Let's not forget the Texas fan who had his balls cut off (literally) by OU fans.

Are you serious??? I never heard about that one. Geez.

I have plenty of friends & family who are Bama or Auburn fans (and a brother-in-law who's a Georgia alum). All but one of them are sane and reasonable. No bad sportsmanship, no arguing, no taunting or insulting... nothing. One friend (an Auburn grad) is pretty bad though. He screams for opposing players to get injured, thinks EVERY call against Auburn is bogus, rants nonstop about Bama, UGA, and LSU, and has been asked to leave more than one gameday party because of his over the top behavior. Even the other AU fans amongst our friends find him obnoxious about it and won't watch games with him any longer.

You don't remember Bishop??? You were once a real Longhorn man,... then your manhood was taken from you and your only option was to root for bama...

(I'd block it out too... it must have been a hell of a double whammy)

Actually they weren't "cut off", per se. They were squeezed out the sides of his ball sack during a fight in a bar. Not sure which is worse.

Were they as vile as the ND fans who sent death threats to Jim Sanson mother?

Sanson received death threats for missed kicks (3 in a 3 pt loss to USC) on his dorm phone and via his student e-mail. After he closed both accounts, the low life's called his home in AZ and made their death threats again when his mom answered the phone.

The Greenstein article has an interesting commentary on the student body's reaction to a dropped past costing ND a National Championship. Had that pass been dropped today, there would have been a number of bannings on IE with a resulting clamor from the dumbass's dumbass supporters screaming that the bannings were inappropriate and unfair.

Notre Dame: Where Have You Gone? Derrick Mayes, Ken MacAfee, Nick Eddy ... - Eric Hansen - Google Books

Not sure what you're getting at. I'm sure the threats/ insults Sansom got were similar to that of the Alabama kicker. But it's 2013, so everyone is an Internet tough guy and can blast this kid on Twitter all day long. Sansom dealt with this crap but not to this extent because of technology.

I brought it up to note how insane some sports fans are, especially in T town. If Saban leaves them for Texas, watch out...won't be pretty.

The $10M makes sense. I heard on the radio a few weeks back that Saban had lost a lot of money on some bad investments. This would be a way to recoup that money pretty quickly. As far as Saban saying he is too old to go any place else, I don't buy it. We're the same age and if I were offered a salary about 1 1/2 -2 1/2 times more than what I currently make, I'd be leaving. If he feels he's that old and tired, why is he still coaching? The man is a brilliant coach, but he's also a liar.
They're all liars including ours

If you believe that he would be completely open and honest if he was leaving (not saying that he will) then you were born yesterday, and I have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.
Shit I'd lie thru my fucking teeth to be with her.... Nice pic

Based on what I read from Texas boards tonight is that it's happening. The biggest insider on any forum is "Jesus Shuttlesworth" from InsideTexas and he's saying that it's going to happen and he is not the only one. I would say this might unfold pretty quickly after Saturday assuming Bama doesn't slide into the NCG.

We could all tweet Urban Meyer to ND, and that doesn't make it smoke. No one credible has said this is happening yet.

Define credible. If TP said we were getting Urban Meyer is that credible? Because that is essentially what is happening on Texas boards.

He's telling the truth. It's third parties. On Dan Patrick the other day BK described the process.

Agree, but too many major media outlets have said something about this for this to be speculation. Doesn't mean it will happen, but there could be talks behind the scenes.

This is exactly how these things go. The president of the school won't get involved in the process until the AD finds who he wants. The AD will hire a firm to contact the coaches they are interested in speaking to. That firm will then contact the coaches agent. The framework gets worked out before final talks between the two parties begins.

If (IF!!) the Saban reports are accurate Texas would have to deny it up and down until their last game is finished on Saturday in any event.

Correct. Timing is always a touchy area when the current coach is still in place.

