For how low he is rated he has some nice offers (Texas, Ohio St, Oklahoma and Oregon).

I wonder if the staff doesn't feel confident with Sawyer and Cage.

They must not. And neither do I ... it does sound like both are leaning toward other schools (Ole Miss and MSU).

ALL THE DTs! I wonder if the staff doesn't feel confident with Sawyer and Cage.

Thought the same thing, but maybe the staff is fed up with not making it to 85 and wants to fill up. Saving schollies for later hasn't worked with us in the past so I'm good with this. Plus, if we go 4-3, we could use some more DTs.

Love his highlights. May be the best of the recent DT offers. Also, St. Augustine's defense looks ridiculous.

I caveat my comment with........I don't really know JACK about the ins and outs or recruiting......

But are all those offers actionable? Could he be a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th choice for some of those schools? Just a guess.

Staff has been trying to get in touch with him for a couple months. Huh?

Elston visiting tomorrow to finalize plans, academics are important to him, Christian feels like ND has a real shot despite getting involved in a less than timely fashion.

According to II we have been calling him for a couple weeks and he missed the calls and is just now getting back in touch.

If we're going 4-3 we need twice the DT's. More our depth is precariously thin in a year or two. I doubt most of these guys are expected to be full go next year. Red shirt them, acquaint them w/Longo, and teach them the playbook.

I see this as BVG looking at tapes of the "potential recruits" and seeing football players he'd like to have. I think Diaco paid too much attention to measurables, and BVG looks at tapes and evaluates the intangibles with as much weight as size and reported speed. I like this, not only does it open up our pool of targets but a lot of the stand out players happen to be atypical for their position size. Just my opinion

It seems like BVG looked at the 24/7 DT rankings and went down the list, offering every uncommitted DT that ND hadn't already tried to recruit. Obviously this isn't really the case, but it may as well have been with the offers that went out the past few weeks. I like that they've cast a wide net in a short period of time to try and get to 85. It will be interesting to see what BVG's approach is with the 2015 class.

Yes and no. If we move to a 4-3 some of our DEs will move to DT. Day, possibly Rochell, Hounshell if he is healthy, etc. Also Jay Hayes from this class probably becomes a DT then as well.

Yep. Different coaches. Different needs. Different philosophies.

Most of the DTs BVG has offered are more of the typical playmaking DTs. The DTs Diaco was after are space eaters and not the "get up the field" type.

I think it was part of the problem with the defense the last couple years, is that ND put too much stock into their DEs/CATs. Now, KAP, Tuitt, Lynch, Day, Ishaq, Shembo proved they could get to the QB, but not at consistent level where they could afford to not have a DT that could get up the field. Nix could do that, but overpowering a double team on pass plays just isnt going to work sometimes.

The 2014 has pass rushers off the edge, and now you are seeing a wave of DTs that can get up the field.

I had always said DT wasnt a need when Diaco was here, and by the recruiting offers, it was evident he felt that the players he had coming in, and on the roster could fill Nixs role. Now with BVG you can see they are already recuriting more aggressive Dline players.

How would you rank our 3 DT prospects, Garnett, Cage, and Sawyers?

Getting two Louisiana kids like Alexander and Garnett would be nice. A state where we ought to get a couple of kids now and then.
