UPS Hater has to be loving every minute of this... lol
I am. I will love it more when PSU becomes a B1G doormat.

Typically, one doesn't say "you can print this" to a reporter when speaking off the record. I think what was off the record is the information that he was looking for another coaching position and wanted out of Dodge.
There were some Penn State fans that thought O'Brien would be around forever and groom a dozen Tom Bradys and win championships. Those were few and far between though, and typically the kind of people who grew up indoctrinated that PSU is the greatest school ever in the greatest place ever and nothing compares to Happy Valley. Every school has a small percentage of these people.
Let's get this over with. Time to hire Jay Paterno as the new head coach. If we are willing to give an outsider heretic the job (BO'b), why not somebody who understands what Penn State is?
I really never thought O'Brien should have been hired in the first place. He isn't from Penn State, doesn't care and never will care about PSU or any College football. He used PSU to get what he wanted a head coach job in the NFL it doesn't even matter to him that its with a team worse than Buf. And the BOT let him use the school justso they could stick it to JoePa one last time. You may not like that all Joe did was tell his boss whatsomeone else told him. But that is all he is required to do, and once sandusky left his coaching staf, it was the school that kept letting him on campus not Joe.
Probably a joke said:Seriously now...shouldn't they hire Jay Paterno to be the HC? He gets that who "Success with Honor" thing*. It would keep Franco happy. Some happy valley printer will make loads of cash making JayPa cardboard cut outs. Lubrano would be happy when Jay calls for the wins to be restored and demands PSU rescind the consent decree. Paternoville could be re-instated. All they have to do is find some competent assistant coaches to help Jay. It's a win-win for everybody.
Maybe it has to deal with the fact that the NCAA imposed sanctions that were outside their jurisdiction? Child molestation is a legal issue, not an NCAA issue. The Sandusky Trial was held in a court of law, not by an NCAA Review Board. This had nothing to do with recruiting, finances, academic standards, etc.
So Bill F'ing O'Brien didn't f'ing like being a f'ing football coach! Who knew? You'd think the search committee that hired him would have asked him that at some point. He didn't like Penn State, he didn't like the fans, he didn't like the administration, he didn't like the whole scene. He didn't believe a single f'ing word of anything he said the last two years. Maybe that's why he left -- it was exhausting to have to lie like that every day of the week and pretend he wanted being Penn State's football coach.
These are the PSU fans I love said:Paterno-haters like the NCAA, Spanier, and their ilke can take a long walk on a short pier. They can live in denial of Joe’s “larger-than-life” accomplishments as a man and as a coach, but they can’t re-write history – we will never let them.
I love the falsely slandered reputation of JoePa said:Oh, brother Jones, you set up a straw man about some fictitious "Paterno People" and then pat yourself on the back when it gets a rise out of O'Brien? Also pretending that somehow as a media person you're going to be his "confidant"? Your ego is showing. Any people I know that are fighting to rectify the falsely slandered reputation of Joe Paterno are ALSO the ones who went to all the games these past two years and supported O'Brien and the team with no reservations. Get over yourself.
JoePa stated that Sandusky no longer worked for him or the university. A man of Paterno's integrity and character who definitively hears of a crime does not say he is unsure how to proceed. He would alert authorirties. But, given the many versions of the story that McQ has authored, and given that the story in 2001 was almost assuredly different than the one delivered 10 years later in 2011, one cannot be sure what Paterno was told in 2001. Evidence strongly suggests that a criminal act was not described to Paterno. A man and a boy showering together, although it is very unusual to most of us, is not a crime. It's a simple as that. Paterno's comment that you continually cite was influenced by a meeting with MCQueary in 2001 prior to Paterno testifying to the grand jury.
I guess I’m one of those "Paterno people" that Jones implied O’Brien didn’t care about. So Coach, go ahead: put your fist through that windshield. At one point, we were all Paterno people. If you don’t care what JVP’s supporters think of the program, then you never got what Penn State is about.
We will never know if Joe did anything wrong as he will never be charged or put on trial.
