Or so Tommy can turn the ball over 5 time again? I mean, honestly, Rees is responsible for 5 TO in 2 games against Michigan, and not coincidentally, we lost both those games.

In his 20 (?) games as a starter, how many turnovers does he have in those five losses? 15? It's gotten to the point that I do not expect anything other than heartbreak with him at the controls because he almost always turns the ball over at least 2x per game against similarly talented teams resulting in losses, and it has gotten REALLY infuriating over the last few years.

Of course we have not had a great defensive team for more than 1 year at a time over the last 25, since 1988-89, so it goes back to turnovers and playing smart football (aka as Tommy Rees' supposed strong suits).

So yeah, this year is gonna one long nightmare, PARTICULARLY if the D cannot actually stop anyone.

Apparently everyone is watching the Bama tape and going to be going back to it to help them exploit our defense.

I am not the biggest Tommy fan and i am sure every knows that but we were down 10-0 and Tommy made some nice throws to get us back in the game. The Play calling in the Kelly era has been questioned a lot. Even with Tommy in we should be scoring more then 28 points.

I think we need no less than 6 more threads to discuss Rees.

Tommy played well in my opinion. His deep ball has arrived in my opinion.

What is Tommy's W/L when starting? 15-6?
Didn't he help lead us to the NC game last year?

Never mind tho, he ****ing sucks and he should play better D too

I guess nobody noticed the fact that I said the Defense has not been good in back to back season in 25 years??

Yeah, Tommy plays well for MOST of the game but when it is crunch time, he is a turnover machine. It is sad but true.

He is a GOOD QB, not a great one, and when it comes to making something out of nothing, which is something that Gardner did a LOT last night, he cannot do it (re: INTs last night were a result of him trying to force the ball).

Do I think he is HORRIBLE? No. Do I think that he will keep us close in a game? Yes.

Do I have faith in him in the 4th against a tough team? No, not really.

The game where he came in and spelled Golson were nice and all but really, when a team has time to prepare for Tommy for an entire game, they know they do not have to factor in the run at all.

IF the Irish OL can block more consistently, then maybe things will be more palatable, offensively.

But the defense REALLY needs to step up, that much I think anyone can agree on.

I thought Rees did good.

Tj played his tail off.

Amir sure does play hard for a smaller back.

Our O Line is strong

Our D line had a good game...not great

Really disappointed in Farley and Russell...they were fundamentally weak. I saw bad technique especially on tackling.

He gets the blame for the INT right before half. It did change the tide. We know his limitations, and anyone who expected more was wishing it.

What can be done now? Nothing... unless you feel Hendrix is a better option.

I used to think we had the most intelligent fans in football. We may actually have the worst fans. I don't want to know people whose brains work this way. You lose a game (on the road to a good team because a couple calls/plays went against you), and now everybody and everything sucks. Seems like a fun perspective, but I'll leave it to you.

Jeez. I think we'll be all right. We won't play Michigan or a QB that good again (until Stanford). We've got some winnable games coming up and hopefully we can get on track. 9 or 10 wins is attainable this year.

The sky is not falling. We'll be all right. Despite the hand wringing in Irish Nation Brian Kelly is a good coach. We could even run the table and have an outside shot at going to the MNC. Tommy is who he is but man he's not the future of the program.

Exactly. The first INT was bad and I get very nervous when he's flushed out of the pocket. The second was just a forced throw late, and a freak pick. But he made a lot of good throws last night. His arm strength is noticeably improved from '11 and he's reading defenses better than ever. He wasn't why we lost. And it's not like we have better options on the bench anyway. So what are you going to do?
We probably should have run more, but we were playing from behind most of the night. I understand why that didn't happen.

There are probably about five QB's in college football right now (maybe less) that can make the type of pre-snap reads that Tommy can make. Couple more big throws last night and it really is a different ball game. Not to mention drops from GAIII all night.

We lost Everett. It sucks, but we are lucky to have this guy for now.

This bothers me alot. I don't understand why they were using Amir in a power running situation and GAIII in receiving situations. Cam really needs an expanded role and the freshmen need to see the field. I won't hide my dislike for GAIII in the backfield.

Exactly. How many other programs could lose their starting QB and pull a senior off the bench with 18 career starts (at the beginning of the season anyway) and a plethora of experience coming in in high leverage situations as a "closer"? Tommy Rees is not perfect and he will never be a legend but man I'm glad to have him.

Diaco will figure this **** out.

The only teams I'm worried about now are ASU and Stanford.

I can handle a 9-3 year with the possibility of a BCS berth.

We're fine. If you think you're pissed about this, imagine how the staff and players feel. They're gonna be loaded for bear next week.

If we stumble even a little bit against Purdue, then you can sound the red alert. Till then, stow that ****.

And you wonder why people think ND fans are among the most arrogant in the nation? Because some people throw fans that you do not agree with under the bus.

I PURPOSELY did NOT say that he was THE reason that we lost the game.

I ALSO noted that the team has not had consistent team defense in back to back season since the days of Rice and Alvarez/Holtz. To me that was the most glaring thing, bar none and THE major reason that we lost the game.

But you cannot discount the fact that Tommy's turnover problems still persist and crop up at the most inopportune times. That second INT was freakish, but really, why did he have to force the ball on first and goal from the 6 yard line? That kind of stuff is what I would expect from EG last season because it was his first season as a starter, not from a Senior who has been in the system for 3 years.

I do not honestly think that ND has a better option on the bench, but yeah, this season is likely going to be highly frustrating, even during the wins.

I get what you are saying, and I don't discount it. But, to be fair, ND needed two TDs in 90 seconds, just to send the game to overtime. Rees was being aggressive, trying to score as quickly as possible........... just like Kelly has been coaching the kids.

OK, but what are your expectations? Perfect quarterback play? I get that there only 12 games every year, but this thing where people go completely off the reservation every time we lose a game is ridiculous. If we get blown out by Purdue next week I could understand some of what has been going on here since the UM game ended, but you guys act like the possibility that we might lose another game for the rest of your lives never crossed your mind. If we played better, we'd have won. We didn't. Get 'em next week.

'The world is falling' fans are annoying, sure. But this 'holier than everyone' view of yourself is getting really, really old.

I'm definitely not "holier" than anyone. I'm pretty certain of that. You're mad because I called you out on making up random facts the other day. Don't be passive aggressive.
