Egyptian pyramids wouldn't be a tribute to slavery as they weren't built by slaves. They were built by skilled contractors.

In all honesty though, Goodfellas, GFII, Forrest Gump, Shawshank, GF I

Prob. my all time top five...

okay, now I'll step back from the thread highjack cliff... I promise.

Those are some damn good flicks ...

As for Goodfellas and its portrait of Italians, Henry and Jimmy are half-Irish, so ... meh. It's about gangsters, not Italians.

Good ole, GFII...

Easily one of my top three movies ever.... maybe my all-time fav.

Fredo goes from sleeping with two cocktail waitresses to sleeping with fish... and in between he stares at Superman...

True story: My last serious girlfriend before I met my wife was Mexican, she was over for dinner one night and GFII was on TBS or something like that… during one of those scenes that aren’t very flattering to the humanity of the Italian people and my dad says out of nowhere, with my GF sitting right next to him… “Fvking Italians man… they’re nothing but Mediterranean Mexicans”

….

So, did she like olive oil?

On a more serious note:

... during one of those scenes that aren’t very flattering to the humanity of the Italian people ...

Which scenes were flattering to the humanity of the Italian people?

Now we bring Jews into this?? The thread is officially a tire fire...

I wasn't talking about Jews lol

The quote I copied said the characters were Half Irish and Half Italian, so it wasn't about Italians.

The movie quote is when Henry talks about the "good half" of his lineage.

NO.

The movie quote is from when Henry is asked about being 'half Jewish,' which he is not, by his future mother in law who is a hard core Jew... he responds with...

"Only the Good Half."

I know my Goodfellas dawg...

No I get you... I jumped on the Jewish thing because I took "someone will get it" as you looking for someone to place the quote.

Carl Sagan was a marijuana smoker and thus his thoughts on life are polluted with the devil's weed and can't be taken seriously. :smilewink

Far out, man ... billions and billions of buds!!!

The range of motion in my aging neck ain't what it used to be, so I tilted my monitor to the right. I still didn't see no "little guy." I guess my head just wasn't in the right place.

Nonetheless, grazing in the grass is a gas – baby I can dig it ...

Words are flying out like endless rain into a paper cup, they slither wildly as they slip away across the universe ...

The Italian side of my family never made a big deal about Columbus Day. Pope John 23rd and Frank Sinatra were bigger cultural heroes for us.

This...

In general to add.... in 500 years, people may look back and see us as a monstrous, war mongering, earth destroying race.

Didn't see this thread.

Some facts that could be brushed up on;

It wasn't Kellogg and Corn Flakes, as much as it was Dr. Graham, inventor of Graham Crackers, who single handedly popularized modern American circumcision. An act that was extremely unpopular among European immigrants at the time, (as the mark of the Jew, no less). He wrote among his supporters (many women) that circumcision would surely take the fun out of masturbation and wanton lusty sex!

Yes, we shouldn't judge anyone who lived five-hundred years ago, let alone 2000 years ago by our standards, right? Or judge us by their standards, either! Okay.

Don't argue about it, Leif Erickson was here before Columbus. His father Red almost made it. They followed the Irish monasteries, first founded by Brendan's monks. Early stories of Brendan's adventures excited Leif. The Navigatio, a later account of Brendan's travels was used by Christopher Columbus for his navigation blueprint!

Now they are finding Gaelic Runic writings all over the eastern seaboard, as far inland as West Virginia and Georgia.

I have nothing to add to this conversation except to say you guys are way smarter than I am. I must have been too busy chasing tail in history classes... sheesh. Good reads here though.
