"Notre Dame did very well in the state of Texas during the 2014 recruiting cycle and it looks like things are off to a good start in 2015.
Originally reported by 247Sports national analyst Ryan Bartow, the Fighting Irish landed Dallas South Oak Cliff safety Prentice McKinney Thursday night. The 6-2, 180-pound prospect chose Notre Dame over offers from Boise State, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and others.
McKinney was first predicted to Notre Dame by Blue & Gold Illustrated on March 9. Six days ago we released a "Crystal Ball Update" article where the reason behind that prediction was shared.
"After adding an offer from the Irish Feb. 13, McKinney called it his “dream offer.” He didn’t say it was one of many big offers for him, he called it the biggest offer he had received at that point. I asked him if there was a school that he’s always wanted to hear from and if there’s a school that he’d likely commit to if had an offer from and he responded, “I already have it. It’s Notre Dame.” He admits that he hasn’t committed because he doesn’t believe in committing to a school that he hasn’t visited yet, but I think his recruitment could end shortly after his first trip to South Bend. If Notre Dame continues to pursue the impressive defensive back and defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks continues to make him a priority, the Irish could continue its hot streak in Texas dating back to the last recruiting cycle."
Earlier tonight, he made it official and pledged to Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Kerry Cooks.
Per 247Sports, McKinney is ranked as the No. 35 overall safety in the 2015 class and the No. 67 player in Texas."
