely one of them but I thought we wouldn't have a shot. Here's to me hoping I was wrong, for once ;)

Ryan Newsome took a visit with him to Texas Tech and seems to have some kind of relationship with him. While Ryan expressed some excitement at the thought of playing with a guy like Jarrett, he wasn't very thrilled about Lubbock.

George Whitfield Talks Texas Tech Commit QB Jarrett Stidham - Viva The Matadors

Famed quarterback guru George Whitfield spoke to SB Nation's Wescott Eberts (who can be found via the Twitter @WescottEberts and if you into recruiting, he's a great follow) while in Dallas at an Elite 11 event. For those of you that don't know, Whitifield is the quarterback coach for many of the top quarterbacks annually, and even Davis Webb attended a quarterback school with Whitfield earlier this year.

When asked about what he liked about Stidham, Whitifled said that Stidham is a terrific all-around athlete who has a big arm:

"I like him. I like him. Again Kingsbury pulls off another coup, gets another big kid who can spin the ball. Has that sneaky athleticism to him, good with the second reaction stuff and he's an all-around athlete."

Quarterbacks are almost never finished products and Whitfield did note that Stidham could certainly improve his footwork:

"There are some lower body things. He could be a little more smooth transitioning his weight. He seems to get up on the balls of his feet when the ball is thrown, which means his effort is still kind of pulling him forward, but he's talented for sure."

In watching Stidham and 2014 Texas Tech quarterback signee Patrick Mahomes, they're so much different than guys like Davis Webb as Webb grew up playing quarterback, while players like Mahomes and Stidham picked up playing quarterback relatively late. This probably results in having a few mechanical issues that Whitfield mentions, but overall, you get the idea that this a pretty easy fix.

It seems like that a lot of high end athletes tend to get on their toes. That seems natural in some respect, especially because most of the time you really don't want to be flat foooted, so that makes sense, but this is something that I've never really paid attention to in looking at quarterback tape.

Whitfield also noted that Stidham has a tendency to drop his arm slot a bit, which is something that I think takes lots or repetition to correct, but it's not a huge deal:

"Little bit, but I think his adrenaline gets ahead of the execution. He gets the ball out so fast with his quick delivery that he may not give himself the max opportunity, but once you weigh it all in, those are all things that he can iron out. He'll get those things ironed out."

Pretty minor quibbles overall and we keep talking about how much potential Stidham has in terms of his athletic ability and his ability to maybe fix those minor mechanical issues and have an even bigger arm than he currently exhibits.

Part two of these sets of quotes is from Elite 11 organizer Trent Dilfer.

I'd be fine w a guy that needs a couple years to develop and has a high ceiling. I think the combo of Golson and Zaire will be tremendous for the next 2-3 seasons.

Plus, we are in a good spot with several of the top 16' QB's.

I like this kid's upside.

Yes, he's currently the 2nd rated DT QB on 247's composite. With that said Blake will end up being substantially better rated when its all said and done, IMO. He might be the best QB and arguably a top 15 player. I think he's going to be that good when this year is over :(

His release reminds me of a lot of Rees (in a good way). Although the release point is a bit low, it's quick. So I see a bigger armed Tommy Rees with some wheels.

So I watched any tape that I could find on this kid and came away very impressed. Physically he has all the tools. Needs some work on mechanics but that can be cleaned up. One thing that showed me the most was his progression over time. I started with last years tape and then watched in order some of his spring events. He's getting better and better. Lastly, (this isn't sour grapes) but Barnett has a thin frame. Waist, legs, arms, etc. Jarret has a much better frame and build to add weight.

Agree on the frame comparison completely, especially when you consider Barnett is 8 months older than Stidham. BB is very thin for an 18.5 year old playing football 24/7.

Ok, not real impressed with his film... a lot of screens, swing passes or dumps to the flat. Throws a decent slant and shorter down field throws. A lot of the "highlights" are runs after the catch or toss by the backs and WRs. Decent arm, good wheels and great runs after the catch by his backs and great down field blocking.
