Is he really a second rounder right now? Last big board I looked at had him slotted around 10-15.

Agree, a lot of QBs taking draft spots this year. I think it is really simple- kind of? -top 20-take the money, below pick 20, take out insurance, drop weight and go for top 10 next year.

I don't necessarily see a lot of QB's taking up draft slots in the top 10, especially with guys like Hundley and Mariota potentially returning to school. Who else do you have outside of Bridgewater? Johnny Football, Carr? All I know is that there is not one or two defensive prospects in this draft that should be taken over Stephon Tuitt and I suspect come draft time that will be the consensus among most NFL teams should he declare early. Selfishly I would love to see him stay another year at ND, but let's be real, the kid is a beast and should be a high draft pick if decides to go early.

Based on need I could easily see Clowney, Barr, Nix, Mosley, and Jernigan drafted before Tuitt. I love Tuitt's game and he is a Beast but come on, those guys are also great talents.

I think this is a bigger factor than how many Defensive players there are in this draft.

Johnny Football
Teddy Bridgewater
Marcus Mariota
Aaron Murray
Derek Carr
Z Mettenberger
Tajh Boyd
AJ McCarron
Brett Hundley

Thats a ton of QBs that will be in this draft and they will take spots away for ST.

How many teams will be looking for a QB early in the 1st round though? I could see Kelly going after JF to lead his offense. Tampa Bay may take one QB off the board. Browns will probably yet again draft a QB, although the newer administration may not take one in the 1st round. Do the Texans go after a QB early? Maybe the Jaguars? I don't see a lot of teams picking QBs early this year. Plus, these teams listed have other pressing issues/positions they need to address besides QB. A few will certainly come off the board, but I don't think more than 2, maybe 3 QBs go first round this year. Too many other QB positions are either already set, or teams just drafted a guy in the last year.

Clowney and Barr definitely. Historically LB's like Mosely and NT's like Nix don't go as high in the draft. Again I think the value with Tuitt is he can play in either a 4-3 or a 3-4 at numerous positions and make an impact. I think Jernigan is a nice player, but pales in comparison to Tuitt whether that's comparing measurables or stats. He has 4.5 sacks on the year with 2.5 of those coming a couple weeks ago against Idaho.

I don't think all the factors everyone are discussing matter much.

You've been playing football your whole life with the dream that someday someone might pay you to play it.

You have a very short window physically of when someone will pay you to play it.

The minute someone is willing to pay you crazy amounts of money to play it, you do it. End of story.

Its definitely not that black and white. Historically offensive lineman don't get that drafted that high and yet last year 3 of the first 4 picks were OL. Dion Jordan wasn't very productive in college his last year, yet he was drafted much higher than Jarvis Jones. There so many examples. Need and best available both drastically alter the draft and to say that there is now way those guys get drafted over Tuitt is a little naive.

There is a huge difference with out D next year based on what he chooses. He could be the top, or close to the top, defensive player in CFB next season if he chooses to return and improves upon his sophomore year. Not just his ability, but his leadership on the line.

Historically offensive lineman (especially tackles) do get drafted high because its arguably the second most important position on offense behind QB and almost every team in the NFL has concerns along the offensive line. Dion Jordan was drafted on potential and workout numbers. Jarvis Jones was drafted lower because of injury concerns and lackluster workout numbers. I'm not saying there is "no way" the players you mentioned don't get drafted before Tuitt, but it would be a surprise considering his size, versatility, production, and the fact that NFL teams always covet quality defensive lineman.

23. Dallas Cowboys: Stephon Tuitt, DE/DT, Notre Dame: There's a real argument that can be made that no defensive tackle has played better than the Cowboys' Jason Hatcher. He's almost assuredly a Pro Bowler. But the problem for Dallas is that he's a free agent at the end of the season. If he happens to depart, defensive tackle becomes a priority for the Cowboys. Tuitt plays end in Notre Dame's 3-4 scheme but he projects inside in the NFL. He's a solid athlete for the position and is just quick enough to split through gaps.

I don't see him being a 1st round pick unless he is a monster at the combine

Even if he's projected as early 2nd round pick, that's a million freaking dollars. I'd let my wife go indecent proposal for that kind of money.

And after taxes, etc., it's much less than that.

The degree, however, cannot be taxed.

You are wrong. He has endless potential and most scouts already have him as a top 15 prospect.

Speed and agility drills will be crucial for him. If he gets healthy and flashes the speed he showed against Navy, he could be a top ten pick. If he struggles it wouldn't shock me if he dropped to the end of the first or early second. League loves speed.

Whether this means anything or not its interesting. Sampson at II has been doing some checking and apparently one of the top agents up for consideration from Stephon and his mother haven't heard from them in weeks. Sampson also said that look to Kelly's sunday press conference as it was around this time last year that Kelly announced that Zack Martin and Louis Nix were returning.

And he would be correct.

One week after the season might be quick, but I would think there's no real reason to dally on this decision, right? Unless he's waiting for that report the NFL will do for underclassmen on their potential draft position. Any idea when those come back?

IIRC, Nix said he got his evaluation back two days after announcing he was returning to ND last year.
