thing that worries me is that this is going to be the first time in the BK era that our defense is going into the season without superstar power.

we had manti for the first 3 years and then stephon and big lou this year...we will go into 2014 with a lot of guys that would be considered role players. don't get me wrong i still think our defense has the chance to be very good, but to be very good we're going to need more than one guy stepping up to the plate and starting to play more like superstars and not just guys that are there to do there jobs

Manti was not a superstar as a sophomore. If you consider Manti to be a superstar as a sophomore, then Jaylon is a superstar now.

Definitely see what you're saying but I think Russell and Smith will make a much bigger star impact than I guess some people expect them to. That, and Tuitt and Nix underperformed a bit this year (based on sky high expectations and injuries). I think the defense will be improved

guess i could agree with that...manti had kind of that aura around him that made him a superstar that you're right you could also argue jaylon will go into 2014 having

hope he turns it up in 2014

Hamilton is such a douche. Good luck to Tuitt, hope he puts on a show at the combine and works his way to the top half of the first round.

Yeah, why give quote to Hamilton? WTF?

I was stoked to see Hamilton off the ND beat... or is he still on it with SI? Guy is literally one of the bigger ND haters out there. It will be nothing but great to have him away from the program.

Three picks in the 1st Round would be the most since 1994.

Compare him and clowney just stats sophomore year.

Tuitt-47 tackles 13 for loss 12 sacks

Clowney-54 tackles 23 for loss 13 sacks.

IMO bad decision!

don't speak from the heart...i wanted him back too, but he got a 2nd round grade with a VERY good chance to work his way into the 1st round and like it was stated has a great chance to be picked up by a contender

Can anyone really blame him for going pro? I can't. He battled through an injury, and weight issues because of it. He watched Nix get hurt, he watched KAP get hurt last year, he watched Spond retire, he watched Watt get hurt, he watched Council and Grace go out with season ending injuries---and how can we blame him?

Manti and Eifert it worked out for, but I think he made the right decision. Selfishly I wanted him to stay, because we are better with him than without. Now we don't have a hole, we have a grand canyon type emptiness without him and Nix.

Good luck, thank you Tuitt for choosing ND!

Next man up!

Don't claim to be a draft expert, and know he'll go pretty high, but I can't help but feel he'd benefit from another year here.

To play devil's advocate, Kelly's job is to win football games, not be a pro football factory. Will Muschamp churns out a lot of draft picks but he is still a terrible coach for Florida.

I agree with Lax on the point that this team now has to be 4 down lineman and 3 backers vs 3 lineman and a lb..on most downs

Having three players drafted in the first round is huge for recruiting, which leads to winning games. It's no coincidence that elite recruits with NFL aspirations go to Bama and USC.

Can't be mad at him. It is the right move for him and his family. Looking forward to following his career in the NFL.

I mean, I love having high draft picks and I do think it's good for the program, but it's nothing to hang a coach's hat on. Same thing with recruiting as we saw with Charlie Weis.

Would not be upset at all if the Giants took him at #12. Especially if Tuck leaves.

I don't think Kelly hangs his hat on high draft picks. He's done a pretty good job thus far showing guys why they should stay. (Tuitt's his first player to leave before his natural senior year, yes?) But if they're good and drafted high, it certainly doesn't hurt on the recruiting trail.

Same. Would love to see him in a Giants uniform next year.
