Character Development = Soap Opera

I think some of you would prefer the show if they just made it an hour of mowing down zombies with an oozie. No character interaction, no conversation period... just dead zombies.

Personally I liked it better when it was a survival horror thing when Rick was all alone in the first few episodes. And as a "soap opera" I think the lines and writing are really corny and predictable. Not to mention repetitive. Seriously That whole governor story arc was a joke (not to mention he was the most annoying "bad guy" ever, seriously omg he has only one eye he's so scary). The gov has his own team that he manipulates to do his will and to leads them to a huge battle where he escapes only to find another crew that he quickly rises to lead and manipulate to do battle again.

And everything always works out perfectly. When they get surrounded by the guys darrel is with and everyone has a gun to their head. Everyone makes it out ok? Seriously no one gets shot, scraped, or barely bruised? The worst thing to happen is Rick gets his ears ringed for like a second and a half? Or what about when the farm is overrun and everyone meets safely like 10 minutes later? ( ok everyone important, a few random extras got their first lines just to make it more meaningful when they get killed). This time they took a little longer, 5-6 episodes, but everyone important made it back ok to that boxcar. (I get that the little girls died boohoo, and yea Tyrees and Carol aren't there yet but you wanna try and convince me they arent going to end up there in the first few epsiodes?)

You complain like a girl after watching an episode of the Bachelor.

I'm a big fan of this season. Finale was awesome minus the last line. I was 75% sure Carl was going to get shot at the end but it never happened. That would have been epic.

Where's Beth?? Did the terminus people snatch her?

Seems pretty clear that Tyrese and Carol are going to play some part in saving the group. I just wonder how much of the next season will be spent there...

Yeah, for a minute I thought Corl might die too. I think Corl will hang around till at least midseason in season 5. I expect some old mainstays in the main cast are going to bite the bullet next season. There was an awful lot of backstory the last two months, and it gets harder and harder to keep viewers emotionally invested in 12-or-so characters.

Someone on another forum mentioned that the woman serving the meat at the barbeque was wearing Beth's sweater. I haven't confirmed it yet, but it looks like it might be hers. Is she in another container? Who knows. Maybe she was the one calling out for help as Rick and the others were being herded towards the boxcars.

Kirkman seems to think they're going to do something different/unexpected with Tyreese and Carol, although I'm not sure how Rick and company are going to escape without a little help. Someone else pointed out that when Rick and the guys were showing their weapons to the Termites at first, Rick had two pistols on him at that time. When he dropped his weapons later he only had one pistol, so maybe he still has one on him?

I heard this too. He ends up at a library, but then he breaks his glasses so he can't read any of the books.

Wait...I might be getting this confused with something else.

Nevermind.

This x1000.

My main issue with the show is that the characters for the most part are so predictable and just too lame for me to care too much about their dialect.

Plus, seasons 2 and 3 just killed me with the lack of any sort of action:

Season 2: Sophia went missing and then was bitten, Dale died, Rick/Shane fight, and they have to leave the barn. Those four events took an entire season and really should have been 1/2 a season IMO.

Season 3: There was definitely some more action this season but the Andrea storyline was horribly drawn out and nothing was resolved when the season ended and the Governor was still on the loose. I felt like I watched a whole season just to see 2 characters die and nothing change with their living situation or with the Governor wanting to kill Rick. Plus the Governor being a bad guy with an eye patch just killed me.

I duno, I can see why some people like the show, but I just find the writing very predictable and the show has so much potential but it just isn't doing it for me. I've heard Season 4 is better so maybe I'll watch that and be back to hooked on the show but I don't have high hopes.

Season 4 is probably a little better than 3 was, unfortunately you're going to probably get the same feeling of plot lines being drawn out. They're going to ride this pony as long as they can, and if they rush the story they could outpace the comic and run out of ideas I guess.

If anyone is interested, I found out a few days ago you can find all the comics online for free at places like scribd.com and Youtube. Over the last two days I've read 124 Walking Dead comics, so I think I'm all caught up on those story lines. It's interesting to see how much of the comics they use and don't use. There are certainly a few things that are different between the two, yet the overall story is basically the same. Heres a link to one with the first 100 or so comics:
The Walking Dead English 1-103 | Scribd

For all those people that were disappointed in the ending scene from the TV show last weekend...I can say having read the comics now that it makes more sense. For one, the line was essentially ripped almost word from word from one of the comics, although the scene was in a slightly different setting. However, this isn't really an outlier. If a comic doesn't end with a cheesy Rick one liner, it probably ends with a bad guy one liner. Almost...every...time. So, in staying true to the comics I guess I see why they went Rambo Rick to finish the season, but obviously using a comic book ending doesn't necessarily translate to a great ending for a season finale of a tv show.

Heres some similarities between the comics and the final episode that aired last Sunday, no spoilers about upcoming stuff here if you saw the episode already:

They must have moved/deleted the other page. I found a similar one, but it didn't come from a different site. They actually had more comparisons that the first link didn't have.

Yup, pretty good opening episode. I almost wish they would do 2 hour season premier's and season/half season finales. They always seem so short.

I expect that the episodes to come will be more lack luster as usual until the one right before the break.

Man I could feel the anxiety when they were lined up at the trough ready for bleeding out. But much like when they beat the Governor, the Governor came back. Much like the guy who Rick said he was going to kill with the machete I am sure.

This will probably drag on to mid season break when they stumble into Washington, DC.

At the start of the series I would have never guessed Carol would turn into such a badass. She basically single handed (With a little walker help) took down Terminus.

Gotta say, I am a little disappointed with last night's episode. It just didn't hook me for the second half of the season.

I thought as a stand alone episode it was pretty good. Anyone know if Tyrese was written out for a reason or just the the way they are driving the TV story.

I don't know, I really liked it. It didn't necessarily advance the plot very far. (I think the next episode will do that. We'll figure out what the "wolves" are, and the plot will take off) But, I thought it was so artfully done. With Beth and the girls and other past deaths reappearing, I thought it was just really artistically impressive. Definitely an episode I'll want to rewatch.
