Yeah, this has been really frustrating me. Niklas is a serviceable pass-catching TE but I suspect that Koyack will be better able to make the tough catches. If we're gonna pass to the TE, I'd like to see Koyack get more targets. I guess he's got to shore up his blocking if he wants to get more reps though.

Niklas has also been a monster blocking this year, so it makes sense to use him as one in a lot of situations. Comparing him to the best catching TE in ND history and one of the better ones in all of college football in some time on being a receiver is a bit unfair.

it's getting to the point where we i'm wondering why we haven't used our two TE sets as more of a passing threat formation. perhaps Koyack isn't near as good as we/I thought, but at this point i'm not sure we'll get a chance to find out.

did koyack redshirt?

No. Way too much potential.

Koyack's blocking has been too inconsistent for us to base out of 12 personnel. And Welch is either (1) still not 100%; or (2) even less consistent than Koyack, because he's been MIA all season.

Regardless, it's pretty clear at this point that our only hope for offensive competence is power running/ play-action passing out of 2-TE sets. Time for Mr. Potential to live up to his recruiting hype.

Oh, I don't think anyone is. The comparison is to Koyack. No question that Niklas is the better blocker, but he's had some drops. I could be wrong about this, but I have the impression that Koyack and Welch have better hands.

Uh... earth to Bluto, your mind is not a book... I can't read it...Plus it would have to be made of pages with some way to type your thoughts...

Well why don't you go open the Cakalacky center for kids who can't read good?

Tyler looks very confident about playing early and i think he will have a lot of competition if he finally ends here (it would be four four-stars in two classes). BTW, a lot of people are saying he is a better and more natural fit at the OLB position. I think he is all irish.

Hood just tweeted congrats at Luatua.

Anyone know if maybe he got invited to an All-Star game or something else?

You may not agree with what he did (neither do I), but yes he is a fan.

i know every fan base has its share of idiots, and thats just a fact. but in the same way he can act as he pleases i can identify with who i please, and i dont identify with idiots who think dumb acts like these help our program, when it reality they accomplish absolutely nothing.

That would be perfect timing for some recruiting momentum in the second half of the season.

NG is probably a bigger concern than ILB. Such a strange absence of recruits lining up for these spots.

If we miss on the elite (Elam and Holley) we'll still come away with some bodies. We have Dickerson and there will be other names that pop up like Kammy Delp. IMO, we bring in at least two NT/DT type players with one being Dickerson.

????

You can always switch to a 4-3 and play a myriad of guys we have very effectively at DT. Or play a 3-4 without a true nose and be just fine. There are lots of easy ways to compensate for a lack of a Louis Nix style dominant nose guard.

You can't conjure up a MLB/ILB out of thin air.
