That will be a failure in DC if he is hired!

As a Vikings fan I would be happy if they got Zimmer.

I'd be surprised if Jim Caldwell ever got another head job in the NFL. Well, surprised if he ever got another head job in the NFL....not from Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder.

WOW

Surprising considering their AD said they would name a new coach "within days" as of yesterday. If Roman did well there all NFL teams would be coming after him just like O'Brien.

I've heard Tommy (and somebody else on here?) say that the AD at Louisville doesn't want Petrino. Weird.

Jurich brought Petrino in for his first run. Also, Jurich is considered one of the best, most respected, and powerful AD's in the country. I know UofL fans love him. Hard to believe if he were against hiring Petrino, the boosters wouldn't have his back.

Something seems strange in all this.

Greg Roman would be a laughably bad hire for Penn State (unless there was some buyout clause with a nuclear deterrent). If he won games, he'd leave for the next NFL job he could get it. If he lost, then he'd be a mediocre OC who would do poor on the recruiting trail.

Apparently things "didn't go well" last night re: Penn State according to FootballScoop. I am guessing Franklin said no or is asking for too much and PSU wants to call his bluff.

The word in Nashville is that teams (particularly PSU) may be a little hesitant to hire a guy who will be brought up (his former school) in the coming months for an awful rape trial.

As it stands, it seems Franklin didn't have much to do with it all...just that it happened under his watch. So at a place like PSU, any degree of "guilt by association" may be something they want to distance themselves from.

Franklin's name isn't toxic or anything along those lines (he's no Petrino, O'Leary, etc.), it's just one possible thing for a potential new employer to consider if/when hiring him.

Not surprised, Franklin is an arrogant dumbass and PSU seems pretty delusional in their own right. Probably would have been good reality TV, even though I hate that stuff.

Franklin got his eye on bigger and better things? NFL? Potential opening next year (Florida?)

PSU is going from being set on a "Peterno Man" to, "just find someone, who knows someone, who knew Joe Pa,... that is also willing to work here."

^ Sorta this.

The dude is going to leave Vandy. He has an ENORMOUS ego (in a profession full of enormous egos, his still stands out). I think if PSU offered a lot of money, plus full control, he'd take it. Or if school ___, offered him the same, he'd take it (assuming he believes it is a better job than Vanderbilt). I think he's, more or less, a mercenary at this point-- waiting to see what offer he likes best...this year, or next.

His name has surfaced for NFL jobs (although I'm not sure how seriously-- probably like BK's name being mentioned for the Lions' job...just some dude throwing it out there), so I know that's stroking his ego even more. He may just play the odds and hold out for a job next year, as there are bound to be good ones become available-- Florida?, South Carolina?, UCLA?, Michigan?, Unforeseen Schools X, Y, and Z.
