Don't see kmoose around... I guess we can make this the thread...

-Cooks called a really good game. Don't care what anyone says, he cannot control Bennett Jackson getting beat 1v1. And it seemed like they did a good job of protecting Jackson most of the game. All of Rutgers points basically came off crappy special teams + BJax. I think Rutgers had less than 200 yards of offense heading into their garbage time drive.

-Offense was... interesting? Tons and tons of yards, but tons and tons of mental miscues. Red zone offense is the #1A thing holding this team back. Special teams is #1B. We need a dedicated, experienced special teams coach.

-Russell is already very, very good. He may be a 1st round talent by the time he graduates.

-GAIII is completely irrelevant to this team's success.

-I have a lot of faith in this OL for next year, even without Martin. We have gone deep into inexperienced guys and they've all answered the bell. What was the extent of Hanratty's injury?

-Most annoying 2 TD victory ever? Maybe. Just a frustrating game throughout. We could've/should've waxed that team. Probably something like 42-10. They were truly awful.

Get TD's in the redzone and it's more than likely a laugher...

Agreed on the OL. We're at the point where we're just reloading (and upgrading talent in the process). And good that the young guys got as much experience in the back end of the season as they did. We'll be fine.
And as for the score, yeah. But it comes back to the red zone. If we score TDs instead of field goals, it's a blowout.

agree 100% lax

-bennett was on a deserted island and for having "track speed" he was toasted down the sidelines and luckily their qb play wasn't that great w/ passing

-folston didn't look the same as he did in reg season, i think that injury to mid section did something and he seemed to be very hesitant until the 4th quarter

-a lot of miscues, drops, and just out of sync
-lack luster pass rush
-special teams, seemed like we wanted to play 2 hand touch rather than tackle
-STUPID penalties which were costly
-terrible field conditions which cost us as well
still can't defend a mobile qb team
Positives
Brian Kelly now has 37 wins at Notre Dame, which ties Lou Holtz and Dan Devine for most ever by a Notre Dame coach in his first 4 seasons.

KR had a fantastic day
Redfield for his 1st start did well
pass protection again, great
glad to see TJ come back in
happy for kendall moore getting the int
i actually liked the play calling for the most part
and going to have to agree w. keunja....i thought palmer did a great job

just glad to get the win and move to 9-4 but this was a very dreadful and boring game

Although I agree BJ sucks, to be fair to him, playing on Brandon Coleman is no easy task. He runs probably a 4.5 and is 6 foot 6.

Tommy had very good protection and still could not find or hit his receivers. points would have been thru the roof if he could have made the throws.

We had 500 yards though.

Take away a couple of bad penalties that killed us in the red zone and we would have had 40.

I was going to say, I hope everyone realizes that the WR for Rutgers will play on Sundays in all likelihood.

I have mixed feelings about GAIII. I love seeing him break into the second level and turning on the jets. (When it happens) I hope he isn't done at ND but I am sure he will have a reduced role if he comes back for his senior season.

There were about the same number of bad throws by Tommy as there were drops by our WRs. No INTs from him. Difference is his bad throws didn't cost us any points, the drops did.

30000 feet point of view:

Same emotionless demeanor. Somehow this has got to end in the offseason. Great thing is we have a coaching overall and that makes it very possible.

Next year we have fun and win!

Yeah, Tommy's throws didn't cost us......but mostly because it was Rutgers.......his poor decisions didn't cost the team today as they have in the past!!

People point out his 61 TD's, but sometimes fail to mention the 37 INT's. Just sayin'

This is right. In many ways, it was a typical Tommy game: some great throws, some terribly inaccurate "who is he throwing to?" throws, and some really bad decision-passes he got away with. Inconsistent from play to play, with some bad luck (dropped TDs) and good luck (dropped/missed INTs). Fortunately, Kelly took advantage of the tiring Rutgers defense and rammed it down their throat when he could and it was enough. And Kelly seemed to call a lot more short outs and TE in the middle passes than Martin used to, which I think plays to Rees' strength. And they even threw a damn screen pass that was successful!

Overall, a beat up and sick (flu-plagued) team playing in a bowl they didn't want to play in, in a city they didn't want to be in, playing an opponent beneath them -- and they really outplayed their opponent thoroughly, as the yardage shows. As somebody above said, leave out the ST failures (ie, terrible coverage on KOs and fumbled punt) (that needs serious fixing) and the dumbass penalties (Jarron Jones/Tuitt/Koyack's), and you win by 24 at least. Can't say I am disappointed. 9-4 you can build on and finish off recruiting on.

Tommy had some good moments but I'm sure most know that if they played a team with DB's who can catch then Tommy probably had at last 3 turnovers today. He threw right to the Rutgers DB's on several occasions. He was lucky they can not catch.

I loved Chris Brown. He played the best I have ever seen him. The way I thought Daniels would play. TJ played ok but didn't look like his normal self. Still had a TD even on an off day. Niklas was as usual huge in the pass game. The D had some good moments but also some not so good moments. I will miss this senior class, though. They have been a big part of a lot of wins for ND.

Doubtful. If we played a team with DBs that were better, BK wouldn't have put as much on Tommy's shoulders.

He's got the wins, losses, and ties correct for both schools but I believe he's treated the ties incorrectly. Ties are considered half win/half loss and added to the W/L record accordingly than wins are divided by the total games played. I've run an Excel spreadsheet on the battle since the mid '90's.

UM has a 0.00001 point lead that disappears with loss to KSU.

I posted the numbers earlier here:

i'm happy with the win don't get me wrong, but it just seemed like half the team seemed very un-interested in the game. we were the more talented team out there for sure, but we seemed like in spots the less disciplined team and special teams are absolutely awful.

glad to see guys like collinsworth play relatively well in his last game and tommy was about as good as tommy could be. DD and TJ let him down a couple times and will fuller almost made a great catch that should have been made.

tarean folston has a chance to be one of the best backs to ever play at ND. added strength and experience and a good spring puts him as the clear cut leader in the clubhouse to be #1 RB next year.

whatever we pay Hiestand is not enough. 3 out of 5 starting OL spots occupied by guys who started at #2 or 3 on the depth chart at the beginning of the year.

and lastly i am nominating Zach Martin's profile be changed to "Notre Dame Man".....52 straight starts is my only argument and imo the only one needed.

here's to a good offseason and hopefully solid finish to the 2014 recruiting class.

and as always i have a blast talking and sometimes arguing with you guys....hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!

Go Irish!

So we would be better off to have say 31 TDs with 1 int? Turnovers suck don't get me wrong but come on that is impressive even if he had 50 picks.

I like his skinny ties and shirts that are a size too small.