His Extended Family At Notre Dame Helps Sanson Kick The Blues - Chicago Tribune

Notre Dame: Where Have You Gone? Derrick Mayes, Ken MacAfee, Nick Eddy ... - Eric Hansen - Google Books

I note this from the Tribune article on Sanson:

"One former player wrote a note to Sanson, telling him about a game against Iowa in 1953 when Notre Dame end Don Penza dropped a critical pass in a 14-14 tie. Because of the tie, the undefeated Irish ended the season ranked second.

"At the pep rally the following week, Penza got up to apologize. Before he could, he received a standing ovation.

" 'This has made me realize why I came here,' Sanson said. 'Notre Dame is a special place.' "

I remember reading in Paul Hornung's autobiography that this incident happened during Hornung's freshman year; he and a buddy on the team from Louisville were both bored with South Bend and were considering leaving ND and going back home to play for Bear Bryant at Kentucky. (Bryant had wanted Hornung very badly and Bryant had tried to bribe him to go there (I made up the bribe part, lol), and Hornung had wanted to play for Bear at Kentucky; he went to ND only because his mother, who was a strong Catholic, and who had raised him alone, loved Notre Dame and wanted him to go there.).

Anyway, Hornung writes that this incident happened in the old Field House where they used to hold pep rallies, with the student body jammed in, and Penza stands up and starts to apologize, but is overcome with tears for his failure, and the students go wild with cheers and applause, and the kid can't finish, breaks down, weeping. And Hornung says in his autobiography, words to the effect, "I knew at that moment, I would never leave Notre Dame."

How would this impact Bama's recruiting?

This would be the most fun aspect of it. It would essentially blow up. These recruits aren't committing to the school they committing to Coach Saban. Although it would probably steer Hand to Michigan, I would take the trade. Michigan is going to be a dumpster fire for awhile anyway.

I think it would be a mixed bag. Some will follow Saban to Austin. Some might stay if their position coach or recruiting coach stays. Some will flip to their second choice. Then a lot will depend on who their make HC and how quickly they do that.

I can see Jimmy Sexton telling Texas that Saban is still interested all the while telling UA that Saban needs a raise to stay. He isn't going anywhere. Happens all the time. Just look at UCLA in the past week. Les has done it two or three times in six years at LSU.

I don't disagree, but there comes a time when the administration will get tired of the shenanigans and say, "We've won a bunch of titles lately, but we don't won't to go thru this charade again and again". Thanks Nick, but we have a contract with you already.

Like the guy with the hot girlfriend that finally gets tired of putting up with the crap she gives him. Not saying Saban is a pain in the ass to the admin, but if his agent has talked to them several times since coming on-board it might make a difference.

How many times has he received a raise since coming to Bama?

IMHO, it doesn't matter how much of a raise Saban can get from Bama. Texas can offer a comp package that Bama simply can't match.

I still think either could easily happen... I think Saban and his family are over bama frankly... and Texas would be more pay and prob less stress... on the flip, he is already set at bama and he is getting up there in age...

The only way he leaves is for the money at this point. And not money for him but his kids kids. Unless Texas is willing to pay him in the $10 mil range, I can't see him packing up and leaving. If Sexton is wanting to get him a raise, Bama will ante up. If Texas wants to secure his family for generations to come, then it can get interesting. As far as how many raises he has had at Bama, I don't really know as it seems he gets a bump up every year.

Bringing a title to Texas would cement him as the greatest ever... at least in many minds... there is that.

Is there more pressure to stay on top at Bama or to re-build at Texas?

Stuff I have heard people talk about is that Bama fan base fanatacism (no offense TTT) is even more so than at Texas. That along with the challenge to do it at yet another school and permanently cement yourself as arguably the best there ever was makes me think him going is a possibility and his staying less of a certainty. Either way, his children will have $$$ for the next millenium. Also, would he prefer to live in AL or TX?

The pressure would be about equal IMO. Both fanbases are fanatical and both expect to win championships every year. Add in $10 mil a year and the pressure goes up quite a bit.

Saban is egotistical enough to maybe consider padding his legacy by taking Texas to the top but at his age and with his accomplishments already, is it really worth it? He has said starting over isn't in his future. But then again, he has said those things in the past. We will see I guess.
