I don't think all that mail is valuable without context. I've never heard of ND doing that for any recruit. Maybe they have, but don't think it was ever publicized. I bet it makes Elam feel very special and wanted.

That's because we've never had a formal "Recruiting Analyst" before. Meet JR Sandlin.

Elam’s pot of gold

In an effort to woo senior defensive tackle prospect Matt Elam, the Notre Dame staff loaded his mailbox on Wednesday.

The Irish sent Elam 270 letters to represent the area code of Elam’s home in Elizabethtown, Ky. Elam shared the news on Twitter on Wednesday night, but only counted 262 after adding them all up three different times. Perhaps a scorned postal worker found another use for the other eight letters.

“262 Letters Yes You Read Correctly 262 Letters From Notre Dame!! They Are Calling It My #PotofGold #WorldRecord #ND,” Elam wrote on Twitter.

Watch Bama counter with $270,000.

Luatua tweeted this week that he has narrowed it down to these two schools though. Don't know if he got confused with Elam somewhere along the way.

Let's just say we're in the mix and in a better position than many thought a couple of weeks ago.

Joshua Frazier the NT from AR that we recruited is committing today, CB looks like it will be Bama. Wondering if this would affect Bama's recruitment of matt?

Sure. They already have A'shawn Robinson who is a beast and apart from Frazier (if he commits) they have two other DTs commited. I think that would be huge for us and Kentucky.

I expect DL - Joshua Frazier to commit to #Bama tonight over #Arkansas @ 7 pm. Will be shocked if he does not.

I don't see this as changing anything. If he was going to pick Bama it's not for early PT. It would be because he views that as the best way to get to the NFL. There process so to speak. ND and Kentucky offer early playing time and ND academics.

If we aren't selling him on making the NFL through here, we aren't doing it right. I mean we have a pretty good NG going in the 1st round next year.

We have some recent success to point to with Nix and Tuitt but Bama clearly has a lot larger sample size to look at.

I agree that Bama pretty much has the biggest track record in the nation there, but we shouldn't avoid selling our success with Kappy, Nix, Tuitt and even Lynch (he's disappeared since transferring). That isn't a negative here.

We should be selling this, early playing time, much less position competition, better education, etc.

I think Jarron Jones just made a statement that the NT position isn't quite as open as previously believed.

I'll be cautiously optimistic, but IMO it's too early to say this.

JJ was on scout team two weeks ago, and he's never shown anything until tonight.

ND offers a path to the NFL as well.

But he did show something when asked to.

Yes i agree that we should tout that as much as possible. Just to be clear, I wasn't saying we aren't or shouldn't. My previous comments were about what Matt is thinking or looking at. From his point of view.
