Yes, really interesting perspective on the whole Clarett narrative. I really feel bad for him now.

Didn't realize it was 2 hours long so I watched about 5 minutes (which painted OSU in a really poor light) and then DVR'ed a later showing. Looking forward to it.

I think it sucks so far. Everyone's fault but Maurice's...

When I played football at Washington and Jefferson my Freshman year of college, one of my coaches was a former OSU starting CB on the national championship team... He would always allude to really shady things that went down and everyone was involved

No offense, but I'm finding this hard to believe. The 4 CBs (2 deep) on the 2002 Championship team were Nate Salley, EJ Underwood, Chris Gamble, and Dustin Fox. I can't find any reference to any of these coaching at Washington and Jefferson. But maybe I am just not finding it?

I'm a Youngstown native, so I am definitely going to watch it. I DVRd it. I want to point out that Tressel is not from Youngstown, although, of course, he did coach there. We've got a lot to answer for, but a sleaze like Tressel ain't on us. Haven't we suffered enough?

Great story.

Possibly the funniest part of the documentary was when they discussed how the first time Clarrett starting applying his brain was in jail. Goes to show you the great educational system in place at tOSU.

Ohio State fans aren't loving me on r/cfb. Losing all of that precious, precious karma.

Funniest part to me was watching how absolutely robbed Miami got on that ridiculous, late PI call. Unreal. I forgot just how bad that was.

Some clown actually said this when I called out Jim Tressel on hiding NCAA violations:

If an athletic rule is broken in order to better a young man's life, I have a hard time getting too upset about it.

There are bigger things than football. If I'm a coach that cares for the success of my players and I see one of my players family living in a tough situation, hell yeah I'm going to do anything I can to help out. That's exactly what coaches like Tress and many other coaches do. He knew how big of a figure he was to these kids. He feels it is his responsibility to help these young men succeed in LIFE, not just football.

I have asked them to come up with the graduation rates under Jim Tressel. It should get interesting hahah

I don't understand how Clarett doesn't resent Tressel at the end. Tressel clearly only acts in his own self interest.

Best memory of that season was when Clarett fumbled twice against Northwestern, and then cried like a bitch on the sidelines on national tv.

Just finished watching it. I feel better now. Was originally under the impression Clarett was forced to be a selfish asshole that threw his life away by doing drugs and committing crimes, turns out he was actually a VICTIM!!!!!!!

Zimbalist brothers sure have a knack for Sports Documentary Directing. Not as good as their "The Two Escorbars" but I thought the last half hour of the film brought it home. Maurice live tweeting was also a nice added bonus. Really great to see him having a positive impact and trying to better by learning from his checkered past. Hopefully he stays on the straight and narrow.

I think this show was pretty much trash. Is it just me, or did Tressel come off as a an insincere, self-serving phony? I mean besides Clarett's lawyers, who were transparently on the meter. I think it's borderline dishonest journalism to involve the lawyers as though they are a fact witness; they're paid mouthpieces and they had the most prominent speaking role in the show, aside from Clarett. I also thought it was interesting that the AD, Geiger, didn't participate.

There are a lot of good people in Youngstown who dealt with a lot worse than Clarett did, and dealt with it a lot better.

My initial thoughts....

It's going to be interesting when the Lennay Kekua 30 for 30 gets done. Could go a lot of different ways...

That's because he's a piece of garbage.

Idk. I read an article on Tressel a couple weeks ago, documenting what he's doing at Akron, how he feels about OSU, coaching, the whole deal. He really doesn't seem like a bad guy to me.

There were NCAA violations, and I'm happy they happened to Ohio State, but did he cover up them getting paid? Did he cover up crimes? Did he cover up academic fraud? Was there a lack of institutional control? I'm just asking, because these are known as the most serious NCAA reg violations.

The main thing I took from the documentary was Geiger is a POS, Tressel said he cared about Clarett but likely cared more about his job (until that was also taken from him), and that I now feel a little sympathy for Clarett.

I'm not sure how that can go any way other than Manti being obsurdly naive but ultimately totally innocent.

Maurice spent a lot of time at the Northwestern Ohio Correctional Facility. A friend of mine worked with him there. Said that inside he really had something to offer.

As far as dirty programs. I was at OSU spending a night with a group of my buds. Good friends older brother played for the Bucks. I saw an envelope slide under the door containing about four hundred dollars.

But I have another friend who went to Whitmer HS and played for Michigan. He said the exact same thing happened there.

I stand corrected........ got a PM with the coach's name. And it checks out.

Sorry Irish8248, but there's been a LOT of tall claims on this board, in the last 6 months or so. I'm starting to get tired of people making outrageous claims about the information that they know, and how close their sources are to the situation. In this case, you at least have a credible story of where you got the info, so I'm inclined to believe that your words are truthful, and my research just fell short.

Isn't an 18 year old Maurice Clarret equally naive in thinking he could openly question the powers that be at Ohio State, the NCAA and NFL? That one interview he did about being "one and done" seemed to be the catalyst for the whole situation spinning out of control. Anyhow, I liked it and it's good to see that he got it together and is doing positive things.

I saw a documentary on TV suggesting mermaids existed... just saying, there is no telling how badly someone could spin that if they wanted... imagine Deadspin getting final cut

It ESPN and Manti was a Notre Dame man. They will find a way to spin it so it to make ND look like an evil empire and bash us. Of course the big ending will be us getting what we deserved in the end by getting beat by one of their precious SEC teams. Personally I dont give ESPN any of my time unless ND is playing on there or if the Broncos are playing Monday Night Football. Not holding it against anyone who does but that network seriously isnt worth my time. You guys here report the news better for me anyway!
