Three ND commits will be participating in USA Football's International Bowl in Arlington, TX next week. The players are LB Nile Sykes, LB Greer Martini and DL Jay Hayes. They will arrive this weekend and stay through National Signing Day where they will sign their LOIs to ND as part of USA Football's NSD breakfast at Cowboy Stadium.

The game vs. Canada's U19 National Team is on Friday, February 7. More info here: International Bowl | February 7th & 8th, 2014 | Arlington, Texas.

Stephon Tuitt, both Atkinsons, Anthony Rabassa, Matt Hegarty and Devin Butler have all participated in this event before (formerly vs. the IFAF World Team). Folston, Bivin and Smythe have participated in the Team USA program, but not this game.

It's another opportunity to see how our guys perform against some of the best recruits in the country. I haven't seen any mention of this on IE yet, so thought I'd start a thread to discuss.

Also saw that Charles Nelson is on the roster. Too bad my inlaws will be in town, or I'd make the drive over.

Canada won the last meeting with Folston, Bivin and Smythe on the roster for Team USA. I think USA smokes them this time though.

I'm not going say that Canada is on par with USA. That would be obscene, but the game has really been growing nicely in the last 5-10 years. There are 10x more high school teams as there used to be 10 years ago when I was in high school. They even have it in elementary school now a days. My little brother has been playing football since he's 9. That's crazy for us. I will be bringing him to the ND camp this summer. I might be more excited about it than him lol.

No doubt, the game is growing in Canada, as evidenced by Canada's victory over Team USA the last time they met.

I should have explained why I think Canada will get smoked this time though. My friends up north tell me Canada doesn't care if they win or lose, they are using this as a tryout for the U19 team that will travel to Kuwait this summer for the U19 World Championship. Team USA on the other hand will likely be looking to avenge their previous loss, albeit with different kids that weren't part of the last game. I just think the USA will be taking it more seriously and looking to win, whereas Canada doesn't care about the outcome this time around. They'll care this summer though.

Are the rosters posted anywhere? I doubt Michael O'Connor is playing for Canada since he enrolled early so maybe Merchant is going to be the QB?

Edit: Just saw the US roster at the bottom of the page but Canada's isn't there

All three ND signees will be starting in tomorrow's game. Hayes at DE, Martini at ILB and Sykes at OLB. Martini was selected as a team captain by the coaching staff.

Sweet. I might watch it with my little brother. There are 3 guys on Canada's team that went to my high school. Pretty good players from what he's telling me. They will all probably play for the hometown university. Laval University. 9 National Championships appearances since 99, 8 which are wins.

It's the Alabama of Canada, haha.

I remember the NY Giants last year drafted a guy, who played college ball in the US, but was from Germany. Markus something or other. I only guess he played in HS over in Germany, but don't know.

This may be a total dumbass question, but do the Canadian high schoolers play straight American football? I assume it isn't the Canadian football that the Stampeders play, but wondered if it was some hybrid.

Markus Kuhn,
Football in europe isnt played by high schools (bar one league which has some International (American) schools and some military base schools (also American). Its mainly a club sport.

High schoolers play canadian rules football; 3 downs, wider field, 5 yards of space for the punt returner.

It's cool and all, but after a while, you want those 4 downs of football. I mean, I didn't mind myself cause I played defense and less offensive snaps the better, but if you're team can't move the ball on offence, you end up with lame scores like 7-0, 7-3, or 3-0. Hell we almost had a game end 0-0 if not for a last minute safety... Lol

Greer Martini is massive. SAM or DE in his future IMO.

Greer is all of 6'3" and maybe on his way to 6'4". He's a lot skinnier than I thought he'd be, but definitely has a great frame to grow into. I think he could play any of the LB spots, but I'd be really surprised if he ever moved to DE.

On the other hand, Hayes is definitely not the 6'5" I've seen him listed as. Sykes is probably 6'1"-6'1.5". I don't think he's 6'2".

But, speaking of massive, Montel McBride is MASSIVE. Craig Evans is also a big boy.
