I don't like him either...but think he'd be a steal in the third round.

He'll be better in the pros.

Yep. Somebody will grab him fairly early - third or fourth round, I'd think - betting that his talent is unique and that they can fix his head.

It will take a good coach to get him to play with discipline rather than freestyling.

He is woefully undersized. He is too tall to play LB and too light to play DL. I am really surprised he showed up that light.

So he's lost 1" and 21 lbs. since his profile was made. Weird.

His profile was updated many times since it was first posted. I believe the 271 came from me. I got it in a PM from Alice. She frequently sent me updates before he arrived on campus regarding his physical development and weight training.

He lost the weight when he transferred, since USF played a 4-3, while ND played a 3-4, so he had to be heavier in ND's scheme. Still, 250 is very light even for a 4-3 DE.

And here I was thinking it was Longo's fault.

His weight loss didn't really have to do with scheme. It was just laziness. Several accounts of his coach talking about his lack of work ethic the year he sat out and the poor shape he was in when it came time to play.

The Jets have been lacking an OLB pass rusher for quite a few years. Someone to take over for Calvin Pace. He doesn't drop in coverage very often and is mostly just getting after the quarterback and setting the edge.
I think Aaron fits perfectly there and would love for them to take him in the mid/late rounds.

5th round steal.

What an epic disaster this kid has turned out to be. I want to say LOL, but there's really nothing funny about it. Hope he can make something out of himself in SF. I fear he won't last through his rookie season though.

If epic disaster is a 5th round pick, what are the rest of us?

Compared to his potential, his placement in the draft is based solely on his attitude and lack of maturity. Having first rounder potential and ending up in the fifth because you're, by all accounts, an a-hole is disastrous.

So if Nix falls from 1st round to 3rd, is he half of a disaster as a person? You could switch 5th round to 2nd round and Jimmy Clausen fits right in perfectly, how much of disaster is he?

I guess I'm just tired of all the god damn judging. We can stop piling on any time now. Let the kid be. He's going to a franchise that can give him everything if he wants to apply himself.

Although Aaron always struck me as too self-centered and immature to ever succeed at Notre Dame, I hope he has found a place where he can finally apply himself. I always liked Alice's refreshing honesty and the way she supported her son despite his disinclination to apply himself either on the field or off. This is his chance to provide for a mother that has always had his back. He needs to step up and be a provider for his family: his mother, the mother of his child, and his child. If he fails to step up, an opportunity has been lost for them all.

for me the AL saga is kinda 'water under the bridge' except when i think 'what could have been if he stayed at ND' and didnt go off the deep end. my thoughts are more ND-related rather than AL-related

Nice post. It's game time for Aaron, not many chances left as far as football goes. Hope he gets it now.

All I know is I am a Niners fan and it feels good to have him back. I have a feeling he will be fine. As long as he can stay away from the "off the field" issues, I think he will be a monster again. Hopefully Alice is on his hip 100% now that they can afford it!

All things considered, it seems like a pretty good situation. I don't know the ins and outs of the Niners roster, but they're a good organization. It's always better to be around winners. And being a fifth-round pick when you know you're a first-round talent can be humbling. It's an opportunity. Hope he gets his head right and has a solid career.
