II reporting Kelly and Cooks in home will be on Tuesday and that no visit to Texas has been scheduled by Hill. Hopefully we lock this thing up Tuesday.

imo he doesn't need to see texas on an official visit...this would be one to worry about til the letter is faxed in regardless if he takes that visit this week or not...probably a statement that goes without saying

He's yet to meet any of the new coaching staff. I'd say a visit is necessary in this case. So far all he's done is talked to a coach by phone.

To add onto this, ISD reported that he told ND coaches that he will not visit Texas. Most of the sky is falling panic seems to be derived from the Texas side of things with some mods reporting stuff like "99.9%"... so we'll have to see how this all unfolds over the next 10 days.

i hear that, but can't a lot of those circumstances be solved with a visit to the school/home.

yes an official would make a lot of sense, but i don't think that he has to definitely visit Austin in order to sign with them.

He doesn't have to visit. But assuming he's been invited for an OV, not taking one would seem to be a good sign for us. Not like it's some complicated trip for him. This'll go down to the wire, and could certainly go against us in the end, but it seems like the "slam dunk for Texas" talk is mostly coming from those who think Austin is the end-all and be-all. Have a little faith.

I always roll my eyes at the sky is falling mentality, but I have to admit I couldn't help but to feel like Hill was gone when it was reported that (1) he got an offer and (2) had already begun planning an OV. Perhaps I misheard, but it felt downright Mokwuah-esque.

To hear otherwise certainly is a (momentary) relief.

in fairness Texas has given a masterclass in how to botch a recruitment with Hill

I've been saying all along he sticks and I haven't seen anything to indicate that he won't.
1. Trying to sell a kid over the phone is not going to do the trick. They need to be in his home like BK is doing this week.
2. Even if Alaka did flip, this kid has to see that UT looks at him as if he's a last resort to fill a need.
3. Hard to establish a relationship with a kid in two weeks.

Locked and loaded.

People need to chill with labeling doubters as mere "sky-is-falling" apostolates.

It's not unreasonable to predict that an official visit to a school he grew up loving spells big trouble.

With that said, I like the latest news about the scheduled ND in-home, and more importantly, no OV set up with Texas as of now.

That's great news.

ISD update- Kelly and Cooks will visit tomorrow night and have been in Texas since Sunday. They've been in constant communication since the Texas offer and feel confident they will hold onto him.

I know they didn't get in on him until very late, but would be amazing to beat Texas for a Texas-born kid.

We've surprisingly won a lot of heads up battles with Texas recently. Not so much luck with A&M.

With Texas, we flipped Durham Smythe last year. This year we beat them out for Watkins (even with a late push from Strong). Overall impressive job for some quality prospects. Kerry Cooks earning that paycheck for sure.

Forgot about those guys. Esepcially Smythe ha completely forgot him. Just seems like we're getting more of a fight this time with Hill and its nice to see us hold our own down in Texas.

We've done well with kids from Texas lately. Hunter Jr, C. Robinson, Baratti, Cam, Blankenship are all from Texas too. We've certainly lost a few we wanted but to see the success we are having is a huge deal.

That's probably one reason Brown is gone. He's energy has waned the last few years, while Strong is ready to go being he's new on the job.

If Texas had offered at the same time as ND, Hill would probably be a Longhorn. So, I don't know if you can really say we beat them. Hopefully Texas started the race too late.

I agree with you 99% of the time, but this is the 1%.

Recruiting is about talent identification and luring them to your school. So in the case of identification, there is no question that ND beat Texas here. Now, we can say the change in coaching staff precipitated that, which would be an accurate point. However, timing is everything in life so I am going to give the nod to ND here.

Coach Cooks is a stud. He's been doing some good work down in Texas.
