So just how good is this kid? Generally speaking, beating Oklahoma and Michigan for a player from Texas says some pretty good things.

I think thats a fair question. the services aren't too high on him but when I watch the film I see a long rangy S that likes to hit. I'd definitely take him and still play for another.

I think he looks like Peyton Hendrix but a bit faster. If I saw his film without the ratings I would have guessed high 4 star.

Are you fucking kidding me, Koon? Just because he is from Texas and is a safety doesn't mean he looks like Hendrix. What film are you watching, dumbass???

Lol. Someone was probably typing something like that up without the italics before you posted this.

Seriously though, IMO he hits exactly like Peyton Hendrix did in his film, but I think it's pretty obvious he's a little faster. Does anyone agree?

If this kid has the build to add some weight, he could play linebacker as well.

He sees the field. Moves well, and plays in position at safety better than some guys that have played for the Irish!

I try to avoid comparison conversations completely but I think they both run about a 4.60.

From now on, I think you're better off just stating your opinion sans the player comparison. Might save you a lot of grief! lol

Seems out of nowhere

I wouldn't say out of nowhere, simply because he did name us his leader a little bit ago, but definatly a surprise. A Texas kid with offers from OU and A&M, this is a great pickup.

Has he even visited? I know he was really high on ND, but I wasn't sure what his status really was.

Freebie via 247:

"Notre Dame did very well in the state of Texas during the 2014 recruiting cycle and it looks like things are off to a good start in 2015.

Originally reported by 247Sports national analyst Ryan Bartow, the Fighting Irish landed Dallas South Oak Cliff safety Prentice McKinney Thursday night. The 6-2, 180-pound prospect chose Notre Dame over offers from Boise State, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and others.

McKinney was first predicted to Notre Dame by Blue & Gold Illustrated on March 9. Six days ago we released a "Crystal Ball Update" article where the reason behind that prediction was shared.

"After adding an offer from the Irish Feb. 13, McKinney called it his “dream offer.” He didn’t say it was one of many big offers for him, he called it the biggest offer he had received at that point. I asked him if there was a school that he’s always wanted to hear from and if there’s a school that he’d likely commit to if had an offer from and he responded, “I already have it. It’s Notre Dame.” He admits that he hasn’t committed because he doesn’t believe in committing to a school that he hasn’t visited yet, but I think his recruitment could end shortly after his first trip to South Bend. If Notre Dame continues to pursue the impressive defensive back and defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks continues to make him a priority, the Irish could continue its hot streak in Texas dating back to the last recruiting cycle."

Earlier tonight, he made it official and pledged to Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Kerry Cooks.

Per 247Sports, McKinney is ranked as the No. 35 overall safety in the 2015 class and the No. 67 player in Texas."

This is a shocker. Like Lax, I am not sure if he has even visited yet. His school does not necessarily project well for ND either, so it seems like Joe Thomas (his mentor) did some solid recruiting work for ND here.

Yeah, as Wake said above I guess he's coming up on April 12th. I know he's said it's a dream offer and that he's super cereal about academics... so that's encouraging.

What's weird is I haven't seen a single tweet on this from anywhere but Bartow/the media (i.e. he hasn't tweeted about it, no coach has given out a cryptic tweet, etc.)
