Or, you know, the biggest part of a person's body (the area between the knee and the neck). It is such a cop-out when these morons say "well, I can't hit a guy in the head with my helmet, so obviously I have to destroy their knees." No. Bullshit. Humans aren't just heads and knees. Find a different part of a guy's body to hit, or at least don't use your helmet as a weapon and tackle the guy the way football tackles were supposed to happen.
I somewhat disagree with you. I hate how Whitner acted after the hit but the RB trying to catch the ball ducked down, where was he supposed to hit him? Dive at his feet? I think if the WR/RB/TE (or whoever is catching the ball) ducks down like that then no penalty should be called. Now Whitner definitely deserved the 2nd penalty for the unsportsmanlike conduct personal foul for the taunting afterwards.

^this.
Also, it wasn't helmet to helmet. Whitner's shoulder hit the bottom of Roger's face mask.
That is absurd.
WTF is this closed before the game starts? Ugh.
This event will accept bets until 12-23-2013 at 07:30 PM
You want to volunteer to handle it or just run your mouth.
The closing time for bets is clearly stated at the top of each bet.
Chill your role, bro. I'm right.
A still frame doesn't prove anything. I saw the play. The crown of his helmet hit the RB's helmet. That it didn't stay stuck to it forever doesn't prove that he didn't hit it. And even if he didn't, what does it matter what part of his body hit him? The result of the play was an unnecessary and dangerous head shot. Why do we insist on differentiating between whether it was the helmet or shoulder?
You don't think the side of his helmet hit Jackson in the head? Really? The first contact between Whitner and Jackson is clearly the right side of Whitner's helmet hitting the right side of Jackson's facemask. And even if somehow you did believe that, you think that the totality of the hit is OK? I don't. If I was an Atlanta Falcon or a relative of Jackson, I would be waiting for Whitner in the tunnel after the game, probably with something really sharp.
Hit looked perfectly fine to me. I'd go as far to say it was a very good/impressive hit, he launched 240 pounds of muscle that is Steven Jackson
The point of defensive football isn't to "launch" people. It is to tackle the offensive player to the ground after allowing the least amount of yards possible.
When the person catching the ball is crouching like that, your options for hitting them are going for the chest (which in this case is their head with how they are crouch), going for the knees or diving at their feet. You can't dive at their feet as it isn't going to get the job done, so either he hits where he did or goes at the knees, which has it's own set of risks. What the Hell do you want him to do on this play?

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE DIVING AT ALL? I am really confused about this. You say that they either have to dive at their head or dive at their knees. Or you could make an actual football play and wrap the guy up around the midsection and tackle him, thereby accomplishing your job without trying to kill the guy or jeopardize his career.

Someone is in a grouchy mood tonight, sheesh.
It was an aggressive hit, but it's freaking grown ass man tackle football. He didn't lead with his helmet and hit a 1 foot target with his 1 foot wide shoulder pads. It was the only play he had if he wanted to complete the play. Sure, he could have wrapped up Jackson (Yes, I now realize it wasn't Jaquizz), but that's so uncommon in today's league. Lets it go.
I get that I am just the crazy "get off my lawn!!!" guy right now, but it is infinitely frustrating for me to see these ignorant assholes like Whitner (who is as ignorant of a human being as there is this side of James Harrison) trying to make drooling human shells out of each other. I watch footage of games from prior generations and I don't see all the "kill shots," even from guys like LT. I just don't think it is necessary. I am the last guy you will find defending Goodell and the NFL about 99% of things, but regardless of their motivation I think that trying to take that garbage out of the game is a good thing. I'd actually be a lot tougher about it.
Can we at least agree that Lindsey Vohn looks awesome in that UA gear? Cause DAYUMMMMM

I generally agree with you and I hate Whitner but there was nothing wrong with that hit. Also go back and watch Dick "Night Train" Lane, Ronnie Lott, Jack Tatum, Deacon Jones, Dick Butkus, and Steve Atwater. They hit like mother fucking trains. Jack Tatum was know as the "assassin" and said that "“I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault.” That is fucking nuts.
Yes, we can agree on that. Glad to see Tiger landed on his feet.
