So my old RCA is about on it's last leg, ready to upgrade. I'll be playing video games on it as well as watching tv. I'm willing to spend a bit but don't really wanna break the bank, and am looking in 32" range. Just wondering if anyone had suggestions and what not.

I'll just say that unless you are planning on sitting within a few feet of it consistently, it's unlikely that you'll need 1080p at 32 inches.

I'd go with a 720p, I'll let everyone else make suggestions on the brands.

Yeah was probably gonna go 720p. I more or less looking for suggestions to see if someone has had luck with a lesser name brand to save a bit of cash...

best picture quality is either gunna be samsung or sony

Probably should have elaborated more in the OP, looking to see if someone has had luck with a "lesser name" brand.

I have a 42 inch SANYO in my bedroom that I've been really happy with. Great picture.

Samsung is the best hands down. Just so we're clear. They are the industry leaders.

I have a 32" Emerson that I love, got it for $200
I have the same one I think. Unreal picture for the money. I have it in my basement bar along with 2 others and a projector. Picture is just as good as any of the others.

1 Samsung 51 inch
1 emerson 32 inch
1 polaroid 42 inch
1 Panasonic 142 inch
I also have some vizio 32 inch in other rooms of my house. They are my least favorite of all my tvs. Hints the reason they are not in my sports watching area.

Bump (three years later). We're getting ready to move into a new house next month and we'll need a new TV to put in the finished basement. That'll be our movie / video game / play room space. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy the Vizio 50" 1080p, which is insanely cheap at $300 including shipping from BJs? I have the same 37" Vizio that I got seven years ago at Notre Dame so I might end up replacing the living room TV as well.

Save your money for the exterminator, in case there are any squirrels in the attic?

It was carpenter bees and bats, not squirrels. Keep up.
Still not sure I got rid of all of my carpenter bees......

As far as TV, we have the Vizio 60 (or 65 I don't remember). We've never had anyou issue for the 5 years we've owned it. IIRC we only paid 700 which at the time was very reasonable for the size.

1080p is going the way of the dinosaurs. Last black friday I got a 55" 4k smart TV for <$700. So if 50" is the size you're looking for id guess this black friday you could find a 4k TV in the 500s. It's a little pricier than your BJs TV but I think you will thank yourself later once 4k becomes the standard resolution on all your media (cable, netflix, video games)

If you don't really care about getting a 4k TV I would still recommend waiting until black friday because people will be trying to unload all the leftover 1080p TVs they've got left. You will either be able to get a similar 55" TV cheaper than BJs has right now, or you can get something much larger for the same amount.

Another question... I know what Smart TVs do, but, in practice, are they any more convenient than just popping a Roku stick in the back?

I like our smart TV a lot... it links with our I pads (actually just figured this out like a week ago, had the TV for a couple years now) and does all the other stuff you'd want from a smart TV... never used Roku tho.

the price you have is really nice imo... I'd move on it. We have a 50 in our bedroom and paid more than twice that (years ago but still).
