Ususally by now, there are two or three guys who have separated themselves, but that doesn't seem to be the case this year. There are several who have a legitimate shot. Below are some examples off the top of my head.
Jameis Winston, QB, FSU - Having a great season, but off field issues could give voters pause
Johnny Manziel, QB, TAMU - I doubt many want to go on that ride again, and although he's had a good year, his losses could give voters an excuse not to vote for him
Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor - I suspect that he would have had to be perfect to win it, but RGIII did it with a few losses at Baylor, so what do I know.
Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon - Has had a very good year overall, but he's had some below average games lately (and some losses) and that will likely cost him.
AJ McCarron, QB, Alabama - Guy gets too little respect from a lot of people. I'm one of them and I don't want to see a game manager become the most outstanding player in college football
Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville - Had at least one bad game, and he had to be pretty close to perfect to win it, didn't he?
Braxton Miller, QB, Ohio State - Fun to watch, but had a slow start and missed some games early in the season.
Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson - Clemson is coming on late and he is one of the big reasons.
Ka'Deem Carey, RB, Arizona - Huge game this week but does he get enough publicity to win an award of this stature?
Mike Evans, WR, TAMU - I think he has been far more impressive than Manziel this year. In fact, a lot of the prayers his QB throws up are answered by Evans.
Andre Williams, RB, Boston College - 2000 yards with two games left? Pretty impressive, but Boston College didn't win enough games for him to get the stiffarm trophy did they?
Jeremy Gallon, WR, Michigan - He is clearly the best player on their offense, and has been extremely productive this year, but a weak Skunkbear team probably isn't going to be the vehicle to carry him to New York.
