FF is a "true" RPG game. Its the puriest form of an RPG. When i was growing up i used to enjoy that style of game but i cant anymore. I think i liked the strategy aspect of it. But now its just too boring and slow. Probably has something to do with the fact i dont have unlimited time to sit an waste playing video games anymore lol. I used to love Star Wars: KOTOR and KOTOR II.

Such treachery… Ulfric Storm cloak is nothing but a war mongering murderer hell bent of twisting the simple hearts of Nords for his own personal gain. Go ahead and trade “tail tucking bastards” for regions away for a power hungry, insane, War Lord in your own backyard… just don’t come crying to us Imperials when your livestock is burnt and family lies dead in the streets!!

Ulfric seeks to unify Skyrim and ultimately drive the Thalmor out of the region. Ulfric saw the treachery of the Empire when he fought for them to liberate the Reach, only to be stabbed in the back when the Jarl. The Jarl of Markarth caved to demands by the Aldmeri Dominion that Talos worship was banned, and he gave up Ulfric to be imprisoned. All true Nords worship Talos for the god he is, it's not up to elves to decide who they can and can't worship. The White-Gold Concordat treaty between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion was a complete betrayal of the Empire's citizens.

As far as Ulfric being labeled a murderer, only to those that follow the dying Empire. Ulfric challenged High King Torygg in single combat and defeated him, which is part of Skyrim custom. When a High King is deemed unfit to rule a man may challenge him in such a way. Torygg was nothing more than a puppet king for the Empire in Skyrim. Ulfric could have claimed the throne immediately after this event, however he's willing to let the Moot decide the next king and as such he refuses to be acknowledged until the Moot meets.

If you need any further evidence that Ulfric is not the monster the Empire paints him to be, look at the Empire's own Legate Rikke. She is #2 in command of the Legion's forces, and yet as a Nord she often identifies with Ulfric's motivations and will question the Empire. She even says "Talos guide you" which is in direct violation of the White Gold Concordat. Even at the end, if you play through siding with the Empire, Rikke will be somewhat remorseful/sad when Ulfric is slain in the Palace of Kings.

Dragon Warrior was cool in 1988... but why continue to make games like that???

For me, I liked the old FF games. I grew up on them, so I guess theres the nostalgia factor. I absolutely do not like the newer games however. I've picked up the last few new ones they've released in bargain bins, and I have yet to finish either of them. Hell, the last one, XIII I think it was, I played for about 5 hours and said "Nope, this is garbage." They're just too keen on giving you nothing but FMV's these days and not enough compelling story. Half the time they make the story way too complicated too, creating all these strange creatures and verbose vocabulary terms making it difficult to follow the plot when everything is laid out in audio dialog via those FMVs. Give me old school text to follow, it plays through more like a novel that way.

I thought Final Fantasy IV, VI, and VII were some of the best games Square ever made. Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross (To a lesser degree) were also fantastic, they're all worth playing through at least once. After VII Square really started screwing with the formula and doing weird things with combat/character progression. The characters also became less memorable, and the plots all became too convoluted and forgettable. I haven't had the desire to go back and replay any of those FF games after VII, but I find I will replay I, IV, VI, and VII from time to time.

I always found it odd they named the game Final Fantasy… and then made like 25 of them…

Not a soccer fan whatsoever but me and the roommates love FIFA14. The game is about as addicting as any other game out there.

We even went so far to make a tally board for wins, loses, and goals that we hang in our living room with about 15 different names on it.

Nostalgia....??? The amount of games made in RPG genre has decreased though...

Yeah, I already mentioned it, but nostalgia is a reason I still go back to some of those early RPGs. I haven't gone back to Dragon Warrior, but it was my first RPG  I have...upsetting memories of that game. I remember when I first tried playing it I got blasted by slimes and ghosts. I had no idea what to purchase, and what little coin I did have got cut in half each time I died, compounding my problems. I got so fed up with it that I tried hiding the game behind the TV in the hopes that I would forget it existed. I eventually found the game later and gave it a second shot on a fresh file save. That ended up working out much better and I finally finished it before moving onto Final Fantasy.

The Dragon Warrior/Quest games weren't all that great though, even for an early RPG. Dragon Quest VIII on PS2 was actually one of the best products Enix probably ever made before or after the merger with Square, they pulled that one out of their ass. I kind of felt like the merger killed Square though. Their quality in games dropped severely afterwards. Maybe it was because they lost that competitive edge, who knows, but they just started putting out more and more turds once Enix was on board.

