Are we talking about college basketball local talent? Because then that would make sense. Indianapolis is hands down the best basketball talent area anywhere in the country

Care to elaborate?

Each and every year the Indy-area is loaded with D1 kids...loaded. In some years, a bunch of those kids are top 100 players nationally. Name another area that is consistently producing the number of top 100 players that Indiana does. I'm seriously asking, because I don't know and I'm too lazy to look it up.

(Talking about bball here...sorry to derail the thread...just curious on this topic)

Do i need to go on? Those are just a few who have come out of Indianapolis in the last 10 years to play in the association. Indianapolis is hands down the most basketball talent rich region in America

In terms of basketball talent, shooting from the hip here but the DC metro area (NoVA, DC, MD) and Chicago I believe produce tons of top talent. Not quite sure on LA, NYC, etc. but I think they do too.

Off top of my head.

All reside from the same City. Not taking anything away from Indy because I know they love there basketball. Heck I would even put DC with Indy.

Baltimore, D.C., Chicago, New York, L.A., Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, off the top of my head.

Sure some of those do simply because of population size, but if even if you add similar-sized cities, then cities like Louisville, Memphis, and take your pick from the states of North Carolina and Virginia are putting out a lot of talent. If you've followed b-ball recruiting much in the last 5 years, high school basketball has exploded in Texas and Florida. Granted those are states and not cities, but each of those states will have lots of guys in the top 25, 50, 100, or whatever list you'd like to use.

Look, b-ball in Indianapolis is good. My main objection was to this line:
Indianapolis is hands down the best basketball talent area anywhere in the country

That's not a true or accurate statement.

Isaiah Thomas, Nick Anderson and Antoine Walker come immediately to mind, too, if we're going back a ways. Really doubt that Indy produces more talent than Chicago, DC or NYC.

I'm almost willing to bet that if you put a list together with NBA players from this city or that city Indianapolis would be near if not at the top of the list.

That may be. Someone said it's "hands down" the best. That is clearly false.

I'm not going to derail Tranquill thread anymore, anyone wants to discuss it we can create a thread strictly for this topic

And that may be true.

But being "near the top of the list," by definition, doesn't make a place "hands down the best basketball talent anywhere in the country."

Great stuff here.

To be clear, I wasn't jumping in on the Indy "is hands down the best" statement. I'm just saying they're way up there in terms of producing D1 talent. I'm not even looking at NBA talent. I would completely agree that the DC-metro and Chicago areas are loaded every year as well.

Two problems I see with this list.

1.) IMO the Chicago team would beat the Indianapolis team by quite a large margin if this was a 5 on 5 battle. Chicago has all perennial all-stars on their team, while Indy team has a few all-stars as well as a few "good" players.

2.) IMO Chicago has more depth. They are only considering 5 players for each city? Why not just say that Wilmington, NC or Akron, OH produces the best players because MJ or Lebron could beat anyone in a 1 on 1 game?

Different topic but New England Prep schools have to have the best talent in the country for bball. Granted some of that talent is recruited from outside New England, but it still remarkable basketball. I rode the pine for 3 years at my school and literally was nowhere close to getting playing time. We weren't even that good for our league, and our worst starter would go D-2. Schools like New Hampton and Brewster literally send all 12 of their guys to D-1 schools.

In the Rivals Top 150 for 2012 year there is:
--#2 from Tilton in New Hampshire
--#5 from Notre Dame Prep in Mass
--#6 from South Kent in Connecticut
--#9 from St Marks in Mass
--#17 from Brewster in New Hampshire
--#30 from Brewster in New Hampshire
--#31 from Brewster in New Hmapshire
--#69 from Tilton in New Hampshire
--#71 from St Marks in Mass
--#97 (Zach Auguste!) from New Hampton in NH
--#103 from Bridgton in Maine
--#136 from Notre Dame Prep in Mass
--#146 from Notre Dame Prep in Mass

I have just become a big time basketball recruiting junkie (unlike football which I have been for some time) first of all, 247 is apparently is terrible while scout is awesome. Also, everybody recruits in Indianapolis. Kentucky has at least two prospects, so does OSU, Louisville and IU do as well. Per capita, easily the most basketball talent. Chicago has a ton of talent as well. Though again more people. DC does very well. NYC is like the Texas of college basketball. A three star there is better than a good amount of 4 stars from other places. Chicago is really better now than it has been. NYC is going down a bit. Indianapolis is probably the most consistent overall.

And as far as North East basketball. As dirty as all get out, but the reason it is so good is because those kids have usually graduated. Semaj Christon and Tu Holloway both went to prep schools.

The chosen one, I like how you get it STL. Myles Davis also played up there but Notre Dame academy screwed up his paperwork. Jaylen Reynolds did as well, he was the sixth man on Semaj's Brewster team

Jalen is my boy. Me and my friend had a legit 5 min conversation with Raftery before the Tennessee game about Semaj and Jalen. Xavier BBall is on the up and up, Top 10 recruiting class this year and after Semaj is a lottery pick in the draft even more recruits will take notice.