The man from Massachusetts left Penn State’s football program in a much better place than where it was two years ago. What a crock! He took the job for money. O’Brien went from chump change to millions without a worry if he won or lost. JoePa’s recruits made O’Brien look good and he got lucky and moved on before his luck ran out.
He left Penn State in a better place? Penn State wasted millions and he lied to the recruits, fans, and himself.
The Civil War at PSU said:The Penn State Rivals.com page is just exploding. The venom is STAGGERING. Its like a PSU civil war, except there is nothing civil about it. Miami's site is lamenting Al Golden to enter the PSU sweepstakes in spite of a 9 win season under a cloud of possible NCAA sanctions. Does anyone wonder if the NCAA is looking at PSU, now, and saying, "this program has its perspective back"? The Rivals main page is just ripping PSU. While I agree that there are NFL teams wallowing in ineptitude(Clevelend, Tampa, NYJets), PSU has become, once again, the laughing stock.
This is just hilarious said:Our Dear Leader says 'good riddance' to the traitor Bill. PSU must act quickly and decisively with preciseness motions. Lubrano, Millen and Franco must seize control of the BoT, send Joyner to a work camp (along with all his family) and install the only true and just and appropriate person to lead PSU back to victory: Jay Paterno.
Our Dear Leader is sending a crack team of statue erection specialists to Happy Paterno Valley to reinstall your Dear Leader's statue.
Remember: True effective leadership is inherited.
The article was based off a conversation he had with a trusted reporter off-the-record. The writer also agreed to not write the article until O'Brien made a decision on his future.
Seems like it was just a case of BOB venting about some of his frustrations. I'm sure Kelly has vented off-the-record about some of the things that go along with ND as well.
Whether he was voicing his frustrations or not, were they not legitimate? If they weren't concerns, why did he say them? Also, he told the reporter after he was done venting that he was not leaving. Then again, it appears he's leaving after all. Granted, he was going to the NFL eventually, he wasn't going to stick around like Paterno, but I'm sure the fans made the decision and easy one.
"I was not at liberty to quote him then because the dialogue was agreed upon to remain strictly off the record."
Another quote from the article:
"I didn’t print the quote right away, either. I did him a favor there. I thought it reflected momentary rage that I had partially induced from my own perception and it wasn’t quite fair."
Doesn't get more clear than that IMO.
But now that O’Brien has left and people want to know why, I think it makes sense to print it. It helps explain.
Everyone has concerns / frustrations about their job. Not sure what your point is here.
Regardless, I think Paterno supporters had little to no impact on his decision to leave. He was offered the NFL job he wanted and he took it. He's acting in self-interest like everyone else.
My coworker who pays very close attention to PSU football firmly believes it will be Al Golden.
Why would Al Golden leave? Look, I know he played at PSU, yadda yadda. He's got a better job in Miami in a prime recruiting location. He's got a better shot at winning anything important at Miami. Just my opinion.
Most people don't have to deal with the zombie JoePa cult in addition to their normal jobs of preparing a football team, however. I'm just trying to say that the vocal number of JoePa supporters, even if they're not the majority, were enough to help push BOB to the NFL sooner than expected. It was inevitable, but he probably could have parlayed the reduced sanctions into a better record in the coming years and a better job than the Texans.
I am. I will love it more when PSU becomes a B1G doormat.
I'm with you there!
My coworker also says that Franklin is the other choice, but that it will be Golden.
Yeah, I totally understand what you're saying. I just disagree with the impact that Paterno loyalists ultimately had when it comes to this decision to go to the Texans. Also, I think the Texans is a great NFL job. They were expected to compete for a SB this year, have tons of talent, and the number 1 pick. It's the ideal NFL job IMO.
i definitely think they go with a Paterno Man
Then Franklin likely heads to Miami, IMO.
It's Jay Paterno
Apparently a lot of discussions between Texas and Jim Mora... would laugh my ass off at Vanderdoes if this happens.
Then Franklin likely heads to Miami, IMO.