Haha. As you said, I loved Dragon Warrior back in 1988, but today...I have no desire to replay it. There are old SNES and NES games that I go back to from time to time because I felt like they are timeless, you can easily enjoy them even today. Dragon Warrior's plot is the simplest of the early RPGs, and there really isn't any character development. There really isn't a need for me to relive that. I would still vote Dragon Warrior as a great game of that era, because it was ground breaking, but not a "Greatest RPG ever" by today's standards.

I can't be the only one:

I used to love in Dragon Warrior, you find some fair maiden in some random city and she is standing against a wall... you walk up to her and keeping pressing the D pad in her direction and it makes this rhythmic "Bump, Bump, Bump.." sound...

I got me so much Dragon Warrior poon back in the day...

Last year while preparing to move, I cleaned out my Sega Gamegear/Nintendo Gameboy shoe box.

I dusted off the old Sonic games for Gamegear, and Pokemon Blue for gameboy. Then I started Fire Emblem for gameboy... talk about nostalgia.

I actually had to let it sit plugged in for a few hours before it started to charge back up. I was devastated when it didn't turn on right away thinking it was gone for good.

Yeah, but I rarely replay the first one, just IV, VI, and VII mostly. I preferred Final Fantasy I over Dragon Warrior simply because the world was twice as big, it had an airship, and you had 4 party members and larger battles. Plus there were boss fights, something Dragon Warrior really didn't have aside from the Dragon Lord.

 I had to think about this for a second, that's hilarious. I typically didn't hear that "Bump" sound over and over unless someone was blocking a door or a narrow passage way...and unfortunately that was often male NPCs.

Speaking of old systems. I have a friend who had a Ninendo Virtual Boy. He sold it last year for $200.00...... it was mint. I told his dumb ass i would have gave him $300 for it if he would have told me he wanted to sell it. I have a feeling that thing is gonna be worth thousands in 20 years.

Pokemon was my generation's "childhood" game. I was 7 when the original Red and Blue versions came out. Senior year of high school (10 years later), all of my friends bought Gameboys and Pokemon Red and Blue on ebay and we played them constantly in class. It would be the middle of English class or History and we'd all be playing Pokemon behind our backpacks. I got detention on prom night because our "dean of students" (i.e. my football coach) tried to confiscate my game and I declined.

I haven't got far into FFVIII but IX is my favorite so far. I've been looking at getting the re-releases on playstation of IV, V, and VI. VII was ruined for me when I went to a friend's house back on the day and he was playing where Aeris dies. My favorite RPG has to be The Legend of Dragoon.

I'm currently on AC3 and can't wait to be done with it. I thought about not finishing it after playing it for a couple days.

If i remeber correctly, Pokemon Red and Blue came out right before Ocarina of Time came out for N64. I remeber being in the middle of Pokemon Red, then I got OOT for Christmas and then never played Pokemon again until like the spring because i played OOT constantly. I still play OOT everyonce in a while. lol

The video game market is a fickle bitch. About 10 years ago I bought a Cheetahmen 2 for the NES for $100. It was a rare, sealed game, but it's notorious for being bugged because the developer never fully tested it before releasing the game. You can't actually finish the game. My buddy, who was also a collector at the time, thought I was stupid for paying that price. Now Cheetahmen 2 (The original, not reproductions) will go for at least 4 times that price, and sometimes in the thousands. I've also got a Caltron 6 in 1 game that my buddy picked up for me at a flea market for $5, that one goes for thousands on Ebay.

On the other hand, there are other games that were once worth serious cash and have since dwindled to nothing. Games like Chrono Trigger and Marvel vs. Capcom II used to fetch pretty good money at the turn of the millennium, and then years later they were re-released and it killed the market. Chrono Trigger on SNES has somewhat gone back up in value, but it's taken some time.

As far as Virtual Boy, who knows if it's value will go up or down. On the plus side, so many of them have turned to garbage over the years, if you have a working one you stand a chance at the value going up if it remains in working condition. On the downside, it was so unpopular you're unlikely to see a lot of people looking for one for their collections unless they absolutely must have it. You typically see values shoot up when collectors start creating a high demand for an item that's in short supply, like a Nintendo World Championship NES cart. On the other hand, you don't see too many game systems on their own that have shot up in value. Typically only rare 2nd editions, like the NES top loader, have garnered value over time.
