Reported on fox Sports radio that they are discussing playing the game at Fenway Park in 2015. Would be the first football game ever played there.

Kind of surprising. Considering the short porch, I wouldn't have thought that it would fit in Fenway.

Not so fast my friend!

In 1926, the first American Football League's Boston Bulldogs played at both Fenway and Braves Field; the Boston Shamrocks of the second AFL did the same in 1936 and 1937. The National Football League's Boston Redskins played at Fenway for four seasons, 1933 to 1936, after playing their inaugural season in 1932 at Braves Field as the Boston Braves. The Boston Yanks played there in the 1940s; and the American Football League's Boston Patriots called Fenway Park home from 1963 to 1968 after moving there from Nickerson Field. At various times in the past, Dartmouth College, Boston College and Boston University teams have also played football games at Fenway Park.

I don't like it. It's not big enough to fit a football field without having the end zone butt up to a wall. It's visually unpleasing and dangerous for the players. Go watch the game they tried to play in Wrigley. It was a disaster, and I believe Wrigley is bigger than Fenway.

It's 380+ to the bullpens in right. The short porch is in left where it's only 330 (maybe 310) to the corner. Plenty of room if going 3rd base line to right field bullpen.

I hope not. ND plays BC there in hockey this year which should be cool, but football does not seem sustainable there.

If they can fit a football field in there, I don't see why one game would be a problem. Fenway Park is, in my opinion, one of the coolest pieces of architecture in America. It would be awesome to play a football game there.

As long as player safety is ensured, I don't have a problem with it. That said, IDK how they can ensure that in all parts of the field or end zone. The fence is probably only a few feet away from some parts of the end zone.

I'm OK with it if everything fits better than it did at Wrigley. That was a bit of a disaster.

that game looked awesome though, it was a pity about the "everyone plays O in one direction" thing

Just make it a 50 yard field and turn around when you get to the 50. PROBLEM SOLVED

here sometimes we play on 90 yard fields because thats how long a Rugby pitch is. Its not that big a deal really. I have also played in games where field goals could only be attempted at one end of the field as the other end bordered onto some old bag's garden and there was no net behind the goal posts :D

Aren't soccer fields 100 yards long? If so, this pic illustrates what i'm talking about. Add ten yard end zones to both sides. How much room does that leave?

This is what Wrigley looked like. It was a nightmare, they ended up having to play the game in one direction. I believe they were slated to do 5 games there and cancelled the rest after how big of a debacle the first one was.

Big Ten, Northwestern, Illinois should be embarrassed by last-minute changes to game at Wrigley Field - ESPN Chicago

Look safe?

The dimensions of Wrigley Field:
Left field foul pole: 355 feet
Left center: 368 feet
Center field: 400 feet
Right center: 368 feet
Right field foul pole: 353 feet

The dimensions of Fenway Park:
Left field foul pole: 310 feet
Left center: 390 feet
Center field: 420 feet
Right center: 380 feet
Right field foul pole: 302 feet

Yeah… no thanks. This will turn out just as big as a disaster as Wrigley.

I understand your concerns but they're a non-issue. Fenway's bullpen walls are removable. Wrigley's weren't and they were made of brick. A padded wall is much safer than a brick wall, and still probably safer than a tuba. "Stuff" behind the endzone (usually human beings) is nothing new. It would be tight if they left the baseball dimensions, but without the brick walls of Wrigley, Fenway has much more flexibility.

I thought soccer fields were 115 yards.

Edit: FIFA says anywhere from 100-130 yards

This. The pic above is an MLS game with a 100 yard field. It also looks like they removed the bullpen and one side is right up to it.

Most MLS fields are 120 yards long by 65 yards wide. Even high school plays on a 120 yard long field(goals are in the back of the end zone). If that is a standard MLS field, then this could work.
