The thing I like about a point system is that it can illustrate when recruiting dudes actually believe the info they have or if they are just betting on public opinion. The current CB doesn't do that. It rewards silly long shot picks as if those are actual opinions, not just guys taking shots in the dark for clicks.

That's why I think it should be positive AND negative points. That way they are rewarded for picking early off of their info, rewarded for holding off if they're not sure and punished for outlandish (and misleading) picks.

Right now it's just a arbitrary system that rewards recruiting nerds for promoting themselves.

I agree. You said it better then me. I was lazy. You win.

What do guys like Loy get paid? I assume Jason Sapp did not change jobs to take a pay cut. Is Loy doing exactly what the site owners want and maximizing profit for his site by drawing clicks and attention?

I do not subscribe to any sites. The way IE members could influence this is to communicate on this board which sites - if any - actually try to be honest and informative and for IE members who subscribe to these type of sites to reward them by subscribing to these sites. Money talks.

I guess I couldn't care less how optimistic Loy is. He gets and reports info very quickly on visits, and that's what I like. He usually gets a 'feel' of how it's going during the visit which is nice, then follows up the night of or day after the visit is over. He seems very connected with his info, IMO.

Jason Sapp may have been great, and when someone great is replaced, there's some people who will never be happy, no matter what. There's still some looney Packer fans that don't like Aaron Rogers because he replaced Brett.

But, w/Loy and his magical CB's, you feel like you can't get (some degree of) good info. When you're paying the recruiting sites, trust is a huge deal and appearing to throw shit at the wall just to see what sticks doesn't really engender that.

JMO, tho'. Every one of those dudes, even Jake Brown who would break news if only he didn't have so many other things going on, has better info than I could ever get.

“@AnnaHScout: 4-star RB Dexter Williams of Winter Garden, FL drops UF & UGA from favorites, & adds #Irish to his top 5"

His favorites list must vary daily. How does he drop UF from his list of favorites when they weren't listed? Just a hunch, but it seems like this kid's favorites may be the ones he's spoken to the most recently.

has it been stated who on our staff is recruiting him...would imagine that would clarify which side of the ball we're recruiting him for.

Off the top of my head, would have to guess Alford and regardless I'm 98% sure he's being recruited for RB right now.

i'll be honest and i'll prolly catch some flack for this, but i'm pretty meh on him as a RB offer. seemed to not run very physical up the middle and seemed to bounce of most of his runs to the outside where he was successful b/c he was faster than the guys on defense. yes he would be a very good home run threat for us in our offense, but if we're only recruiting 1 RB this cycle i would want it to be more of a complete package. unless the staff is searching for a simple HR guy to put in the backfield, maybe they are, but see him as being better at a wideout in college. again, i'll be the first to admit i know nothing, just telling what i saw on tape.

I think we are recruiting 2 rb's thats why we'll see guys like Williams and Lovette in one category and Brossette and Jamabo in another. So in that sense I really like Williams but I do like Lovette better. If I had a RB board Lovette would be my #1 APB and Jamabo #1 at RB.

I, for one, agree with this assessment. Stated as much in my first post of the thread. Not doubting physical abilities, just the way he runs on film.

Reminds me of Savon Huggins coming out of HS. Certainly not a bruiser, but I'd welcome his commitment with a celebratory 12 pack.

May I ask what characteristics they share that make you say this?

Fair enough

Similar speed, but big thing to me was when they cut, their bodies lean forward and keep a momentum so they're back to full speed with no effort. I love RBs that cut while falling forward, rather than try to make a fancy juke that stops all forward momentum. Similar size. If I had to pick, I'd say Huggins ran a bit stronger inside, but I don't hold that against Dexter because it seems like he wants to break it open every play. A good RB coach will teach him that being a CFB RB is about getting 4-5 yards, not 60.

Some of these kids crack me up. When asked by Luke Stampini at Florida's 247 who he likes he said OSU, UF, UGA, Miami, and USC. No mention of ND. No mention of visiting ND. He ran a 4.55 40, 4.1 shuttle, and a 44.5 vertical. Says it's really important for the teachers at the school he chooses to be on him everyday about his academics. This is starting to remind me if Mr. Hand. Academics are super important, roll tide.

I have a feeling this could be Ebenezer Ogundeko (Class of 2013) all over again if it's gonna be like this.

Just go ahead and cut him. Save yourself the aggravation.

See that is the thing. It isn't about me. I am more mildly amused by recruiting than anything.

And you said : "His favorites list must vary daily. How does he drop UF from his list of favorites when they weren't listed? Just a hunch, but it seems like this kid's favorites may be the ones he's spoken to the most recently."

I get a kick out of these kids and their self importance. Do you realize that if a "normal" person talked like what the most outrageous of these kids did, they would be diagnosed with a mood disorder?

Somewhat related expression of an opinion, or advertisement :
That is if they were sober. The truth, unlike what I have seen posted on this site is that any symptoms that are caused by use of a substance, any mood or mind altering substance, can not be used to diagnose any mental condition. And the caveat to that is that we can't really presuppose anyone's sobriety across an electronic media, unless they are Dennis Rodman, can we?
End of somewhat related expression of an opinion, or advertisement.

The point with recruiting is that the ND program has improved each year in some important respect since Kelly has been here. The roster is much stronger. The staff is better. Last year we were crushed by circumstances and injuries or we would have had a much better won-loss record than we had. One recruit, two, or five don't matter. The overall class does. And the problem with these kids that bound all over the place is the drain the are on resources. Let someone else babysit them. Concentrate on the kids with the skills and the maturity to make the difference.

What does it take "Best offer . . . Get to next level . . . Help him excel." No mention of academics; nothing but athletics.

Not sure about the scout article but there's one up on II and it basically says that Dexter has Miami as his leader but he's going to take visits quite a few different places. ND could be one of them.
