Have we run a one-day, invite only camp in the past w/out a catchy name for it or is this something new?

The date(s) in the thread title should change to Friday, June 20 to not confuse this camp with the other "open to the public" camps ND is running.

A poster on II brought up the fact that new uni's, new field, and projects will be underway when Irish Invasion takes place and here's what TJ says.

^Yes. A lot will be on display that week and weekend.

They've targeted several dozen of their top guys and high-interest targets and prospects for the Invasion already, and they'll add more as the spring eval period progresses and concludes over this next month. They hope to hit a pretty good yield of invites-to-attends, obviously, as long as kids and some families interested can work out finances and logistics, of course. They'll also have some '16 kids there, too, and possibly a few '17s.

This won't be a BBQ social. This will be an actual camp-like competitive event challenging kids to compete against and with each other, much like the RCS/Challenge/NFTC event stuff. The coaches and other coaches will be involved. And yes, recruiting will occur as allowed.

-My words, this is hard to not get excited about.

I like it. Rather than a rah-rah social atmosphere, you can put some of the best athletes in the nation in natural competition mode, and tie it in with ND as a common ground on the way to excellence.

Who started these camp things? Like lets get a bunch of elite kids on campus and have them compete against each other? Urban at Florida? Or where there camps like this already? I would love to see this camp become a early thing like Auburn's tiger day, Georgia's dawg night and Florida's Friday Night lights

Hopefully the "Irish Invasion" will be at the same level of these events sooner rather than later.

I believe the CAMP idea was primarily Urban at Florida. Which is why Ohio State has a Friday Night Lights now too, and I'm pretty sure that predates everything in terms of an "event" elite summer camp that's supposed to be a production.

The big "social" event idea has its origins with the Texas junior day. That got everyone in the country who wasn't doing a "junior day" to do one (or invest more in it), and from there it morphed into lots of other schools putting together a second summer social event because they weren't having the same success as Texas in locking down a bunch of commits at a spring junior day.

I feel like this camp is more then a junior day but I understand what you are saying. My question was this like actual camp invent was that Urban at Florida?

Yeah, what I'm saying (and I edited my above post to make it more clear) is that summer events come in many shapes and sizes. Doing a camp that is also an "event" I think was first done by Urban at FNL. Before then people obviously had summer camps, but never tried to turn them into a true productions.

The other types of "events" (i.e. BBQ, Dawg Night, etc.) all trace back to Texas locking up elite classes with their junior day... which got everyone investing in junior days... which then got some schools saying "well, everyone has a spring junior day... we need to put on something over the summer that is a big recruiting event to lock up some early commitments."

Whoever makes these promotional materials has a very clean sensibility and exhibits good use of font, lines, and embossing.

Not the best use of words, though.

"Our staff has selected you as one of the top players in the country."

They probably should have written "recognized you as" or "selected you because you are..."

Nothing terrible, but if the goal is subjective perfection...

Not so much thier early stuff, it was a little too 'new-wave' for my taste, but I think they really came into their own - both commercially and artistically - once Sport came out.

Yes! In '87, Huey released Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself which is why I think she said it the way she did. It implies exclusivity at ND. ND selected you.

That's what I thought when I read it. They wanted to convey a sense of their active, assertive, authority: "We get to chose. And we don't chose just anyone."

But they took it up a notch. Idiomatically, it's almost as if its saying that the invitee was not one of the best players in the country until ND selected him to be ("We selected you as one of the best players . . .). What they meant is, "We selected you as an invitee to our camp because we recognize that you are one of the best players in the country."

BTW, did you know I'm utterly insane?

We are trying to get 2016 MN QB Seth Green to campus for camp. Kid is starting pick up some serious interest. Was invited to the rivals 5 star challenge and is good friends with Jashon Cornell.

According to 247, dude has really good offers but only 13 of them. For some reason no 'small offers' are coming in for him, or he's not reporting them, lol.

I love this idea for a number of reasons but I hope Notre Dame finds a way to make it special. Plenty of schools are doing this so ND needs to do whatever they can to make this event shine.

  • Highlights - they should have their film crew out in full force, 10+ cameras filming this action. They need to capture every top play and important coaching moment during this event. Then put your editing team to work. Have a theme that will age well and keep it consistent, this will allow players to see what's been happening as this continues to grow.
  • Website - If this doesn't violate any rules, they need to create a polished website that emphasizes each player that was in attendance. Links to their highlight reels, etc. Each year will clearly display the players who attended. For those that attend and subsequently choose ND, we could continue to update with highlights or find some way to show the success players have after attending. Any other plans for this event should be captured and proudly displayed. Make kids yearn to have their name on this list and to be seen as an Irish Invader. (top notch T-shirts would really help as well).
  • NFL Coaches - try to get some additional coaches there. That is a big draw and most of these kids share one aspiration - to make it to the league. It'd be great to pull a Belichik but any NFL coaches would add some weight and offer some more coaching during the event.

Of course, it's all about execution. Anyone can scribble an idea on a napkin. I'd love to work with this administration on stuff like this. It's an arms race to find creative ways to attract the big guns.

Yea, his coach might be bringing him up for II. Says that Alford and Denbrock are great. Also Florida is slipping a little due to lack of communication and poor performance. He even mentions that he doesn't want to see Muschamp fired but is keeping an eye on that.

Very intrigued by this kid. Hopefully he makes it and the coaches can see him move in person.

Cooks saw him some when he offered. It was their first day of spring practice so at least he saw something but more would be great.
