I like his confidence i just hope he doesn't get cocky and let his head get to big.

That being said i do like KR. He tackles well, He plays hard, and does cover well.

saved his best game of the year for last for sure. HUGE difference in terms of Rutgers' stud receiver's production when he was going against KR compared to BJ.

Definitely a good game today.

remember he is only in year 2 of being a corner. I believe it was done really close to the beginning of last season.

I am really, really happy he chose us over Washington. We got a gem!

Was at the game and thought he deserved the MVP (not to discount Martin's play). Had 3 huge pass breakups that I can remember, including 2 in the end zone. That doesn't even include the interception. Whale of a game.

for being two years implemented to the position--KR is a stud to be if not already.
i like his talent and appreciate his swagger. theres a big difference, yet a fine line, between the two.

KR will be dominant no doubt, i just hope whoever fills in at CB2 dosen't end up as Gary Gary 3.0

Irish youngsters show glimpses of what 2014 may hold

Really like his confidence:

Russell is going to shine next year.

Yeah, I loved that quote, I was just coming here to post this myself  I like how it mentions that Bennett got burned twice by Coleman, Russell said his line, and then Coleman was shut down for the rest of the game. Russell is on fire, he was absolutely shut down the entire game. They tried to attack him early, and they quickly backed off because he destroyed everything that came his way. I can't remember the last time we've had a better corner in all honesty. Didn't he go back last season and was picking the brains of the players that came before him for tips? The kid is smart, and driven. The article said he wants to come back and be the best corner in the country. I think he can do it. Someone tell Jesse Palmer that Bennett Jackson was not better than Russell last year!

You have no doubts? None?

He's been pretty lights out all season, and I don't recall him getting beat too often last season either, but my memory isn't that great at times. Hell, a lot of teams didn't even try to throw his way, and when they did it usually ended up with a deflection it seems. When we did get beat in the secondary it was usually Bennett or a Safety issue.

I just pray the coaches dont crown him a preseason All American at the end of camp, because that seems to be the kiss of death! See B. Jackson and G. Gray

I'm not sure if Russell will have as good a season next year % wise, but I expect him to still be pretty good. The only reason he could take a step back in passes completed his way is because he'll probably be matched up against the best WR each week. That may lead to a few more targets his way, regardless if he's playing great coverage or not. The law of averages says he could have more deflections, but there could also be more completions on his side.

Agree, but with his confidence he may thrive with teams targeting him. Sink or swim and seems to be a swimmer. It's going to be a long 9 months.

Yup, he's definitely a swimmer. He does such a good job getting his head turned around and looks for the ball, thats probably why he's so successful. I'm glad Cole Luke got lots of reps this year, he should do well as the #2 guy.

Zack Martin almost never got beat either...for 4 years...and wasn't an All-American.

I like Russell a lot too (and think he was probably MVP of the D this year-- I think he was the most consistently good all season, at least), but accolades don't always follow good or great seasons.

Not trying to be a downer here, just pointing out that perhaps some of the fans here shouldn't get too excited about KR being the next _____, or "this," or "that."

if Z-Mart was 6'6 he would have been a two time All-American. I feel like just because he dosen't have that classic Jake Long, Eric Fisher NFL type build he was harshly judged when awards were handed out. I wouldnt have taken any Olinemen in the Nation instead of him

I get what you're saying. I think that matters more for pro scouting/draft grades though. College has handed out plenty of hardware to players that don't fit or meet the NFL prototype.

Exactly!

Good point; well taken. But have you seen ZMartin's draft grade?

First or second round. Some say he could be picked as high as #20. Number 2 OG, but he could still go as a right tackle. That and no AA mention at all goes to show what a beauty contest the AA teams have become. If you are from ND, you have two strikes before you start!

When Coleman lined up in front of Russell, the corner taunted, “Game’s over, big guy. You’re on the wrong side.”

I love the SWAG.

Martin is just a stud period. He doesn't get beat and has great technique. He's a perfect example of some getting too caught up in the physical statistics instead of looking at the results. Being 6'5" or 6'6" is nice, but it's not an advantage over a guy 6'4". I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up at LT regardless of his height, arm length, weight, etc..
