So funny when he was talking about Nelson...

"Dude, you too big to be touching me. Huge..."

Something I have noticed with twelve front seven defensive players this year; ND can play any front they want next year. But with mix, it looks like a more aggressive defense may be in order. Two gappers are in short order aren't they?

Great add to a nice incoming class. Hope our D evolves into a truely dominating group that dictates games.

Lol at Yeargin at the end. Nyles seems like a cool kid. Glad he's Irish. We are going to have a ton of flexibility at LB for next 4 years.

More talkative and outgoing than I thought he would be considering he doesn't smile for pictures.

Like Texas A&M? Kentucky? Auburn? Georgia? Mississippi State? Tennessee? Vanderbilt? Ole Miss?

I could've been more specific but to be fair you picked some of the worst defenses in the conference. South Carolina, LSU, Alabama, Florida and Georgia consistently field fast, stout, and aggressive defenses. Year after year the best defense will be played in that conference. Doesn't mean best teams but best defense. I'll add that teams like Georgia and Florida have exceptional athletes on D but that doesn't necessarily translate to keeping the points down. Poor coaching, being too aggressive, not assignment sound can all lead high scores. We need to at least keep getting the athletes to start with.

I wouldn't say that the best defenses were in the SEC this year. Only 2 SEC teams were in the top 10 in total defense. I don't think the SEC had any defense that was nearly as good as MSU, Stanford or FSU.

Just compare what Tex A&M did to Alabama and Auburn, vs. what they did to Duke. Not much difference.

Funny, Mississippi State was 18th in YPG and Georgia was 45th in the country. So you're both right and wrong.

But the SEC defense mantra is slowly dying. Alabama and LSU always get the top tier defensive talent in the south, so regardless of the overall SEC defense; the rest of the conference looks much better when these teams field the best defenses. Fans and media have done a good job at lumping all the teams together and tying them to the top team.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't remember South Carolina having great defense before a certain all-world DE showed up.

I just hate labeling things as "SEC" quality, when half the conference is garbage at a minimum.

Over the last decade, teams like Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Southern Cal, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State, Virginia Tech etc etc etc all have put out terrific defenses too. It's just not the SEC.

Agree to a point. Carolina has always had a pretty solid defense under Stevie. What they have lacked is a QB that could run his offense. Shaw was the closest thing he had but couldn't stay healthy. As far as the SEC defenses being down... no doubt they have went backwards to a degree. Losing so many underclassmen to the draft has created a void somewhat. If they would stick around I think we would see dominating defenses similar to what we have seen in the recent past.

great point....have never figured out how spurrier can't bring in elite offensive skill players on a consistent basis

They get there fair share of quality 4 star RB's and WR's. they've also had some really good ones. Marcus Lattimore and then Mike Davis at RB for the last 4 years. Alshon Jeffrey and Ace Sanders at WR.

wow....you're right i remembered jeffery and latimore, but forgot those other two.

lack of elite stability at QB is killing that program.

they've had championship defenses more than once the past decade

Yea, there QB recruiting has not been good. Some of the names they've brought in I have never heard of. Shaw just isn't going to help make WR's look good.

Trumbetti has to see the field some how. Just seems wierd not having him in the two deep. Don't know if he will be big enough to play 3-4 DE by next year. Overall he's my second rated recruit behind Morgan[/QUOTE]

RESPECT THE O LINE!!!!

I agree that Rochelle starts. Another year in the system I think he'll surprise us next year. Moore will never be MLB in any alignment. MLB needs to call the shots and that's his weakness

Probably right. Can flip Moore and Grace in my lineups though. Edited it.

After that it gets kinda fuzzy for me. I see them has our 3 elite recruits

I'd add Bars to that list after Nelson personally. But yeah after that idk probably Watkins I guess.

I'd go Morgan, Nelson, Trumbetti, Bars, Weishar, Brent, Dickerson, and Hayes. Those are the guys who have the highest floors IMO.

I love the upside of Jhonny Williams and the relentlessness of Kolin Hill as well. Really rooting for those guys.

I think we have 4 elite recruits, the 3 you listed and I would add Brent. He is already physically ready and with him being an EE, he has more than enough time to get the playbook down. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if he starts against Rice

1. Nelson
2. Morgan
3. Watkins
4. Bars
5. Brent

I'd put it at

1. Nelson
2. Morgan
3. Brent
4. Watkins
5. Bars

I honestly think Brent will leapfrog the Sophmore receivers next season, and maybe even Brown as the #2 receiver. Him being an EE will do wonders for him.
