Even playing as little D as we are, you'd think they'd miss a few shots. What is it now, like 9 in a row (and some contested 3's in there).

Ya know, the chances are low that FSU is going to continue this hot shooting. They'll eventually go cold for a bit, ND may have a shot.

They still need to play defense though.

It's damn near impossible to get a charge call with the rule change, and they give one to the 7'3" kid.

Wow we're really not taking advantage of some of the opportunities they're giving us. Still, for how cold Connaughton is tonight, this isn't a terrible performance. Happy to see we're outrebounding them

If you'd tell me Florida State would shoot 58% from the field, and Pat C would be 2-10'ish, yet we'd only be down 2 with 1:30 to go, I'd call you a liar.

Why Sherman would be in on the last play on defense is mind-boggling.

It's the little things that win you games and the missed FT's, missed bunnies in the first half and the ill-advised plays cost ND tonight, like they have in all their losses. I give the team a ton of credit coming back tho, that shows heart and toughness. Hopefully they can parlay that moving forward.

How many points do you think Grant is worth to this team? 5? 7?

I know it's a bad way to look at it, but ACC losses of 7, 5, 8, and 2 aren't my idea of a good season. haha

I was just thinking that. As "bad" as we think we've been, we're in every game. We're a DJ or Auguste away from being actually a pretty decent team.

And what happened to Burgett? I thought he had a decent first half, and I'm not sure he sniffed the floor in the second.

This season is like a train wreck. I know it's a disaster but I can't stop watching.

They're soft. They need to recruit a couple bangers down low.

Is it me or should a player of DJ's caliber be getting more than two shots??? I wasn't able to check the game out, but it seems like he never shoots more than 6 times a game, yet is on the court for 75% of the game? He's got the talent to create off the dribble and find his own shot...is it just brey's system because this isn't making much sense to me?

Another close loss as even the NIT seed is starting to slip. Jackson with 0 shot attempts, Sherman destroyed in the post again by another athletic yet average big man, Beachem gets his first important minutes after sitting against the likes of Delaware and Bryant and looks like a middle school player. Is there any coaching on this team? This is depressing.

I think a winning record is becoming less and less likely.

vs Virginia - L
vs Boston College - W
at Syracuse - L
vs North Carolina - ?
vs Clemson - L
at Boston College - W
at Miami - ?
at Virginia - L
vs Georgia Tech - ?
vs Pittsburgh - L
at North Carolina - ?

That's 13-14 with four toss up games. The beginning of ACC play (NCSU/GT/MD/VT/etc) was the chance to get some good momentum. This season will crash and burn.

The depressing part is looking at next season and not seeing the post players needed to be any good.

Why does Mike Brey still have a job?

The last line is about where I'm at now as well. I have supported Brey in the past, but it's getting tough to do so anymore. And I know it's tough losing your leading scorer, but watching this team play is absolutely infuriating. And what's even more depressing is that it looks like it's going to get way worse before it will get better. Next year will be seriously painful with zero inside presence. Not that it can be much worse than it is right now.

There are some reports that Burgett may be out for the season also. I was shocked to hear about his heart condition, I really hope the kid gets better soon for his overall health.

In the long run, this is a product of both our own undoing and bad luck. Our 5th year seniors are Tom Knight and Sherman. Sherman transferred into the program yet for some reason Cooley did not redshirt his freshman year and we didn't get him back. Our only true Senior is EA because Grant is suspended and Dragicevich transferred. Our only Junior is Connaughton because of Katenda's freak injuries and difficult transition. Now our only Sophomore is Zach Auguste because Burgett has another freak condition and Biedscheid transferred after we redshirted him. Programs don't simply survive things like this, at some point you need to have more depth built into the program.

I was sad to see that we only signed two men for this class. Part of the problem is the number of available scholarships, but we need to start bringing in 3-4 guys a class that are good fits for the program, not just highly rated recruits. Good basketball programs are built by getting guys who fit your system. How the hell is Wichita State #5 in the nation and Wisconsin #9? They get guys who are going to either redshirt and stick around the program for 5 years or play the style of basketball that is best for them to succeed right away. Time for Swarbrick to examine our program and see whether or not we are going in the right direction as we begin our time in the ACC.

This.

I get that Notre Dame is not Duke. But there is no reason that the program cannot be a top 15 program. How do teams like Pittsburgh, Xavier, etc continually have better seasons than Notre Dame? Especially Xavier, they lose a coach every five years and reload.

I'd like to see the basketball program get much more attention from Swarbrick. Get a coach who has proven himself to be able to reach the Sweet Sixteen frequently. Schedule some games--if not full-blown rivalries--with Southern Cal, Stanford, Michigan State to create national attention. If the Shamrock Series is in November, the basketball team should be there playing a sizable match up too (i.e. play Arizona State in Dallas the night before). When the football team ends the season in Los Angeles or Palo Alto, the basketball team should be there playing Southern Cal/Stanford too. To me it just doesn't seem so hard to do. Go get a coach who can win and start to build some excitement.

Who would you want him to be replaced by?

Any mid major coach that has overachieved in the NCAA tournament recently (including in this upcoming tournament) or any assistant that has been with Duke, Michigan St., or a similar respectable school (not Kentucky) for 5+ years.

I'll name names if you really want me to

Shaka Smart, Josh Pastner, Buzz Williams, Chris Mack?

Shaka Smart in particular played at Kenyon College (a fantastic liberal arts school) and his wife went to Harvard. He gets the importance of education. Plus it's not like his teams at VCU are full of one-and-dones either. From what I know of him, that sounds like a winner.
