Easy. Are Warren Moon (stats) and Terry Bradshaw (rings) in the Hall of Fame? Yes
Are they anywhere near the bests to ever play the game? No way.
Jeter has rings and stats. Does he belong in the hall? Absolutely. Is he one of the best ever? I say no.
**This is another problem I have with baseball and the hall of fame. A player is largely rewarded for longevity, which is mush easier to do in a less physically demanding sport like baseball. A guy can put up decent stats every year, largely be an afterthought or "yeah, that guy was ok," but when it's all said and done, his career numbers cause many to believe he is a HoFer.
I used to think the same thing, but you can't be average and have a long career. It may be less demanding physically then football, but the mental aspect of having to get up for a game damn near every day has to be taxing.
I do think the baseball HOF admits guys that weren't deserving.
