I'm hearing his GPA wasn't good enough.

If that's the case then I would think others would have been suspended today, too.

I really hope this issue wasn't "known" before the game yesterday. Could result in NCAA violation.

The last minute of that game should be a NCAA violation.

Final grades are not due until Christmas Eve I am pretty sure so we could see.

So this year is absolutely over. We probably won't finish .500.

Any chance Biedscheid plays now?

Also, fire Brey. If he can't even keep his players eligible he doesn't have much going for him now. I know it's mostly the players fault but as a coach of less than 15 kids you gotta be accountable for their academics much more than a football coach.

This season was looking like a struggle already. Ouch this could get pretty ugly.

Should Kelly be responsible for Golson? No I don't agree with this.

Did you also call for Kelly's firing after what Golson did?

I already addressed that point. Brey only has responsibility over about 15 kids, not 85.

Other than player development, Mike Brey is not a good coach. He's not even a good person (cheated on his wife).

I've been calling for his firing for a long time so it's not like I'm overreacting on this particular issue.

People have to realize the academic service offices KILL themselves to do everything in their power to help student athletes succeed in the classroom. At some point the burden falls on the individual. This is one of those points. Not the fault of brey, not the fault of anyone but Grant.

This season just keeps getting worse:

1st Biedscheid redshirts the year, possibly transferring (per rumors)
Then ND loses to Indiana State
Then they lose to North Dakota F*CKING State
THEN they blow it against #3 Ohio State
Now Grant is no longer enrolled, and the rumors of more to come is just a cherry on top.

You think with all the BS that happened in football, the Basketball team would pick up some good luck. ND is owed some good luck BIG TIME next season. I'm talking, ND better get an 24+ wins and in the sweet sixteen, and football wise in the playoffs. Just flat out hating all these off-field issues. This is a school where this should NOT be a problem, but it seems like there's nothing but them this year.

I'm really passionate about this so I apologize ahead of time if I say something I'm going to regret later. I have close connections to the basketball program and know a lot of shit that isn't public.

Mike Brey is a bad person for reasons other than the cheating issue I already mentioned. He is not the ND guy everyone makes him out to be. He is a player's coach to an absolute fault in the sense that his players know they can get away with all kinds of shit. I don't want to get into details about specific players but many of our players in the last 7 years should have been kicked off the team for various reasons. It happened with Mcalarney and now Grant.

No tournament success whatsoever. Very mediocre recruiter overall. He would have been fired at any other ACC school years ago if the administration cared about anything other than selling seats. It's a fucking joke how incredibly mediocre he is.

I do understand what you are saying though. Yes 15 people he should know their academic standing better.

I am not a fan of anyone cheating on there other half. But that mistake doesn't him a bad person in my book. Yes it does make me lose respect for them.

The basketball team is just like the football team lose to crappy teams and win against good ones.

ah, this has been such an excellent year for ND, good to see it'll continue into next year for basketball at least.

Apparently Grant knew before the game that it would be his last.

I won't be too upset if it's an NCAA violation and costs Brey his job.

Here is what Golson said:

Dear Notre Dame Community,

I have been informed by the University of Notre Dame that due to my poor academic judgment that I have been suspended from the University for the 2013 Fall Term.

I take full responsibility for my poor choices and will do all that is asked of me to regain the trust of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Notre Dame community.

I chose to attend Notre Dame because of its mission to develop me both on and off the football field.

My parents and the community I grew up in have instilled values in me that have and will continue to allow me to be successful in the future. There have been many lessons learned as I worked to become the starting quarterback at Notre Dame and each was a result of Coach Kelly’s belief in me as an athlete and a person.

At this point, I understand how my integrity could be in question but I want to reassure my supporters that through this experience I will return a better student athlete as well as a better individual.

Lastly, I want to thank the University of Notre Dame for the opportunity already granted and also the opportunity going forth to regain my eligibility in the winter of 2014.

I have never thought Brey was that good of a coach.

The sport of basketball would be better off if Mike Brey was banned for life from coaching. Whatever happens is worth it if it gets Brey out of coaching.

Alright, so Brey gets fired. What kind of upstart coach are you going to try and get to a school that barely gives basketball a pass? They share a practice facility with club teams and have dwindling support. Up until this year they've defended the home court better than nearly every team in the country and succeeded with teams that don't have much talent. The early tourney exits are a concern and I'm not giving Brey a pass, but just curious who you think could come in and do a comparable job at a football focused school? I'm more inclined to wait and see how he can do with a roster full of 4/5 star players over the next couple of years before jumping on that bandwagon.

Brey's team's actually play bball, not 1 on 1 playground garbage. Basketball is better for having him as a coach. It's a shame ND fans get too big for their britches and pine for him to be gone. Given our institutional lack of support, we're no landing anyone better than him and we'd slide back into the craptacular bball seen before Brey got here.

I don't really understand the complaints about the lack of support for the basketball teams. The practice facility needs to be upgraded that's for sure. But I've seen people on here and on onefootdown.com say that the students never show up. While I was there, I never went to the shitty non-conference exhibition games at the beginning of the season. They're crappy games, and no student sections show up for those games except for the blueblood Bball schools (Duke, UK, NC, etc.) As soon as Big East play started, unless we were playing a cellar dweller like DePaul, the student section had plenty of people. Of course we're not going to sell out every game, there are way too many crappy games nobody wants to see at the beginning of the year. But for big games, the student section, and consequently the rest of the JACC, are always rocking.
